But the available evidence does not establish $10,000 as a typical current price: treat it as a price to verify against a specific truck, not a market-wide value.
Was there a factory V8 Chevrolet Colorado?
Yes. Chevrolet offered the first-generation Colorado with a Vortec 5.3L V8. The 2009 Chevrolet specification sheet rates it at 300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, and period material lists the engine for extended- and crew-cab models. MotorTrend’s 2009 first look describes the V8’s arrival, while Chevrolet’s 2009 Colorado specification sheet provides the ratings.
In MotorTrend’s test, the engine was paired with a Hydra-Matic 4L60 four-speed automatic. That describes the tested 2009 truck; confirm the equipment of any individual vehicle rather than assuming all years and configurations are identical.
What made the V8 Colorado a street truck?
The ZQ8 sport suspension was the road-focused distinction. MotorTrend said it sat one inch lower than the regular Z85 suspension. In the magazine’s instrumented test, a 2009 two-wheel-drive crew cab with the V8 weighed 4,073 pounds as equipped and accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. Those figures belong to that specific test configuration; they should not be applied automatically to a four-wheel-drive model, another cab style, or every model year. Can the V8 Colorado tow 6,000 pounds?
Period material cited a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds for the 2009 Colorado. That is a maximum, not a rating for every truck. Before towing, check the particular vehicle’s configuration and ratings, along with the applicable equipment and load limits. MotorTrend’s contemporary report gives the period figure.
Is a $10,000 V8 Colorado a bargain?
It might be a promising asking price for a particular truck, but the evidence here does not establish $10,000 as a representative current value. A 2026 secondary article used the bargain framing and its indexed text mentioned listings as low as $8,000 and a Bring a Trailer sale at $14,777; the article could not be independently checked, so those figures are not a reliable market sample. Separately, an auction result reported a 2009 V8/ZQ8 Colorado sold for $17,850 on April 19, 2026. One sale does not define the market, but it illustrates why a flat $10,000 valuation can mislead. The secondary article and the reported auction result are individual leads, not a representative price study.

Price depends on the exact truck. Compare actual asking prices and completed sales for vehicles with similar mileage, condition, drivetrain, cab, and suspension equipment. Rust, accident history, and maintenance records also matter. No representative current price range is established by the evidence cited here.

Do not compare all V8 Colorados as if they were interchangeable. A pre-purchase inspection and vehicle-specific records can reveal more than the V8 badge or a bargain headline.

- Configuration: identify two-wheel or four-wheel drive, extended or crew cab, and whether the truck has ZQ8 or other suspension equipment.
