Short answer: the second-generation Tesla Roadster has reached another reveal and reservation phase, not confirmed retail production. As of 16 October 2026, Tesla is advertising extraordinary performance targets and accepting reservations, but no independently verified customer-delivery record, final production price or locked delivery schedule has been established.
That distinction matters because the reported 2026 reservation structure totals $50,000, while Tesla’s own terms say a reservation provides only approximate priority for a future configuration and order. It is not a vehicle purchase or a completed order.

What has actually arrived?
Tesla unveiled this second-generation Roadster in 2017 and originally promised a 2020 release. The Information reported in June 2026 that Tesla had pushed a planned public demonstration to August or later, making the Roadster one of the company’s longest-delayed products. September 2026 reports described reservations reopening ahead of a planned October reveal.
Those events establish demonstrations, reservations and marketing activity. They do not establish that customer cars are built, homologated for sale or being delivered. On the evidence available through 16 October 2026, the Roadster remains a reservation-stage product.

Tesla’s advertised Roadster specifications
Tesla’s current product page describes the car as an all-electric supercar and advertises the following figures:
| Specification | Tesla’s advertised figure | What is verified |
|---|---|---|
| 0–60 mph | 1.9 seconds | Manufacturer target; no production-car test is established here |
| Top speed | More than 250 mph | Manufacturer target; production validation is not established |
| Range | 620 miles | Manufacturer claim; no independent production-car result is established |
Tesla’s own wording is: “As an all-electric supercar, Roadster maximizes the potential of aerodynamic engineering—with record-setting performance and efficiency.” Until a production vehicle is independently tested, the 1.9-second acceleration, 250-plus-mph top speed and 620-mile range should be treated as advertised targets rather than demonstrated customer-car results.
What a reported $50,000 reservation buys
Electrek and TechRadar reported in September 2026 that Tesla reopened reservations with $5,000 due initially and another $45,000 due within 10 days, for a reported total of $50,000. That is a reservation payment, not a confirmed purchase price.

Tesla’s current reservation terms say the payment gives the customer approximate priority for configuring and ordering. The same terms say the estimated purchase price is only an estimate while Tesla continues working on options, features and hardware. They explicitly state that the reservation does not constitute the purchase or order of a vehicle.
In practical terms, the reported $50,000 places money into a queue whose final specification, price and delivery timing remain unsettled. It does not guarantee a build slot, a fixed price or a handover date.
How the current terms differ from the historical agreement
A historical Tesla Motors, Inc. U.S. Roadster reservation agreement listed a $9,900 “Reservation Step 1” fee and a $109,000 base price, excluding taxes, fees, destination and options. Those numbers belong to that earlier agreement and should not be presented as today’s pricing. Tesla’s current terms say final pricing is not yet confirmed.

Has Tesla delivered any second-generation Roadsters?
No verified retail-delivery record is established in the available evidence as of 16 October 2026. Reports describe a planned reveal and reopened reservations, but not customer handovers. A displayed prototype, demonstration car or reservation account is not proof that production vehicles have reached buyers.
Why the timeline remains uncertain
The project has already missed its original 2020 release promise. The 2026 reporting indicates that even the public demonstration schedule moved, while the October reveal was still described as a planned event. Tesla has not, in the cited material, published a locked customer-delivery timetable or final production specification.
That history creates two separate questions: whether Tesla can show a functioning, updated Roadster, and whether it can manufacture, certify and service that car at scale. A reveal can answer the first question partially; only production cars and customer deliveries answer the second.
Quick Recap
What to check before paying a reservation
- Read the current reservation agreement. Confirm what priority means, when each payment is due and what cancellation or refund provisions apply.
- Separate the reservation from the purchase. Tesla’s terms say the reservation is not an order and that the estimated purchase price can change.
- Wait for production evidence if certainty matters. Look for a finalized specification, regulatory approval, independent testing and documented customer deliveries rather than relying on prototype claims.
- Budget for an unresolved final price. The reported $50,000 payment does not include a confirmed total vehicle price, taxes, fees or options.
