How CarCody is paid for

CarCody is free to read. It is paid for by the makers, dealers and advertisers who buy places on it, and by adverts on its stories.

Places on a chart

A maker or dealer can buy a place on a chart, #1 to #5. A paid place sits at the place that was bought and the others move down one. These places are not marked one by one, so read the top of any chart knowing that one of its places may be paid for. Whatever a paid place shows is its own: a car's official EPA figures, a tool's real CarCody score, or nothing where it has none on that chart.

What is shown by name

Some things are sold under their own name and show it: a "Sponsored alternative" shown beside another car or tool, and a chart sponsor named at the top of a chart.

Editorial reviews

A maker can pay for an editorial review of its car or product. CarCody's editors write it, and the verdict is theirs. Reviews are not marked one by one, so read any CarCody review knowing its maker may have paid for it.

Listings

Getting a product onto a CarCody chart is paid. A paid listing links to the maker's own site with a sponsored listing. Claiming a page that already exists, to keep it up to date yourself, is free. What a maker changes on their own page is marked “Updated by the maker”; a maker's own words never change CarCody's figures, the prices it read or its scores.

Links that pay us

Some links that leave CarCody, in its directory and its stories, are affiliate links: if you buy after following one, CarCody may be paid a commission. It costs you nothing extra.
