Cycle World’s published test data gives the strongest documented top speed in this comparison to the 1999 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa: 189.6 mph. The same compilation lists measured results for several Hayabusa, GSX-R and TL1000R model years, but it does not support a definitive all-time ranking of ten distinct Suzuki motorcycles. The figures below are individual magazine test results—not a standardized comparison across identical conditions.
How to read these top-speed figures
The speeds below come from Cycle World’s compiled motorcycle performance tests. Each belongs to a particular tested model year and magazine issue. They are useful for comparing documented results, but testing conditions were not normalized across years; the numbers should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head contest or as guaranteed speeds for every example of a model.
This is therefore a list of documented results, not a complete factory record book. The source includes many Suzuki tests without a top-speed entry. A blank measurement is missing evidence, not evidence that a motorcycle was slower. The available results establish more than ten model-year entries, but not ten definitive places in an all-time ranking.

Source for all rows: Cycle World’s “Sportbike Performance Numbers”. The issue references and model-year results are reproduced as listed in that compilation. The 2006 GSX-R600 result is explicitly described as gearing-limited, so it is not directly comparable to an unrestricted top-speed result.

What the results say about Suzuki’s fastest bikes
The Hayabusa leads the documented list
The 1999 Hayabusa’s 189.6-mph result is the highest measured figure in the data cited here. Suzuki says the model launched in 1999 and was immediately heralded as the fastest production bike on the market. Its original design brief emphasized aerodynamic presence and high performance: Yoshiura-san, head of design on the original Hayabusa project, said, “The concept of the first Hayabusa was to create an original and dominating impact with superior aerodynamics, as well as being the most powerful sports motorcycle,” reflected Yoshiura san, the head of design on the original Hayabusa project. “I designed it with the intention of getting attention, using a unique motorcycle design. It needed to be the ultimate road-legal motorcycle with the highest performance from mass-produced bikes.”
The 2001 Hayabusa also appears near the top, at 183.9 mph. That is a separate model-year test result; it should not be read as a later measurement of the 1999 bike or as proof that every Hayabusa reaches either speed.

- Meets or exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards.
- Visor lock keeps the outer visor firmly attached on the helmet while riding at High Speed, ensures safety.
- Multiple vents for optimum ventilation, quick release and metal buckle offers solid protection.
- Removable, replaceable and washable inner liner with Comtex Technology, softer, more comfortable and better fit.
- Full face helmet comes with 2 visors(Clear and Mirrored Visors), both are compatible with Pin-lock anti-fog visor(Not Included) and 2 fins(Tinted Black and Mirrored Fins).
GSX-R1000 results cluster near the top
The tested 2007 and 2009 GSX-R1000s each reached 184.3 mph in Cycle World’s data. The tested 2004, 2001 and 2002 examples recorded 180, 179 and 177 mph respectively. Because these were different tests from different years, the close figures do not establish a precise ranking of the underlying model generations.
Smaller GSX-Rs and the TL1000R are also represented
The table includes tested GSX-R750s from 1996, 2000 and 2008, plus a 1997 GSX-R1100, 1998 TL1000R and 2006 GSX-R600. These figures broaden the comparison beyond the Hayabusa and GSX-R1000, but they remain individual test results rather than a comprehensive survey of every Suzuki motorcycle.

Why the Hayabusa and GSX-R are not the same kind of fast
The Hayabusa is associated with high-speed performance and long-distance comfort, while GSX-R models are supersport motorcycles. Suzuki GB has described the Hayabusa as shifting further toward high-speed comfort as GSX-R1000s advanced in superbike performance. That distinction matters: a single peak-speed figure does not capture a motorcycle’s intended use or overall character.
Suzuki’s factory test rider Yuichi Nakashima described the Hayabusa’s engine this way: “I can say the Hayabusa’s engine feels so overwhelmingly powerful and finely tuned that there is nothing like it. After riding it you won’t want to ride another motorcycle. Everyone should, at least once, experience the Hayabusa’s powerful acceleration from low to high speeds. and you too will be hooked.”

How current Hayabusa specifications fit the comparison
Suzuki’s US product page for the 2027 Hayabusa lists a 1,340cc liquid-cooled inline-four, ride-by-wire throttle and Suzuki Intelligent Ride System features. This is a US-market listing for that model year, not a claim about availability in every country. Separately, Global Suzuki gives a nominal top speed of 299 km/h for the Hayabusa described on its product page. That manufacturer figure is a different kind of claim from Cycle World’s measured results and should not be substituted for them.
See Suzuki Cycles’ 2027 Hayabusa page for the US model details and Global Suzuki’s Hayabusa product information for the nominal 299 km/h figure. Suzuki’s digital motorcycle archive provides model-history and specification material; displacement or engine output alone does not establish a measured top speed.

Use top-speed data safely
These figures are historical test-context measurements, not targets for public-road riding. Do not attempt top-speed runs on public roads; use a properly controlled, legal environment and qualified supervision where such testing is permitted.
