10 Full-Size Sedans With the Roomiest Interiors

The roomiest sedans do not have one universal winner. The BMW 7 Series and 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class lead the rear-seat discussion, the Genesis G90 has the strongest published passenger-volume figure, the Lucid Air suits tall drivers, and electric liftbacks often carry bulky cargo more effectively than conventional trunks.

The 10 Full-Size Sedans With the Roomiest Interiors are led by the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class for verified current rear legroom at 43.8 inches, while the BMW 7 Series reports 44.4 inches in older official launch material. The Genesis G90 has the strongest published passenger-volume figure at 109.2 cubic feet, and the Lucid Air has the most front legroom at 45.4 inches.

“Roomiest” is not one measurement. Rear legroom favors the S-Class and 7 Series, total published passenger volume favors the G90, front legroom favors the Lucid Air, and cargo flexibility favors electric liftbacks such as the EQS and Model S. The Toyota Crown is included as a clearly labeled midsize comparator, not as a full-size sedan.

Key takeaways

  • The BMW 7 Series reports 44.4 inches of second-row legroom, but the figure comes from BMW’s 2015 launch material; the current 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has 43.8 inches on its official specification page.
  • The 2024 Genesis G90 has the group’s strongest published passenger-volume figure at 109.2 cubic feet, although passenger volume and total interior volume are not always measured or labeled identically by manufacturers.
  • The Lucid Air Pure offers 45.4 inches of front legroom, making it the strongest documented choice for tall drivers in this comparison.
  • The Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan lists up to 63 cubic feet of cargo capacity, while the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air use liftback, frunk, or combined-cargo layouts to carry bulky gear more flexibly than a conventional trunk.
  • The 2026 Dodge Charger four-door lists 103.1 cubic feet of total interior volume and 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seatbacks, an unusually practical combination for a performance-oriented sedan.
  • The Toyota Crown is roomy, but Toyota classifies the Crown as a midsize sedan rather than a full-size sedan.

What does roomiest mean for a sedan?

Roomiest can mean the most rear-seat legroom, the most space for a tall driver, the greatest passenger volume, the widest shoulder room, or the most useful cargo capacity. Those measures identify different winners, so this is a multi-axis comparison rather than a falsely precise overall ranking.

Manufacturer measurements also require caution. Genesis reports passenger volume for the G90, while Dodge reports total interior volume for the Charger; those labels should not be treated as perfectly interchangeable. Cargo figures can describe a conventional trunk, a liftback’s maximum space, a frunk-and-trunk combination, or cargo with the rear seats folded.

Measurements are manufacturer-published figures and may vary by trim, roof configuration, seat design, and market. “Not located” means that the cited research did not provide a verified figure; it does not mean the vehicle has no such measurement.

Which full-size sedan has the most rear legroom?

The BMW 7 Series has the highest raw rear-legroom figure in this group at 44.4 inches, but BMW’s number comes from official U.S. launch material dated June 2015. Among the clearly identified 2026 specification pages, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class provides the strongest documented current figure at 43.8 inches.

The S-Class is therefore the safer answer for a shopper comparing current model-year specifications, while the 7 Series remains a compelling rear-seat stretch-out candidate if its published figure is confirmed for the exact model year, trim, and market being purchased. The 2026 S 500 4MATIC also lists 59.0 inches of rear shoulder room and 41.4 inches of front legroom, supporting its use as a chauffeur-oriented sedan.

Which sedan has the most room for a tall driver?

The Lucid Air has the most documented front legroom at 45.4 inches. Lucid lists that measurement for the 2025 Air Pure technical specification, while its comparison page gives the Air a 36.6-to-37.6-inch rear-legroom range depending on version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Lucid’s unusually long front-seat measurement makes the Air especially attractive to tall drivers, even though the rear seat is not a leader. The Dodge Charger lists 42.6 inches of first-row legroom, the Tesla Model S lists 42.4 inches, and the Genesis G90 lists 42.3 inches. Front-legroom numbers still cannot replace a test drive: steering-wheel reach, seat-cushion length, pedal placement, roofline, and the driver’s preferred backrest angle affect real comfort.

Which sedan has the most overall interior space?

The Genesis G90 makes the strongest published overall-cabin case because Genesis reports 109.2 cubic feet of passenger volume on its 2024 specification sheet. Genesis also lists a 125.2-inch wheelbase and 207.7-inch overall length for the G90’s current model page, dimensions consistent with its full-size flagship positioning.

The Dodge Charger is a close-looking but not directly equivalent comparison: Dodge lists 103.1 cubic feet of total interior volume and calls the four-door Charger best-in-class for passenger volume in its official buyer-guide material. Because Dodge’s headline figure is labeled total interior volume rather than the G90’s passenger volume, the two numbers should not be read as a laboratory ranking.

The Lexus LS lists approximately 99.4 cubic feet of passenger volume with the moonroof configuration, but the available official specification is from 2019. The Lucid Air Pure lists 100.7 cubic feet of passenger volume, placing it among the roomier electric sedans without making it a rear-seat leader.

Which sedan carries the most luggage?

The Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan has the largest published maximum cargo figure in this comparison at 63 cubic feet, but the EQS is a liftback-style electric sedan rather than a conventional three-box sedan. Its cited 22-to-63-cubic-foot range reflects the difference between the normal cargo configuration and maximum capacity.

The most useful cargo choice depends on whether the vehicle must carry luggage behind occupied rear seats or swallow tall, wide, and irregularly shaped objects:

Practical cargo need Strongest candidates Why
Maximum flexible cargo volume Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan Up to 63 cu. ft. in its published cargo range and a liftback opening
Combined front and rear storage Lucid Air 32.1 cu. ft. of combined frunk and trunk volume for the 2025 Air Pure
Large liftback cargo area with occupants aboard Tesla Model S 28.2 cu. ft. of maximum total cargo volume with the driver and four passengers
Conventional rear-seat-up cargo space Dodge Charger four-door 22.7 cu. ft. behind the rear seatbacks
Traditional trunk capacity from the cited BMW material BMW 7 Series 18.2 cu. ft. trunk, with the older source-date caveat
Roomy midsize alternative Toyota Crown 15.2 cu. ft. of cargo volume, smaller than the larger cargo figures above

A nominal cargo number does not describe the opening shape. A liftback can be easier for loading tall boxes, strollers, or bulky road-trip equipment, while a conventional trunk can protect luggage beneath a fixed parcel shelf. Owners of the Charger, 7 Series, or another sedan with a conventional trunk may also find a folding trunk organizer for sedan useful for separating smaller bags and loose equipment; verify dimensions before buying because no specific listing or model fitment was validated here.

Are electric sedans roomier than gas sedans?

Electric sedans are not automatically roomier than gas sedans. In this group, the electric EQS has 40.4 inches of rear legroom, but the gas-powered S-Class lists 43.8 inches and the BMW 7 Series reports 44.4 inches in older official material. The Lucid Air and Tesla Model S show the same trade-off: exceptional or useful front and cargo space without class-leading rear legroom.

Electric body styles can be more practical for luggage because the EQS, Model S, and Lucid Air use liftback or multiple-compartment cargo layouts. That advantage is about loading flexibility, not a universal increase in seating room. Compare the actual seat measurements and cargo opening for the people and equipment you carry.

The 10 roomiest sedans, model by model

1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class: best-documented current rear-seat stretch-out space

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC lists 43.8 inches of rear legroom, 41.4 inches of front legroom, 59.0 inches of rear shoulder room, and 59.6 inches of front shoulder room on Mercedes-Benz USA’s official specification page.

Amazon Basics Trunk Organizer for Car, Multi-Compartment Car Storage, Foldable, 13.5 Gallon, Black
  • GENEROUS CAPACITY: 13.5 gallon (51L) trunk organizer features strategic compartments to efficiently store and organize groceries, sports equipment, emergency supplies, and daily essentials
  • SMART ORGANIZATION: Multiple customizable sections with reinforced dividers keep items separate and easily accessible - eliminate trunk clutter and find what you need instantly
  • PROFESSIONAL CONSTRUCTION: Built with heavy-duty materials and reinforced structural support to maintain shape under load - no sagging or collapsing even when fully packed
  • SPACE-SAVING DESIGN: Innovative folding mechanism allows for flat storage when not in use - maximize trunk space without permanent installation

The S-Class is the most defensible choice for tall rear passengers when the comparison is limited to clearly identified current model-year data. Its rear-legroom figure trails the BMW 7 Series’ older 44.4-inch claim by 0.6 inch, but the S-Class figure carries a much clearer 2026 model-year context. The S-Class is best suited to buyers who prioritize rear-seat comfort, long-distance passenger use, or chauffeur-style seating over cargo versatility.

2. BMW 7 Series: exceptional rear legroom and a conventional trunk

BMW’s official U.S. launch material for the current-generation 7 Series reports 44.4 inches of second-row legroom and an 18.2-cubic-foot trunk. The same material characterized the 7 Series as BMW’s roomiest sedan and cited class-leading rear-seat legroom, but those are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 7 Series is a strong choice for rear-seat stretch-out room plus a traditional trunk. The important caveat is source age: the cited BMW release is dated June 10, 2015, not a newly issued 2026 U.S. specification sheet. Confirm the measurement for the exact year and configuration before treating the 44.4-inch figure as a current purchasing fact.

3. Genesis G90: strongest published passenger-volume case

Genesis identifies the G90 as a full-size luxury sedan on its U.S. model page. The available 2024 Genesis G90 specification sheet, issued in the research dossier as a March 20, 2025 document, lists 109.2 cubic feet of passenger volume, 42.3 inches of front legroom, 37.8 inches of rear legroom, 59.1 inches of front shoulder room, and 57.9 inches of rear shoulder room.

The G90’s strongest advantage is the breadth of its published cabin-volume data. A 125.2-inch wheelbase and 207.7-inch length are listed on the current Genesis G90 model page. The G90 is best for buyers who want a broad, luxurious flagship cabin and a strong overall passenger-volume claim, rather than the longest possible rear legroom number.

4. Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan: spacious electric flagship with flexible cargo capacity

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ lists 41.7 inches of front legroom, 40.4 inches of rear legroom, 59.5 inches of front shoulder room, and 59.1 inches of rear shoulder room on Mercedes-Benz USA’s official EQS specification page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The EQS stands apart when cargo flexibility matters as much as seating. Mercedes lists 22–63 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and the liftback-style body makes the maximum figure more useful for bulky items than a short, fixed trunk opening. The EQS is best for quiet electric travel, broad shoulder room, and carrying irregularly shaped cargo.

  • LARGE COLLAPSIBLE DESIGN: easy to install and adjust; organizer can be folded flat for storage, opened to 1 large compartment or fully extended to 2 large compartments; durable buckles secure compartments; includes 1 extra divider to create smaller compartments
  • GROCERIES, SPORTING GOODS, TOOLS, SUPPLIES: large capacity 2.08 cubic feet organizer when fully extended measures 24 inches by 15 inches by 10 inches; multiple interior compartments and mesh exterior pockets for easy organization while saving valuable trunk space; a perfect choice for storing groceries, sporting equipment, tools, work supplies and more

5. Lexus LS: traditional flagship comfort with strong front shoulder room

The available official Lexus LS specification release lists approximately 99.4 cubic feet of passenger volume with the moonroof configuration, 41.0 inches of front legroom, 38.9 inches of rear legroom, 58.8 inches of front shoulder room, and 56.4 inches of rear shoulder room.

The LS remains relevant for shoppers who want a conventional three-box luxury sedan, a wide front seating area, and a non-electric powertrain. The measurement source is dated January 2019, however, so treat these figures as a dated reference rather than an assumed 2026 specification. Roof configuration matters particularly because the cited passenger-volume figure is specifically associated with the moonroof configuration.

6. Lucid Air: standout front legroom and two-compartment cargo

The 2025 Lucid Air Pure technical specification lists 45.4 inches of front legroom, 37.6 inches of rear legroom, 100.7 cubic feet of passenger volume, and 32.1 cubic feet of combined frunk-and-trunk cargo volume. Lucid’s Air Pure specification sheet supports the individual Pure figures, while Lucid’s Air comparison page gives a 36.6-to-37.6-inch rear-legroom range and 131-to-133 cubic feet of passenger-plus-cargo volume depending on version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Air is not a rear-seat legroom champion, but the 45.4-inch front-legroom measurement is the strongest documented number in this group for tall drivers. The frunk-and-trunk arrangement also makes the Air useful for road trips when passengers and luggage must share the car.

7. Tesla Model S: liftback practicality in a low sedan body

Tesla’s Model S dimensions and owner-manual information lists 42.4 inches of front legroom, 35.5 inches of rear legroom, 58.4 inches of front shoulder room, and 55.1 inches of rear shoulder room. Tesla also lists 28.2 cubic feet of maximum total cargo volume with the driver and four passengers.

The Model S is not the best choice for maximum rear-seat stretch-out room. Its value is the combination of a liftback opening, frunk, and foldable rear seating, which makes the car more capable of carrying people and gear together than its low-slung sedan shape suggests.

8. Dodge Charger four-door: unusually practical performance sedan

The 2026 Dodge Charger four-door buyer guide lists 103.1 cubic feet of total interior volume, 42.6 inches of first-row legroom, 37.2 inches of second-row legroom, 59.5 inches of first-row shoulder room, 57.6 inches of second-row shoulder room, and 22.7 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seatbacks up. Those figures come from Stellantis Fleet’s 2026 Charger buyer guide.

Dodge also describes the four-door Charger as offering best-in-class passenger volume. That statement should be understood as a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparison, and the 103.1-cubic-foot figure should not be directly ranked against Genesis’s 109.2-cubic-foot passenger-volume figure because the labels differ. The Charger is best for buyers who want substantial rear-seat and trunk space in a performance-oriented four-door.

9. Audi A8/A8 L: flagship refinement with an unresolved U.S. 2026 dimension record

The Audi technical-data page confirms the A8 55 TFSI quattro as a current technical model and identifies the A8 as a flagship sedan, making the A8/A8 L a valid full-size comparison entry. The research did not locate a U.S.-specific 2026 interior-dimension sheet, so verified rear legroom, front legroom, shoulder room, and cargo figures are not supplied here.

The A8 belongs on a shortlist for understated flagship luxury and rear-seat refinement, but it should not be assigned an invented rank for roominess. Buyers comparing an A8 or A8 L with the S-Class, 7 Series, or G90 should request the exact market and model-year specification sheet and inspect the actual car.

10. Toyota Crown: roomy midsize comparator, not a full-size sedan

Toyota’s 2025 Crown brochure lists 42.1 inches of front legroom, 38.9 inches of rear legroom, 57.1 inches of front shoulder room, 55.1 inches of rear shoulder room, and 15.2 cubic feet of cargo volume. The same Toyota brochure classifies the Crown as a midsize sedan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Crown is included because many shoppers use large sedan as a practical description rather than a strict industry class. The Crown offers a roomy cabin and a non-luxury alternative to the flagship sedans above, but it should not be silently presented as a full-size sedan. If strict classification is essential, compare the Crown separately from the nine full-size or full-size-adjacent entries.

How should you choose and test the roomiest sedan?

Choose the sedan according to who needs the space and what the car must carry, then verify the measurements in person because published dimensions cannot capture every aspect of comfort.

Primary need Best starting points What the published data supports
Tall adults in the rear Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series 43.8 inches for the current S-Class; 44.4 inches for the 7 Series in older BMW launch material
Maximum room for a tall driver Lucid Air 45.4 inches of front legroom for the 2025 Air Pure
Broad overall passenger cabin Genesis G90 109.2 cubic feet of published passenger volume for the 2024 specification
Bulky cargo and flexible loading Mercedes-Benz EQS, Tesla Model S, or Lucid Air Liftback or multi-compartment layouts, with published maximum or combined figures
Large conventional cargo area Dodge Charger four-door 22.7 cubic feet behind the second row
Traditional flagship sedan Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Genesis G90, or Audi A8/A8 L Three-box or flagship designs, with the LS and A8 data carrying source-date or availability caveats
Roomy alternative outside the full-size class Toyota Crown 38.9 inches of rear legroom, but Toyota classifies it as midsize
  • Test the rear seat behind your driving position. Set the driver’s seat where you would actually use it, then sit behind it. A sedan with a strong published rear-legroom number may still feel less comfortable if the seat cushion, backrest angle, or footwell does not suit you.
  • Check shoulder room with the number of passengers you carry. Rear shoulder room matters more when two adults regularly share the back seat, while a wide front shoulder measurement helps a driver and front passenger avoid feeling crowded.
  • Check headroom separately. The supplied specifications do not provide a consistent headroom set for all 10 vehicles, and panoramic roofs, moonroofs, and sloping liftback roofs can change the result.
  • Bring the objects you actually transport. Open the trunk or liftback with a stroller, suitcase, cooler, or work equipment. Measure the opening and loading height rather than relying only on the published cubic-foot total.
  • Decide whether a trunk or liftback suits your routine. The EQS and Model S may accept bulky objects more easily, while the Charger, S-Class, LS, and 7 Series follow the conventional-trunk format represented by the cited data.
  • Verify the exact trim and model year. The BMW rear-legroom figure is from 2015 launch material, the Genesis passenger-volume figure is from a 2024 sheet, the Lexus figures are from 2019, and Audi’s U.S.-specific 2026 dimensions were not resolved.

Important model-year and classification caveats

This list mixes current 2026 specification pages with recent official data that remains useful for comparison but is not a newly issued 2026 sheet. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan, Genesis G90 model page, and Dodge Charger have current 2026 references in the supplied research. The Genesis cabin measurements are specifically from the 2024 G90 specification sheet, the Lexus LS measurements come from a 2019 official release, and the BMW 7 Series measurements come from a 2015 official launch release.

The Audi A8 is included as a strict full-size flagship candidate because Audi’s technical page confirms the model, but the article does not assign unverified interior numbers. The Toyota Crown is included only as a transparent roomy-sedan comparator because Toyota officially classifies it as midsize. The Chevrolet Malibu is not presented as a current 2026 alternative because its production run ended after the 2025 model year, according to Cars.com’s Chevrolet Malibu model-year research page.

For the most defensible shopping decision, treat the S-Class and 7 Series as rear-seat specialists, the G90 as the strongest published passenger-volume case, the Lucid Air as the tall-driver standout, and the EQS, Model S, Lucid Air, and Charger as different answers to the cargo-flexibility question.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the clearest current-data choice for rear-seat room, while the BMW 7 Series has the highest published rear-legroom figure but an older source. Choose the Genesis G90 for documented overall passenger volume, the Lucid Air for a tall driver, and the EQS, Model S, Lucid Air, or Charger according to whether flexible liftback storage or conventional trunk space matters most. The Toyota Crown is roomy, but it is officially midsize.
