Verdict: is the Skoda Kodiaq a good family car?
Yes, if your priorities are a large, flexible cabin, a choice of drivetrains and the option of a third row. The conventional five-seat model has unusually generous luggage capacity, while the seven-seat version lets you carry more people when required. The range also covers buyers who cannot charge at home, buyers doing high annual mileage and those who need four-wheel drive.
It is not a blanket recommendation for every family. The third row should be treated as occasional-use seating until you have checked access and child-seat compatibility yourself. The plug-in hybrid needs regular charging to deliver its efficiency advantage, and its luggage capacity is different from the conventional five-seat Kodiaq. Finally, the UK price and specification quoted here are a snapshot, not a permanent nationwide offer.

Which Kodiaq this review covers
This is the second-generation Kodiaq, not the first-generation vehicle tested by Euro NCAP on a separate assessment page. Škoda’s current model information describes the new car as a family SUV with five- and seven-seat configurations. Model-year naming and equipment can differ between countries, so confirm the exact engine, trim, number of seats and standard equipment in the configurator for the market where you will register the car.
The published powertrain sheet used here is marked valid as of November 2025. That date matters: Škoda can add, remove or repackage engines and trims without changing the Kodiaq’s generation.

Boot space, seating and everyday practicality
Five-seat and seven-seat capacities
Škoda’s Kodiaq model page quotes 910 litres of luggage space behind the rear seats in the five-seat configuration. Fold those seats and the published capacity rises to 2,105 litres. These are manufacturer figures, so use the same measurement convention when comparing another SUV; quoted litres are not always measured with identical load arrangements.

With the optional third row occupied, the seven-seat Kodiaq has 340 litres behind the rearmost seats. Folding the rear seats gives a published 2,035-litre maximum in the seven-seat form. The practical decision is therefore straightforward: choose five seats if carrying bulky luggage is the normal use, and choose seven if the ability to carry additional passengers is worth the reduction in luggage room when all seats are deployed.
The plug-in hybrid is a separate case
Škoda’s Kodiaq iV practicality page states a 579-litre boot for the plug-in hybrid. Do not substitute the conventional five-seat figure for the iV, and do not assume that the seven-seat option is available with the iV unless your local listing explicitly says so. Battery packaging makes the iV’s luggage specification a distinct one.

Dimensions and parking
Škoda’s technical data lists an overall length of 4,758 mm and a 2,791 mm wheelbase. That is useful context for a family vehicle: measure your garage, driveway and regular parking spaces rather than relying on a brochure photograph. Take the child seats, pushchair and the people who will use the third row to a dealer, because door opening, access to the rearmost seats and the position of the second-row seats determine whether the paper capacity works for your family.
What the figures do not prove
The published capacities establish how much space Škoda claims, not whether three adults will be comfortable in the third row for a long journey. The evidence supports calling the extra seats occasional-use places; an adult-comfort verdict requires an in-person assessment. Check headroom, knee room, step-in height and whether the second row can be moved without disturbing installed child seats.
Engines, transmissions and published economy
The following table reproduces the powertrains in Škoda’s specification document valid as of November 2025. Every consumption and emissions range is a WLTP combined figure supplied by Škoda, not an observed road-test result. A range reflects the certified configuration spread, including equipment and wheel differences where applicable.

Škoda’s older technology material gives a historic overview of the range, but the dated November 2025 specification sheet is the better reference for current variants. Always reconcile it with the local configurator before ordering: an engine shown in the global document may not be sold in your country or on your chosen trim.
Which engine should you buy?
- Choose the 1.5 TSI mild hybrid if you want petrol operation without installing a charger. It is front-wheel drive and uses a seven-speed DSG in the published specification.
- Choose the iV plug-in hybrid only when you can charge regularly at home or work and most daily trips fit the electric-driving routine. Its certified consumption is especially sensitive to how often the battery is replenished; it is not a promise of that figure on a long, uncharged journey.
- Choose the 2.0 TDI when your annual mileage and journey pattern justify diesel and the engine is offered locally. The lower certified consumption ranges may suit sustained motorway use, but local tax, emissions rules and short-trip usage should be part of the calculation.
- Choose a 2.0 TSI if petrol power and four-wheel drive are more important than minimising certified fuel consumption. Both listed versions use 4×4; the higher-output version carries the highest published petrol consumption range.
There is no evidence here for ranking these engines by acceleration, refinement, ride or real-world economy. Those decisions require a properly comparable road test and, for the iV, an assessment of your charging access and daily mileage.

Safety: five stars, with family-use details to check
Euro NCAP tested the second-generation Kodiaq in 2024 and awarded five stars. Škoda UK’s announcement dated 15 July 2024 reports category scores of 89% for Adult Occupant, 83% for Child Occupant, 82% for Vulnerable Road User and 78% for Safety Assist, describing the overall result as 84% of the maximum points.

Why the star rating is not the whole answer
Euro NCAP’s detailed assessment found the passenger compartment stable in the frontal-offset test and recorded good protection in several key occupant tests. It also identified practical limitations that matter to families: some child-restraint types could not be installed in the occasional foldable third row, and the Kodiaq has no child-presence detection system. Check the exact child seats you use against the seating position you intend to occupy rather than assuming every restraint fits every row.
The detailed assessment also includes a penalty related to the performance of the impact partner in the frontal-offset test. That technical finding sits alongside the five-star result; it is one reason to read the category detail rather than treating the star count as a complete buying recommendation.
Do not use the first-generation Kodiaq’s separate Euro NCAP page as evidence for this vehicle. It concerns a different generation and should not be mixed with the 2024 assessment.
UK trims, equipment and prices
SE starting point
At the time captured, Škoda UK listed the five-seat SE from £39,045. The page described equipment including 18-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch navigation touchscreen, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The capture date is not stated on the page, so treat the amount as a volatile UK reference rather than a guaranteed current list price.

Why a configurator total can be higher
A UK configurator example showed an SE (5 seats) with the 1.5 TSI e-TEC mild hybrid at £41,375 and then listed optional equipment and accessories. That is a configuration-specific total, not the price of every SE. Compare like for like: seat count, engine, paint, wheels, packs, delivery charges and registration costs can all change the amount.
The UK model page shows a wider range including plug-in-hybrid, 4×4 and vRS variants, but trim names, standard equipment and seat availability can change. Confirm the build sheet in writing before placing a deposit, especially if you need seven seats or a particular drivetrain.

Plug-in use
The iV makes sense when charging is convenient and predictable. Before selecting it, confirm whether your home has a suitable charger or socket, whether workplace charging is available and how your routine changes on holidays or long motorway trips. The certified 1.5–1.8 l/100 km range in the table assumes the test conditions used for a plug-in hybrid; it should not be presented as a universal real-world average.
Roof box and cabin protection
Škoda’s UK configurator lists a 400-litre roof box and all-weather interior mats. These are useful examples of factory accessories for holiday luggage and muddy family use, but check the roof bars, roof-load limit, Kodiaq generation, trim and exact part fit before buying. The listing does not establish third-party compatibility or stock outside that configuration.

Assistance equipment
Škoda’s technology material describes driver-assistance and powertrain features, but the equipment supplied depends on trim and market. Ask for the exact standard-and-optional equipment list for the car you are ordering; a feature shown on a global model page is not automatically included on a UK SE or on every seven-seat version.

How to compare a Kodiaq with another large family SUV
Published rival data is not included here, so a responsible comparison should use the same questions for every candidate:
- Third-row usability: install your child seats and have the intended passengers enter and leave the rearmost row.
- Boot volume with your required seats occupied: compare the litres available in the exact seating configuration, not only the maximum with rows folded.
- Charging access: calculate whether a plug-in hybrid can be charged often enough to justify its additional complexity and different boot layout.
- Engine, drive and towing requirement: match the available drivetrain to mileage, terrain and any trailer requirement, then verify the local technical limit.
- Trim and on-road price: compare equivalent safety, seating, navigation, heating and convenience equipment after options and fees.
- Safety detail: check the assessment year, child-restraint compatibility and whether child-presence detection is fitted.
Kodiaq buying checklist
- Confirm whether the car is a five- or seven-seat build and whether that layout is available with the selected engine.
- Record the exact engine output, transmission and drive system from the order form.
- For an iV, establish where and how often you will charge and check the separate boot specification.
- Measure your garage and parking space against the 4,758 mm overall length.

- Check current UK pricing, delivery charges and options instead of relying on the captured £39,045 SE reference.
- Ask which driver-assistance features are standard on your trim and which require an option pack.
- For a roof box, verify bars, load limit, generation and trim-specific fit before purchase.
Final assessment
The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq’s strongest case is practical flexibility: a genuinely large five-seat load area, an available third row, and a powertrain range broad enough to cover charging households, petrol buyers, diesel high-mileage users and four-wheel-drive requirements. Its five-star 2024 Euro NCAP result is reassuring, provided you also account for the third-row restraint limitations and the absence of child-presence detection.
The right specification depends on your routine. Buy the five-seater for maximum luggage space, select seven seats when occasional extra passengers justify the compromise, and choose the iV only if regular charging is realistic. Because prices, trims and local availability move, treat the November 2025 specification and captured UK figures as reference points and verify the exact car before signing.
