If you mean a new motorcycle with a base price below $10,000, the available U.S. manufacturer listings support a shortlist of candidates—not ten verified, fully equipped touring bikes. The best fit depends on whether you want a factory-equipped tourer or are willing to add luggage and wind protection. For “What are the best new motorcycles for touring on a budget?”, start by separating those two categories and comparing the real purchase price, not just MSRP.

What counts as a budget touring motorcycle?

For this guide, “budget” means a base MSRP of about $10,000 or less. That is a useful shopping threshold, not a promise that a motorcycle will cost less than $10,000 at purchase. Manufacturer prices exclude some combination of destination, options, taxes, title, license and dealer fees. Kawasaki explicitly notes that its base MSRPs exclude destination and other charges and that dealers set actual retail prices. Honda’s 2026 NT1100 DCT illustrates the difference: its listed $11,999 base MSRP plus $775 destination produces a $12,774 total before other costs. Get a local, itemized quote before deciding whether a bike fits your budget. Kawasaki’s U.S. lineup and Honda’s NT1100 listing.

A motorcycle can be touring-capable without being a factory tourer. A dual-sport, adventure bike or standard may work for a trip, but it may need model-specific luggage, a windscreen or other equipment. Those purchases affect both cost and practicality, and compatibility must be checked for the exact year and trim.

New motorcycles to consider under or near $10,000

The prices below are manufacturer-published U.S. MSRPs or starting MSRPs from lineups accessed in 2026. They are not transaction prices. The list is a set of candidates, not a ranking of the ten cheapest motorcycles or a claim that every model is a complete touring package.

Model Published price What the source establishes Touring caveat
Suzuki Boulevard C50T Special $9,779 base MSRP Suzuki’s Touring page describes its touring line as having a low-slung saddle, two-up seating, a protective windshield and spacious saddlebags. The cited description is Suzuki’s manufacturer characterization, not an independent comfort assessment. Confirm the exact trim’s equipment and local price.
Kawasaki Versys-X 300 $5,799 starting MSRP Kawasaki places it in its Adventure/Touring lineup. The lineup listing does not establish standard touring luggage or other specific equipment.
Kawasaki KLR650 $6,999 starting MSRP Kawasaki lists it under dual-sport. Consider it an adventure/dual-sport platform that may support touring, not a fully equipped road tourer on the evidence cited here.
Yamaha XMAX $6,399 MSRP Yamaha lists it in its U.S. road lineup. The cited lineup does not establish highway or long-distance touring suitability.
Yamaha MT-07 $8,599 MSRP Yamaha categorizes it as Hyper Naked. It is an affordable base motorcycle rather than a factory touring model; verify luggage and wind-protection options for the exact model year.
Kawasaki Versys 650 $10,399 starting MSRP Kawasaki places it in Adventure/Touring. It is above the guide’s approximate $10,000 base-price threshold before fees.
Yamaha Ténéré 700 $10,999 MSRP for the 2026 U.S. lineup Yamaha places it in Touring. It is above a strict $10,000 base-price cap. The 2026 World Raid is $12,999 and the Tracer 9 is $12,599 in the same lineup, so neither meets that cap either.
Honda NT1100 DCT $11,999 base MSRP; $775 destination; $12,774 total shown Honda lists a 5.4-gallon tank, sport fairing and adjustable windscreen; the screen adjusts through 6.5 inches. This is an equipped sport-tourer, but its listed price is outside a strict $10,000 cap and excludes additional purchase costs.

Which candidates are closest to a ready-to-tour setup?

Suzuki Boulevard C50T Special: the clearest factory-equipped budget candidate

At a listed $9,779 base MSRP, the C50T Special is the strongest match here for a rider who wants a cruiser-style motorcycle with touring equipment included rather than starting with a bare platform. Suzuki describes its touring models as offering a protective windshield, saddlebags and seating for two. The standard Boulevard C50T is listed at $10,359 base MSRP, $580 more than the Special; verify which trim a dealer is quoting and what its specific equipment includes. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent findings about passenger comfort or protection on a particular ride.

Honda NT1100 DCT: a more complete sport-tourer, at a higher price

The NT1100 DCT is the most explicitly equipped sport-tourer in these listings, with a fairing, adjustable windscreen and 5.4-gallon tank. Honda says the screen has 6.5 inches of adjustment for wind protection or airflow. Its price, however, is well beyond the $10,000 threshold: Honda lists $11,999 base MSRP plus $775 destination, or $12,774 before taxes and other charges. Neither the tank capacity nor the listed equipment alone establishes real-world range or comfort.

Can you tour on a small or mid-sized motorcycle?

These listings support considering smaller and mid-sized platforms, but they do not provide the evidence needed to declare every one suitable for every touring route. The Versys-X 300 is categorized by Kawasaki as Adventure/Touring, while the KLR650 is listed as dual-sport. Yamaha’s XMAX and MT-07 are listed in its road lineup, with the MT-07 specifically categorized as Hyper Naked. Those classifications and prices are useful starting points; they do not establish loaded highway performance, comfort over long days, passenger suitability or fuel range.

Decide based on the roads you plan to ride, how much luggage and passenger capacity you need, and whether the exact motorcycle can accept suitable wind protection and model-specific luggage. A motorcycle tank bag can be one storage option, but confirm year- and model-specific fitment rather than assuming a generic bag will attach securely. Honda’s accessory brochure describes a model-adapted tank bag with a dedicated attachment and rain cover, but it is European-market material and does not establish U.S. pricing or fitment: Honda’s accessory information.

How to compare the real cost of a touring setup

  1. Set your ceiling. Decide whether your limit is base MSRP, the dealer’s pre-tax selling price or the complete out-the-door amount.
  2. Ask for an itemized dealer quote. Have the dealer identify destination, setup or other dealer charges, taxes, title and registration. Manufacturer MSRP is not a final transaction price.
  3. List what is included on the exact trim. Confirm whether the motorcycle comes with luggage, a windscreen and passenger provisions, rather than relying on a family-level description or category label.
  4. Price the missing equipment. If the bike needs luggage or wind protection, verify accessory compatibility and get the cost before comparing it with a factory-equipped model.
  5. Assess the trip, not just the spec sheet. Compare riding position, intended road surface, passenger needs and storage. The cited manufacturer listings do not provide comparable independent range, fuel economy, reliability, maintenance-cost or passenger-comfort data, so they cannot support a total-cost or endurance ranking.

What is the cheapest new touring motorcycle?

Among the candidates listed here, Kawasaki’s Versys-X 300 has the lowest cited starting MSRP at $5,799, and Kawasaki categorizes it under Adventure/Touring. That does not establish that it is the cheapest complete touring setup: the cited listing does not confirm standard luggage or provide a comparable out-the-door price. If “touring motorcycle” means factory-listed touring equipment, Suzuki’s Boulevard C50T Special is the clearest under-$10,000 candidate in this selection at $9,779 base MSRP, based on Suzuki’s description of the line’s windshield and saddlebags. A dealer quote and exact-trim equipment check are still essential.
