There is no single current replacement price for every GM electric vehicle. The best current estimate in the available pricing information is for a Chevrolet Bolt: a full out-of-warranty replacement may cost about $16,000–$20,000 or more at a dealership, according to a secondary estimate published in 2026. That is not a GM quote and should not be applied to other GM models. Your actual cost depends on the vehicle’s VIN, diagnosis, repair scope, parts, labor, and warranty or recall coverage.
What a GM EV battery replacement may cost
For a Chevrolet Bolt, Find My Electric estimated on July 29, 2026, that a full battery replacement outside warranty could cost about $16,000–$20,000 or more at a dealership. The estimate includes the kinds of costs that can affect the final bill—battery pack, parts, labor, taxes, diagnostics, and repair scope—but it is a secondary estimate, not an official GM price or guaranteed quote. For context, a 2023 U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce report put the cost consumers could face for an EV battery replacement not covered by warranty at $5,000–$20,000. That is a broad EV-wide range, not a GM- or Bolt-specific installed price. It should not be used to price a particular vehicle.
Neither figure establishes a current installed cost for every GM EV. A Bolt estimate should not be carried over to the Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Blazer EV or Equinox EV, GMC HUMMER EV or Sierra EV, or Chevrolet Silverado EV. Model year, battery configuration, diagnosis, region, parts availability, labor, and coverage can change the job and its price.

Why a battery part price is not the replacement bill
A high-voltage pack’s catalog or historical list price does not include all the work and costs required to replace it. The final estimate may also include diagnosis, removal and installation labor, programming or calibration, related parts or coolant work, taxes, and potentially a core charge. Ask the shop to identify exactly which of these apply to your vehicle.
For example, a 2017 article quoted a Chevrolet communications specialist giving a then-current Bolt EV high-voltage pack list price of $15,734.29 before labor. That is historical component pricing, not a present-day installed cost. The 2017 autoevolution article preserves the original context.

A GM OEM Parts catalog listing accessed in 2026 shows $1,656.15 CAD for a high-voltage battery part listed for a 2025 Cadillac LYRIQ. This is a Canadian catalog entry for a part—not a complete installed replacement quote—and is not comparable to a U.S. full-pack estimate. The LYRIQ parts listing identifies the catalog item.
Do not confuse the high-voltage traction battery with the 12-volt battery. The Bolt’s low-voltage AGM battery is a separate component; replacing it does not replace the traction pack.

Check warranty and recall coverage before paying for a repair
Ask a GM dealer to check your vehicle’s VIN for current warranty coverage, open recalls, and any prior recall remedy. Model year alone—or a seller’s assurance—does not establish that a particular vehicle qualifies for coverage. Warranty or recall coverage may substantially change what you owe, so get the VIN-specific answer before authorizing paid work.
A 2017 Chevrolet statement quoted by autoevolution said, “Bolt EV customers shouldn’t expect to pay parts costs for warrantied repairs.” That historical statement is not current warranty guidance and does not determine eligibility for any individual car. Have the dealer confirm the terms that apply to your VIN.

Get an itemized estimate for the actual repair
Ask the dealer or qualified EV repair shop for a written estimate that identifies whether it proposes a complete pack replacement, module-level repair, or another remedy. Request separate amounts for parts, labor, diagnosis and programming, related work such as coolant service if applicable, taxes, and any core charge. Also ask whether the replacement component is new or remanufactured, what parts and workmanship warranties apply, and whether the part is available.
Calibration can be part of the job on some newer GM EVs. GM TechLink stated in September 2024 that updated Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) calibrations are required before high-voltage battery replacement on 2022–2025 HUMMER EVs; 2023–2025 BrightDrop and LYRIQ models; and 2024–2025 Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and Sierra EV models. Ask whether the required calibration and programming are included in the estimate. GM TechLink’s service information gives the model-year context.

Compare quotes on the same basis
If you are considering more than one repair route, compare the written quotes by scope rather than looking only at the headline price. A lower figure may cover a different repair or component than a full pack replacement.
- Confirm whether each quote is for a full pack, a module-level repair, or another repair.
- Compare new and remanufactured components only when both are actually offered for your vehicle.
- Separate parts, labor, diagnosis, programming, and related work so you can see what each quote includes.
- Check whether warranty or recall coverage pays any portion of the work.
- Review parts and workmanship warranty terms, shop qualifications, location, and parts availability.
Independent Bolt service is another route to investigate, but availability, model-year coverage, current pricing, installation terms, and warranty vary. Greentec Auto lists Bolt EV replacement services; contact the provider for a vehicle-specific quote and confirm the terms directly.
