Yes. Waymo opened its Miami ride-hailing service to everyone on April 15, 2026. Residents and visitors can request a fully autonomous ride through the Waymo app without an invitation, but only when both pickup and destination fall inside Waymo’s mapped service area. Airport access and freeway availability should be checked for the specific trip rather than assumed.
When did Waymo become available in Miami?
Waymo’s Miami rollout happened in stages:
- December 2024: Waymo announced plans to bring its ride-hailing service to Miami in 2026 with partner Moove.
- January 22, 2026: It began gradually welcoming its first Miami riders in an initial service area of about 60 square miles.
- April 15, 2026: Waymo opened the service to everyone in Miami; an invitation was no longer required.
- May 13, 2026: Waymo added more than 50 square miles to its Miami service area, including Hard Rock Stadium.
That distinction matters: the January launch was a limited rollout, while April marked general public access. The expansion is a separate change to where rides may be available. Waymo’s original Miami announcement, its January launch announcement, its April public-access announcement, and the May service-area update document the milestones.

Where does Waymo operate in Miami?
Waymo launched in parts of Miami that included the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell, and Coral Gables. It later expanded the service area by more than 50 square miles, including Hard Rock Stadium. Coverage is growing, but “Waymo is in Miami” does not mean it serves every neighborhood in the city or the wider metropolitan area.

The map—not a neighborhood name or straight-line distance—is the practical guide: a nearby pickup or destination may still fall outside the operating boundary. Coverage can change, so treat any neighborhood list as a snapshot rather than a guarantee.

Do not assume all of Miami Beach is covered. Miami Beach appeared as a planned travel example in Waymo’s January announcement, but that does not establish that every location there is currently serviceable. Enter the exact pickup and destination in the app.
How to book a Waymo ride
- Download the official Waymo app and create an account or sign in.
- Enter your pickup point and destination. If either location is outside the active service area, the app may not offer the trip.
- Review the available ride, estimated arrival time, and quoted fare before requesting it.
- Request the ride, then use the app to identify the assigned vehicle and follow its pickup instructions.
- When the car arrives, unlock it through the app and follow the in-car instructions. Use the rider controls or support options in the app if you need help.
Waymo lists Miami among the cities where anyone can download the app and ride without waiting for an invitation. That does not guarantee a car at every location or an immediate pickup: service-area limits and vehicle availability still apply. In Miami, the current official booking path is the Waymo app—not Uber.
Does Waymo serve Miami International Airport?
Do not count on an airport trip without checking it in the app. Waymo’s January launch announcement said it planned to expand to Miami International Airport, but the later official announcements cited here do not independently confirm that MIA service is live. That leaves current airport access unverified in those announcements; it is not proof that airport service is unavailable.
Before relying on Waymo for a flight, enter the exact airport destination shown in the app and confirm that it accepts the trip. If the app does not offer the route, arrange another option rather than assuming you can hail a Waymo at the terminal.
Can Waymo use Miami freeways?
Freeway access began rolling out to selected Miami riders in April 2026; it was not announced as universal access for every rider. Waymo says freeway access is gradually expanding. A trip that could ordinarily use a highway may instead be routed on surface streets, depending on rider access, route, or operating conditions. Check the route and estimate shown for your trip in the app, and allow extra time if highway travel is important.
What a Waymo ride is like
Waymo describes its Miami service as fully autonomous: the vehicle drives itself, generally without a human in the driver’s seat. The company says autonomous specialists may sometimes be in the vehicle to monitor the technology and provide feedback, so “driverless” does not mean no person will ever be present.

Waymo’s FAQ lists its all-electric Jaguar I-PACE fleet, operated by its fifth-generation Waymo Driver. The company has begun rolling out a newer vehicle, Ojai, in some other cities, but its FAQ does not establish that Miami riders can get one. Do not count on a particular model unless the app or Waymo confirms it for your ride.
Vehicles can currently accommodate up to four riders, with no passenger using the driver’s seat. For children under 8, the rider must bring and install an appropriate car or booster seat; children under 8 cannot sit in front. Check Waymo’s current rider FAQ for the full passenger rules before traveling with children.

Waymo shows a fare before you book. Its FAQ says pricing is based on the most direct route and does not change merely because the vehicle reroutes or adapts while driving. Prices may be higher during busy periods, including nights and weekends.
Rank #4
There is no verified universal Miami fare: the amount depends on the trip and when you request it. Check the app’s quote for your route rather than relying on a price from another trip. The available information also does not establish that Waymo is consistently cheaper or more expensive than Uber or Lyft.
For a useful comparison, request quotes for the same pickup and destination from Waymo, Uber, and Lyft within a short time window. Compare the vehicle type, estimated arrival, toll treatment, and price, and remember that Waymo may not cover the route at all. Quotes can vary with demand and timing.
When Waymo may—or may not—fit your trip
Waymo is worth considering when both endpoints are in the live service area, your party has four or fewer riders, and you are comfortable using an app and following in-car instructions. It may be a poor fit if you need guaranteed airport access, a larger vehicle, service beyond the mapped area, or a confirmed freeway route.
- Pickup or destination rejected: Check the map and try an eligible nearby point if it is safe and convenient; otherwise choose another ride option.
- Pickup location changed: Follow the app’s instructions for the assigned pickup point rather than waiting at a spot where the vehicle cannot stop.
- No freeway route offered: Allow for surface-street travel or use another service if highway access is essential.
- More than four passengers: Use a larger conventional rideshare vehicle or split the party into separate rides.
- Traveling with a young child: Bring and correctly install the required child seat.
- High fare or long wait: Recheck the quote and arrival estimate; compare with conventional rideshare, a taxi, or transit where practical.
- Airport trip: Confirm the exact destination in the Waymo app before relying on the service.
Waymo, Uber, Lyft, or a taxi?
Waymo’s main distinction is that the vehicle drives autonomously; in Miami, riders book through Waymo’s own app. Uber and Lyft are conventional rideshare alternatives, and may be more practical when Waymo does not serve an endpoint, a larger vehicle is needed, or a trip requires airport arrangements that Waymo has not confirmed. Taxis or other airport transportation may also suit trips where terminal access or group capacity is the priority.
There is no supported citywide price ranking among these options. Compare live quotes for the same trip, and consider coverage, wait time, passenger count, and pickup arrangements as well as fare.
