Tesla’s Hurry profile tells Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to drive faster and change lanes more frequently than calmer profiles, when road conditions and the system allow. It is an assertive driving-style setting—not a fixed speed increase, a promise of a quicker arrival, or an autonomous-driving mode. Tesla says drivers must actively supervise FSD and be ready to take over at all times (Tesla FSD guidance).
What Hurry looks like in a particular clip depends on the Tesla, its software, the road, traffic and the driver’s settings. No vehicle, software version or footage conditions are specified here, so the behavior below describes what the profile is intended to do—not a claim about a particular video or a guarantee of what every Tesla will do.

What Hurry mode changes
Hurry is a speed and driving-style profile within Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Tesla’s owner manual describes it as driving faster and making more frequent lane changes. In practice, that can mean the car is more inclined to move around slower traffic or select a faster-moving lane. It does not mean the car will always pass, use a particular lane, exceed a speed limit, or make a maneuver at a predictable time. The result depends on traffic, route, road layout and what the vehicle’s software judges appropriate.
Hurry is not a separate system like a performance or track mode. It changes the style FSD is asked to use; it does not remove the system’s limitations or the driver’s responsibility. Tesla’s descriptions of the available profiles are in its owner manual.

How to read a Hurry-mode demonstration
In footage, the useful things to watch are whether the Tesla moves out from behind slower traffic, how often it changes lanes, how it selects gaps, and whether it returns to a slower lane after passing. Also note what happens near an exit, merge or turn, and whether the driver intervenes. Those are observations about one drive, not proof of a universal lane preference, safety record or time saving.
A meaningful comparison should identify the car and model year, hardware generation if known, FSD and vehicle software versions, location, road type, weather and traffic. It should also say whether a destination was set, whether the clip is edited, and whether the driver took over. Without those details, treat a clip as an illustration of possible behavior rather than a reliable prediction for your Tesla. A clear freeway run, for example, cannot establish how the same profile will behave on a crowded city street or in another software release.

How Hurry compares with Tesla’s other profiles

These are behavior preferences, not fixed levels of capability or “skill.” They do not override traffic laws, safety constraints, navigation decisions or system limits. Tesla’s current manual lists Mad Max as more aggressive than Hurry; it has not universally replaced Hurry. A software-update archive describes a newer five-profile system, but availability can vary by vehicle and software branch (release-note context).

- Engage Full Self-Driving (Supervised).
- While FSD is active, tap Self-Driving on the touchscreen and select or adjust the speed profile. The manual also gives Controls > Self-Driving as a route to the setting.
- On supported vehicles, use the right steering-wheel or yoke scroll wheel to change the profile.
The selected profile is retained for the next use and associated with the driver profile, according to the manual. Check the labels on your own vehicle, since Tesla can change menus with over-the-air updates. If Hurry is absent, confirm FSD is available and active, check Controls > Software for installed software and vehicle information, and install any pending update. Availability depends on vehicle eligibility, hardware, software and market. Restarting the touchscreen may address a display problem, but cannot add a profile that the vehicle’s software does not offer.
Why your Tesla may behave differently
Hurry’s behavior can vary with FSD version and vehicle hardware, as well as regional availability and regulatory restrictions. Speed-limit data, traffic, lane markings, road geometry, route guidance, weather, visibility and the driver profile can all affect what the car does. An approaching exit or turn may also take priority over an attempt to keep moving quickly. Updates can change speed strategy, lane selection or driver-monitoring behavior, so a clip from another car or software build may not match yours.

Supervision is still required
Despite the product name, FSD (Supervised) does not make the car autonomous. Tesla requires the driver to pay attention and be prepared to act immediately. Do not use a phone, look away from the road or treat Hurry as permission to stop monitoring the vehicle. Tesla says attentiveness warnings can escalate and the feature can be suspended if warnings are ignored; consult the owner manual’s supervision and disengagement guidance.

Faster travel leaves less time to correct a poor decision, and frequent passing can be uncomfortable or unsuitable in dense traffic. A smooth-looking sequence in a video is not evidence of system reliability or statistical safety. Hurry does not guarantee a shorter trip, a specific speed, a preferred lane, or a timely return after passing.

A cautious way to try it
- Start on a familiar, clearly marked road in good weather and light traffic.
- Keep your attention on the road and be ready to steer or brake immediately.
- Avoid a first test in construction, heavy rain, complex merges, or unfamiliar city streets.
- Watch for late lane changes, unnecessary overtakes, speed-limit misreads, missed exits and failure to return from a passing lane.
- If the car behaves unexpectedly, take over and disengage FSD using the vehicle’s normal controls. Move somewhere safe if needed; do not re-engage just to reproduce a hazardous maneuver.
Tesla recommends learning how to disengage FSD in a safe environment before relying on it in traffic. If you want to document an unexpected event, note the software version, location and conditions along with any relevant dashcam footage, then use Tesla’s available support or feedback channels.
When Hurry may—or may not—fit
Hurry may suit a driver who wants less hesitation on a well-marked highway in moderate traffic and is comfortable supervising more frequent lane changes. Chill, Standard or Sloth may be a better fit in heavy traffic, poor visibility, unfamiliar areas, construction zones, confusing lane layouts, or when passengers prefer a calmer ride. If you do not want automated lane changes, manual driving or a less assertive driver-assistance option may be preferable.
