The proposal is a compact, three-door hatchback with a modern design that nods to the original. Its final production form, factory, specifications and sales schedule have not been established.
When could the new Yugo return?
The project’s stated target is to present a prototype at Expo 2027 in Belgrade. Its official project page, published on 14 February 2025, says the prototype will be officially unveiled there: Mission Next Yugo. That is the team’s announced milestone, not independent confirmation that it will happen on schedule or that customers will be able to buy the car then.

Later coverage describes the milestone in slightly different terms. RTS reported in December 2025 that the team was aiming for a drivable prototype at the expo, while ANSA reported in June 2026 that a production-car reveal was planned. These reports do not establish a retail launch date. RTS also said the team was looking for a factory; the sources available do not identify a selected manufacturer or a customer-delivery schedule.

The proposal is a compact, three-door hatchback for Europe’s B segment: small-car territory, with a modern interpretation of the original Yugo’s practical, accessible character. ANSA reported that a 1:4-scale model showing the then-described definitive look was presented at the Munich Car Design Event in 2026. A scale model is evidence of a design direction, not a finished production car.

RTS described the intended exterior and interior as contemporary but relatively traditional and modest compared with Chinese models. The production body and cabin have not been verified, so details may change before any car is built.
Early design details are concepts, not confirmed features
A February 2025 BIZ Portal report, citing designer Darko Marčeta, described an earlier clay model with three doors, integrated front lighting and indicators, and the possibility of a small rear-side window. It also mentioned a possible illuminated “Yugo” name at the rear. These details belong to an early concept and should not be treated as a final equipment list.

What is known about the powertrain and price?
The public descriptions have changed as the project has developed. In February 2025, BIZ Portal reported that petrol power was planned and that an electric version had not been ruled out. In June 2026, Auto Zeitung described a proposed series-hybrid or range-extender setup: an electric motor would drive the car, with a petrol engine acting as a generator to extend its range.
Auto Zeitung also reported a project target of 2.2 L/100 km and an anticipated starting price near €12,000. Neither figure is a confirmed production specification: the consumption number is not an independently verified or homologated result, and the price is not a published retail price list. The report does not establish which market, trim or final configuration those figures would apply to.

What the comeback announcement does—and does not—establish
The project has progressed from early design work to a publicly presented scale model, and its team has named Expo 2027 as the target for a prototype presentation. That provides a concrete development milestone, but not proof of series production. Until a production partner, final specifications and sales timetable are announced, the Yugo’s appearance, powertrain, efficiency, price and availability remain subject to change.
At the model’s presentation in Munich, RTS quoted designer Darko Marčeta: “Dobili smo pozitivne komentare i to je razlog da možemo da nastavimo dalje sa projektom.” Translation: “We received positive comments, and that is the reason we can continue with the project.”
