The whole assembly is not simply glued to the truck: it also uses fasteners. Owners should check their VIN; Tesla’s remedy is a free cantrail assembly replacement.
Which Cybertrucks are included?
NHTSA campaign 25V-170 (Tesla campaign SB-25-10-001) covers potentially involved 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks built from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025. Tesla’s March 2025 filing lists 46,096 vehicles in that population. That does not mean every listed truck has the defect: Tesla estimated that 1% of the potentially involved vehicles had it.
Applicability to an individual truck is determined by its VIN. Check Tesla’s recall search or NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup, rather than relying only on model year or build dates.
What part can come loose?
The affected component is an exterior trim assembly along the roofline, identified in Tesla’s NHTSA filing as the cant rail and spelled cantrail on Tesla’s support page. It combines an electrocoated steel stamping with a stainless-steel panel. Structural adhesive joins those pieces, while fasteners attach the assembly to the vehicle.

The reported failure is delamination of the stainless-steel panel at its adhesive joint. So the shorthand “just glued on” misses an important detail: the recall concerns a panel separating from an assembly that is also fastened to the truck, not proof that the entire assembly is held on by adhesive alone.
What is the safety risk?
If the panel separates while the Cybertruck is moving, it could become a road hazard for motorists behind it and increase the risk of injury or a collision. Tesla says cabin noise may make a delaminating panel detectable; owners may also notice the panel loosening.

In its filing, Tesla reported 151 warranty claims that might be related to the condition as of March 14, 2025. The company also said it was not aware of related collisions, fatalities, or injuries as of that date. These are historical figures from the filing, not current totals.
What is Tesla’s remedy?
Tesla’s remedy is to replace the cantrail assembly at no charge. The replacement design uses a different structural adhesive described in the filing as not prone to environmental embrittlement, and adds a stud welded to the stainless-steel panel with a nut to clamp the panel to the vehicle structure.

Tesla’s Cybertruck Cantrail Replacement support page estimates the service takes approximately one hour. Tesla says affected owners may continue driving and that it will contact them to schedule service when parts are available in their region. Check the VIN and follow Tesla’s direct service guidance for your vehicle.
Is this the same as the earlier Cybertruck bed-trim recall?
No. Tesla’s 2024 sail applique recall involved a different trim piece at the exterior of the trunk bed. The two campaigns have distinct parts, failure descriptions, affected populations, and remedies:

The cantrail population and the sail applique population should not be added together to determine whether a particular truck is affected; use the VIN lookup for each campaign.

Tesla’s NHTSA filing says the company became aware of a field complaint on January 7, 2025, began an engineering study on January 13, received notification of an NHTSA owner questionnaire on February 21, and decided on March 11 to conduct a voluntary recall. Tesla submitted the Part 573 report on March 18, 2025.

The filing identifies the adhesive used in the recalled component as susceptible to environmental embrittlement. Tesla described the replacement adhesive as not prone to that issue; the added stud and nut provide a mechanical clamp in the replacement design.
