Tesla’s 2024 Holiday Update was a December 2024 over-the-air release tied to vehicle software 2024.44.25, not an upcoming 2026 launch. Eligible Teslas received features including Apple Watch controls, mobile Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, navigation upgrades, and model-specific changes such as Auto Shift beta and Cybertruck customization.
The release was selective: Tesla features vary by model, hardware, trim, build date, region, software version, phone platform, and subscription status. The practical question is not whether a Tesla “got” the Holiday Update, but which individual features that Tesla can use.

Key takeaways
- Tesla’s 2024 Holiday Update was a December 2024 over-the-air software release associated with vehicle software 2024.44.25, followed by later 2024.44.x revisions.
- Apple Watch support requires a supported Apple Watch, watchOS 11.0 or newer, Tesla app version 4.39.5 or newer, and Tesla vehicle software 2024.44.25 or newer.
- Mobile viewing and sharing of Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips may require Premium Connectivity and, in Tesla’s cited Model 3 manual, an iPhone or other iOS device.
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert is a driver warning that can identify traffic outside the backup-camera view; it is not autonomous reversing or collision prevention.
- Auto Shift applies to eligible stalkless Model 3 configurations, while several visual, camera, entertainment, and customization features are specific to Cybertruck.
- Tesla feature availability varies by vehicle configuration, hardware, software version, region, trim, model year, and build date.
What is in Tesla’s 2024 Holiday Update?
Tesla’s 2024 Holiday Update was a broad over-the-air software package, not a hardware refresh or a single safety recall. The update combined vehicle controls, navigation and weather tools, camera access, entertainment, customization, and selected driver-warning functions. The documented release was associated with software version 2024.44.25 in December 2024, with later 2024.44.x revisions documented afterward in the 2024.44.25 release notes archive.
The release was selective. Tesla did not give every vehicle every feature, and a feature shown in release notes may still be unavailable because of a Tesla’s hardware, trim, model year, build date, region, or later software state. Owners should check the vehicle touchscreen at Controls > Software and consult the current owner’s manual before assuming that a listed feature applies to a particular car.

Tesla’s official safety documentation also explains that Tesla vehicles receive safety improvements through free over-the-air updates. That general statement does not establish that every vehicle received every Holiday Update feature or that the update produced a measured reduction in crashes.
Does the Tesla Apple Watch app work with Apple Watch SE 2?
Yes. Tesla explicitly lists the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) as a supported watch, provided the watch runs watchOS 11.0 or newer, the Tesla mobile app is version 4.39.5 or newer, and the Tesla vehicle runs software 2024.44.25 or newer. The Apple Watch SE 2 is one supported option, not a claim that every Apple Watch generation works with Tesla.
Tesla describes the integration as follows: “The Tesla app provides you with controls to your Tesla vehicle, now directly from the Apple Watch.” The official Tesla Apple Watch support page lists Watch Key functionality, vehicle locking and unlocking, frunk opening, battery-status viewing, charge-port opening, and climate-control activation. Tesla’s Model 3 manual also documents locking and unlocking the car, opening and closing the trunk, opening the frunk, and using the Apple Watch as a key in the same general way as a phone key.
For readers shopping specifically for the hardware dependency, an Apple Watch for Tesla owners should be checked against Tesla’s current compatibility requirements before purchase. A supported watch alone is not enough: the car’s firmware, the Tesla app, and watchOS must also meet the stated versions.

Apple Watch compatibility checklist
- Watch: Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), Apple Watch Ultra, or newer supported hardware.
- Watch software: watchOS 11.0 or newer.
- Tesla app: Version 4.39.5 or newer.
- Tesla vehicle software: Version 2024.44.25 or newer.
- Setup expectation: The watch must be configured through the Tesla app and supported as a key or control device; compatibility can change with later Tesla software and regional support.
Can an Apple Watch unlock a Tesla?
An Apple Watch can unlock a compatible Tesla when the watch is supported and configured as a Watch Key. Tesla also documents Apple Watch controls for locking the vehicle, opening the frunk, opening and closing the trunk on Model 3 documentation, checking battery charge, opening the charge port, and turning climate control on.
The Apple Watch integration is best understood as an additional access and control option, not a replacement for checking the car’s compatibility requirements. Older Apple Watch generations that fall outside Tesla’s supported list should not be assumed to work, and an Apple Watch running an older watchOS version cannot satisfy the stated watchOS 11.0 requirement.

The Holiday Update added mobile access to Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips, allowing supported footage to be watched and shared through the Tesla mobile application. Tesla’s cited 2024+ Model 3 Owner’s Manual says that this function requires Premium Connectivity and Tesla mobile app version 4.39.5 or newer, and the cited documentation limits the feature to iOS.
The update does not eliminate every storage or subscription consideration. Mobile access is the software feature; Dashcam and Sentry Mode still depend on the vehicle’s recording system and stored footage. A physical USB flash drive or SSD can remain useful for recording and transferring clips, but a storage accessory is not presented as a required Holiday Update purchase. Premium Connectivity may still be required for mobile viewing and sharing.
| Use case | What the Holiday Update changes | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Watch clips in the Tesla app | Adds mobile access to supported Dashcam and Sentry Mode footage | Universal support on every Tesla or phone platform |
| Share clips from the app | Provides sharing from supported mobile-app implementations | That Premium Connectivity is unnecessary |
| Store or export footage locally | Does not replace physical recording media | That a USB drive or SSD is no longer useful |
What safety features did Tesla add?
Rear Cross Traffic Alert is the clearest safety-oriented addition associated with the 2024 Holiday Update. The warning is intended to alert a driver reversing when a potential collision is outside the backup-camera view. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains: “Rear cross traffic warning alerts the driver of potential collisions, while in reverse, that may be outside the view of the backup camera.”

- [4K+1080P Dual Recording] REDTIGER F7N TOUCH captures your drive journey in stunning 4K UHD resolution with STARVIS 2 sensor 170° wide-angle view for the front dash cam and 1080P FHD resolution 140° wide-angle for the rear car camera. - [Loop Recording & G-Sensor] REDTIGER F7N TOUCH dual channel dash cam automatically overwrites the oldest footage when the memory is full, ensuring endless recording with the included 128GB card. With a built-in G-sensor that detects sudden movements or impacts, it automatically locks and protects the associated footage when an event is detected on the road, ensuring it won't be overwritten during loop recording.
- [24-hour Parking Monitoring*] REDTIGER Car dashboard camera offers G-Sensor Parking Mode that automatically record when it detects any collisions or sudden motion while vehicles is parked. Time Lapse Parking Mode provides continuous surveillance by offering a condensed overview of any events that may occur during parking periods. *Please note that the parking monitoring function requires a separate hardwire kit.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert is a warning aid, not autonomous reversing, collision-proofing, or permission to reverse without checking the surroundings. NHTSA advises drivers to understand how driver-assistance systems work and to consult the vehicle owner’s manual. Availability also depends on the vehicle’s configuration and software support, so Rear Cross Traffic Alert should not be described as a feature of every Model 3 or every Tesla.

The wider road-safety context is important but should not be confused with an update result. According to NHTSA’s 2024 figure, 39,254 lives were lost on U.S. roads in 2024. That statistic does not measure the effect of Tesla’s Holiday Update. Similarly, the IIHS 2024 Tesla safety-award listing records Top Safety Pick+ recognition for the 2024 Tesla Model Y 4-door SUV and Top Safety Pick recognition for the 2024 Tesla Model Y AWD 4-door SUV; those vehicle-evaluation results do not show that the Holiday Update caused either award.
No independent controlled study identified for this update measures crash reduction, adoption, rollout speed, or a quantified safety improvement. The responsible conclusion is that the update added a driver warning on eligible vehicles, not that Tesla demonstrated a specific crash-rate improvement.
What did Tesla add to Cybertruck in the 2024 Holiday Update?
Cybertruck received several model-specific additions that were not general Tesla features. The documented changes included custom vehicle wraps, license-plate customization, rear-camera improvements, rear-screen arcade functions, and Santa Mode. Cybertruck also received entertainment-related changes alongside broader updates such as Boomerang Fu and other in-car entertainment options.
Cybertruck owners should therefore treat the release notes as a model-specific checklist. A Model 3, Model Y, Model S, or Model X should not be expected to display Cybertruck’s visual customization, rear-screen, or camera functions merely because the vehicle installed a related 2024.44.x revision.

How does Auto Shift work in this update?
Auto Shift was introduced as a beta feature for eligible stalkless Model 3 configurations. The stalkless requirement is significant: Auto Shift should not be generalized to every Model 3, because Tesla vehicle hardware and control layouts differ by configuration and build date.
Auto Shift belongs in the convenience category rather than the autonomous-driving category. Owners should use the vehicle’s current on-screen instructions and manual for the exact supported behavior, remain attentive, and verify that the vehicle’s configuration actually exposes the beta feature.
What other features were included?
The remaining Holiday Update features focused mainly on planning, ownership information, entertainment, and personalization:
- Maintenance Summary: a touchscreen view intended to make vehicle-maintenance information easier to review.
- Set Arrival Energy at Destination: a trip-planning control for specifying the desired energy level on arrival.
- Search Along Route: navigation search with estimated detour times.
- Precipitation Map and Weather at Destination: weather-related navigation information where supported.
- SiriusXM and TuneIn updates: changes to supported in-car audio services, subject to market and service availability.
- Passenger-seat controls: additional controls for the passenger side on supported vehicles.
- Scheduled Light Shows: the ability to schedule supported Light Show behavior.
- Entertainment: Boomerang Fu and other entertainment updates on eligible vehicles.
These features are not all safety functions, and entertainment or navigation availability can vary by region, vehicle hardware, account, and software version.
How can owners check whether their Tesla received the update?
- Open the vehicle touchscreen and select Controls > Software.
- Record the installed vehicle software version, including the complete 2024.44.x revision if shown.
- Compare the vehicle’s model, model year, hardware, trim, and stalk configuration with the feature’s eligibility notes.
- Update the Tesla mobile app if Apple Watch or mobile clip access is the intended feature.
- For Apple Watch controls, verify the watch model and watchOS version, then follow Tesla’s current Apple Watch setup instructions.
- For mobile Dashcam or Sentry Mode clips, verify Premium Connectivity, iOS compatibility in the cited documentation, and the app version requirement.
- Read the current owner’s manual and the vehicle’s release-notes screen, because later firmware revisions may alter feature availability or requirements.
An installed 2024.44.25-related version does not by itself prove that every listed feature is active. Tesla’s official materials caution that availability can vary with region, model, configuration, hardware, software version, trim, model year, and build date.

Does the Tesla Apple Watch app work with Apple Watch SE 2?
Yes, an Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) is among Tesla’s supported Apple Watch devices. Tesla also requires watchOS 11.0 or newer, Tesla app version 4.39.5 or newer, and vehicle software 2024.44.25 or newer.
Do I need Premium Connectivity for Tesla Dashcam clips?
Mobile viewing and sharing of Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips may require Premium Connectivity and Tesla mobile app version 4.39.5 or newer. Tesla’s cited 2024+ Model 3 manual documents the feature for iOS, so Android availability should not be assumed from this documentation.

The Bottom Line
Tesla’s 2024 Holiday Update was a December 2024 software release, not an upcoming 2026 launch. The most practical additions were Apple Watch controls and mobile Dashcam/Sentry Mode access, while Rear Cross Traffic Alert added a warning aid on eligible vehicles. Owners must verify the exact model, hardware, region, app, watchOS, vehicle-software, and Premium Connectivity requirements before assuming a feature is available.
