The choices include compact crossovers, standard-AWD Subarus and Mazdas, and larger V6-powered three-row SUVs. The catch is trim selection: the same model may also be sold as a turbocharged, hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
If you want a 2025 SUV without a turbocharger or supercharger, you still have solid choices in the U.S. market. The best options range from compact crossovers such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and Subaru Crosstrek to three-row, V6-powered SUVs such as the Honda Pilot and Nissan Pathfinder.
The important detail is that several of these vehicles are also sold with turbocharged or hybrid powertrains. The list below identifies the specific naturally aspirated configuration to look for. In this article, “naturally aspirated” means the gasoline engine draws in air without forced induction; it does not necessarily mean the vehicle is gasoline-only.

Engine output, equipment, towing ratings and fuel economy can vary by trim, drivetrain and fuel specification. Always confirm the window sticker and the vehicle’s official specifications before buying.

1. 2025 Toyota RAV4
The conventional gas 2025 Toyota RAV4 uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 203 horsepower. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be ordered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Toyota offered the gas powertrain in LE, XLE, XLE Premium and Limited grades.
This makes the gas RAV4 a straightforward choice for buyers who want a compact SUV with a traditional gasoline engine and a conventional automatic transmission. The 2025 gas lineup does not include the Adventure or TRD Off-Road grades, so those looking for the most rugged-looking RAV4 configurations need to check powertrain and model-year details carefully.
What to choose: Look for a 2025 RAV4 LE, XLE, XLE Premium or Limited with the conventional 2.5-liter engine. Do not assume that every 2025 RAV4 is gas-only: the RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid also use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, but their electric motors make them electrified powertrains rather than conventional gas SUVs. 2. 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross
The gas-powered 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder producing 169 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission pairs with the engine, but Toyota’s CVT uses a physical first gear before switching to its continuously variable operation. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available.

Toyota lists manufacturer-estimated fuel economy as high as 32 mpg combined for the front-drive gas model. That figure is configuration-specific, so an AWD model or a different trim may have a different rating.
The Corolla Cross is one of the more sensible picks here if your priorities are modest size, easy maneuverability and fuel economy rather than strong acceleration or heavy towing. The naturally aspirated engine is also easy to identify: choose a gas model rather than the separate Corolla Cross Hybrid, whose 2.0-liter engine works with electric motors.
What to choose: Select the gas L, LE or XLE. Toyota’s 2025 Corolla Cross specifications distinguish the gas and hybrid powertrains.
3. 2025 Mazda CX-5
The non-turbo 2025 Mazda CX-5 is identified by the 2.5 S designation. These versions use Mazda’s naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder, producing up to 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard across the U.S. CX-5 range.
The CX-5 is a good fit for someone who wants a naturally aspirated compact SUV but does not want to give up standard AWD. Its six-speed automatic also offers a different driving character from the CVTs used by several competitors on this list.

Trim warning: The 2025 CX-5 Carbon Turbo is not naturally aspirated. It uses Mazda’s 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. When shopping listings, search for a 2.5 S model and verify that the window sticker does not identify it as a Turbo. 4. 2025 Mazda CX-50
The naturally aspirated 2025 Mazda CX-50 uses the same basic formula as the non-turbo CX-5: a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder, six-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. Output is 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque.
The CX-50’s naturally aspirated version is labeled 2.5 S. Mazda also sells CX-50 2.5 Turbo models, which use a twin-scroll turbocharger and produce up to 256 horsepower on premium fuel. The higher output of the Turbo versions is precisely why buyers who dislike turbo engines need to pay attention to the trim name rather than simply the model name.
What to choose: Select a 2.5 S trim. Avoid 2.5 Turbo versions if your requirement is a non-turbo gasoline engine. Mazda’s 2025 CX-50 pricing and packaging information and the CX-50 model page identify the available engine families.
5. 2025 Subaru Crosstrek
Every 2025 Subaru Crosstrek uses a naturally aspirated Subaru Boxer engine. The Base and Premium trims use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 152 horsepower. The Sport, Limited and Wilderness trims use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 182 horsepower.
Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard. That gives the Crosstrek a useful combination of compact dimensions and all-weather traction without requiring a turbocharged engine. The trade-off is that the 152-hp versions are the least powerful choices in this group, while the 182-hp engine is the better match for buyers who regularly carry passengers or travel in hilly areas.
The Crosstrek Wilderness deserves special attention because it is sometimes incorrectly described as turbocharged. For 2025, it remains naturally aspirated. Subaru lists up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity for the Wilderness, compared with 1,500 pounds for other Crosstrek versions. That is a major trim-specific difference, so use the Wilderness’s rating rather than applying it to the entire lineup.
What to choose: Choose Sport, Limited or Wilderness if you want the 182-hp engine. Choose Wilderness if its extra ground-clearance and equipment package match your needs and you need its higher tow rating. Subaru’s 2025 Crosstrek gas specifications confirm the engine choices.
6. 2025 Subaru Forester
Gas-powered 2025 Subaru Forester trims use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder producing 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. All Foresters have standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a CVT.

The Forester is therefore one of the clearest choices for someone who wants a turbo-free SUV with standard AWD, a practical cabin and a conventional gasoline powertrain. Its engine is not a turbocharged substitute hidden behind a different trim name: the gas Forester’s 2.5-liter engine is naturally aspirated across the gas lineup.
However, the 2025 Forester also introduced hybrid versions. The hybrid uses a separate gas-electric system with electric assistance. It should be described as a hybrid naturally aspirated powertrain, not as a conventional gas SUV. If you want the simplest match for this list, specify a gas Forester when requesting prices or comparing inventory. Subaru’s 2025 Forester specifications separate the gas and hybrid versions.

7. 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander
The gasoline 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter MIVEC DOHC inline-four producing 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It uses a CVT and is available with two-wheel drive or Mitsubishi’s S-AWC all-wheel-drive system.
Its biggest practical distinction is seating: the gasoline Outlander can accommodate up to seven people, giving it an advantage over most compact SUVs on this list. Mitsubishi also lists a manufacturer-rated towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.
Powertrain warning: The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is a different vehicle configuration. It combines a gasoline engine with electric motors and should not be confused with the naturally aspirated conventional gasoline Outlander. If you want the non-turbo, non-hybrid version, verify that the listing says gasoline and does not identify the vehicle as an Outlander Plug-in Hybrid. Mitsubishi’s 2025 Outlander technical specifications provide the engine and towing details.
8. 2025 Nissan Pathfinder
The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Standard versions produce 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. Nissan lists 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft for versions equipped with the relevant premium-fuel specification.

The Pathfinder is a larger three-row SUV than the compact models above, and its V6 gives it a more appropriate power reserve for carrying a full cabin or towing.
The off-road-oriented Rock Creek version does not change the basic answer: it remains V6-powered and naturally aspirated. It is not a turbocharged model. Buyers should still check the exact equipment and fuel specification because Nissan’s published output figures vary with the applicable premium-fuel setup.
What to choose: Any 2025 Pathfinder with the 3.5-liter V6 meets the non-turbo requirement. Nissan’s 2025 Pathfinder brochure contains the engine, drivetrain and output specifications.

9. 2025 Honda Pilot
The 2025 Honda Pilot uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 producing 285 horsepower across the lineup. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda advertises up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity when the Pilot is properly equipped.
As a three-row SUV, the Pilot is one of the more substantial naturally aspirated choices still available in the U.S. It makes more sense than a compact crossover if you regularly carry several adults, need three-row seating or plan to tow a suitably equipped trailer.
Unlike some models here, the Pilot’s 2025 lineup does not require you to hunt for a non-turbo trim: the V6 is used across the range. Drivetrain and equipment still matter for towing, so do not assume that every Pilot has the maximum rating. Confirm the vehicle’s tow package, drivetrain and manufacturer rating before matching it to a trailer. Honda’s Pilot specifications information lists the V6 and towing capability.
10. 2025 Honda Passport
The 2025 Honda Passport uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 producing 280 horsepower. Every 2025 Passport trim has Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system, so AWD is not an option you need to add or identify through a particular trim.
The lineup consists of EX-L, TrailSport and Black Edition trims. TrailSport adds an off-road-tuned suspension and all-terrain tires, making it the most purpose-built choice for buyers who want a naturally aspirated SUV for rougher trails rather than only paved-road driving.
Honda lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds for the Passport TrailSport. As with any towing figure, verify the exact vehicle’s equipment and rating. The Passport is a two-row SUV, so it is a better fit than the Pilot if you want substantial cargo space and V6 power but do not need a third row. A naturally aspirated engine may appeal if you prefer a more linear relationship between accelerator input and engine response, want to avoid turbo-specific components, or simply dislike the feel and sound of turbocharged engines. Larger-displacement V6 models also remain available for buyers who want substantial towing and passenger-carrying capability without forced induction.
There are trade-offs. A naturally aspirated engine generally needs more displacement or more engine speed to make the same low-rpm torque as a turbocharged engine. That can mean slower acceleration in a smaller engine, more downshifting on grades, or lower fuel economy when compared with a similarly powerful turbocharged alternative. A naturally aspirated engine is not automatically more reliable, cheaper to maintain or more efficient; those outcomes depend on the complete vehicle, its transmission, service schedule and use.
Hybrid versions complicate the terminology. A hybrid can have a naturally aspirated gasoline engine, but electric motors contribute propulsion. If your goal is to avoid a turbocharger, a hybrid may qualify. If your goal is a simple gasoline drivetrain without electric motors, choose the conventional gas version instead.

How to avoid buying the wrong powertrain
- Start with the engine name, not only the SUV name. “CX-5,” “CX-50,” “RAV4” and “Forester” each cover more than one powertrain or equipment configuration.
- Check the trim designation. Mazda shoppers should look for 2.5 S rather than Carbon Turbo or 2.5 Turbo. Crosstrek shoppers can choose Wilderness without worrying that it is turbocharged for 2025.
- Separate gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid listings. The RAV4 Hybrid, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Forester Hybrid and Outlander Plug-in Hybrid use electrified systems. They should not be treated as conventional gas SUVs.
- Read the window sticker. Confirm the displacement, cylinder count and whether the engine description includes “turbo,” “turbocharged” or “supercharged.”
- Verify the model year and market. This list covers U.S.-market 2025 vehicles. Specifications in another country, or in a later model year, may be different.
- Match towing claims to the exact trim. The Crosstrek Wilderness, Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda Pilot and Honda Passport have different ratings depending on configuration or equipment. Use the manufacturer’s rating for the vehicle you are actually buying.
Which one should you buy?
- Best compact all-rounder with a conventional automatic: Toyota RAV4 gas.
- Best small option for fuel economy: Toyota Corolla Cross gas, with up to 32 mpg combined for the manufacturer-estimated FWD configuration.
- Best for standard AWD with a conventional automatic: Mazda CX-5 2.5 S.
- Best for standard AWD and a more outdoors-oriented package: Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, provided its 182-hp engine and 3,500-lb tow rating meet your needs.
- Best for a turbo-free AWD family crossover: Subaru Forester gas.
- Best for seven-passenger seating in a smaller package: Mitsubishi Outlander gasoline.
- Best for three-row V6 power: Honda Pilot or Nissan Pathfinder.
- Best for two-row V6 power with standard AWD: Honda Passport.
The right choice ultimately depends on whether “no turbo” is your only requirement. If you also want three rows, 5,000-pound towing, standard AWD, a conventional automatic transmission or low fuel consumption, the shortlist changes considerably. Use the trim and powertrain checks above before relying on a dealer listing or generic model description.
Common 2025 turbocharger misconceptions
Is the 2025 Toyota RAV4 hybrid-only?
No. Toyota continued to offer conventional gas RAV4 models with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine making 203 horsepower. The RAV4 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid are additional electrified choices.
Are all 2025 Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 models turbocharged?
No. Both models have naturally aspirated 2.5-liter versions. For the CX-5, choose a 2.5 S model instead of Carbon Turbo. For the CX-50, choose a 2.5 S model instead of a 2.5 Turbo.
Does the 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness have a turbo?
No. The 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness uses Subaru’s naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder. It is rated at 182 horsepower and has the lineup’s higher 3,500-pound towing rating.
