An electric Opel Agila appears possible, but it is not confirmed. Reporting published on 27 October 2026 describes a potential Opel sister car using the same small-EV basis as Citroën’s 2CV concept and a related Fiat model reportedly known as “Koala.” Opel and Stellantis have not confirmed the Agila name, design, launch date or specifications. What is official is Stellantis’ wider E-Car programme: small, affordable, fully electric cars for Europe, with first production planned at Pomigliano d’Arco in Italy from 2028.
Is the Opel Agila really coming back as an electric car?
Possibly, but the project remains a media report rather than a product announcement. Italian magazine Quattroruote, cited by electrive on 27 October 2026, identified a possible Opel sister model on the same technical basis as the planned Citroën and Fiat cars. Neither Opel nor Stellantis has confirmed that the vehicle will be called Agila.

Autopista reported that a Stellantis presentation in May 2026 showed three vehicle silhouettes. One was interpreted as a compact, high-roof Opel-like model, although the publication also described the Opel assignment and name as speculation. A report that the Opel version could arrive several months after the Citroën and Fiat cars is likewise a media projection, not a launch commitment.
What has Stellantis officially announced?
Stellantis announced its E-Car project on 19 May 2026. The company describes a family of small, innovative, affordable, fully electric cars developed with selected partners for European customers, with first production planned from 2028 at Pomigliano d’Arco. The announcement does not identify an Opel model or provide Agila-specific technical data.

The programme is intended to strengthen Stellantis’ position in Europe’s small-car market. Chief executive Antonio Filosa said, “Das E-Car passt perfekt zum Erfolg im Kleinwagen-Segment, der tief in unserer europäischen Stellantis-DNA verwurzelt ist.” That statement confirms the strategic direction, not a particular Opel vehicle.
How is the possible Agila related to Citroën’s electric 2CV?
If the Opel enters production, it would likely be a sister model sharing an underlying E-Car architecture, manufacturing strategy or major components with the Citroën and Fiat vehicles. That does not mean the cars would look alike or have identical equipment.

Citroën chief executive Xavier Chardon said, “Den 2CV neu zu erfinden bedeutet nicht, ein Auto der Vergangenheit zu kopieren.” The statement signals a modern interpretation rather than a literal reproduction of the original 2CV. An Opel derivative could therefore use a more upright, practical body while sharing cost-saving engineering beneath the skin.
What might the new Agila look like?
Current descriptions point to a compact, practical, high-roof hatchback or mini-MPV with short overhangs and a footprint of roughly four metres. Those details are inferences based on the former Agila and the silhouettes described by journalists, not confirmed Opel dimensions.
Why the old Agila name fits the speculation
Opel sold the previous Agila from 2000 to 2014 in two generations. The first was related to the Suzuki Wagon R+, while the second shared its basis with the Suzuki Splash. Both used a tall roof and compact exterior to prioritise cabin room and urban manoeuvrability. That history makes Agila a plausible badge for a practical small electric car, but it does not establish that Opel has chosen the name.

What is known about size, price and timing?
Only the Citroën concept has published figures. Opel’s numbers should not be substituted with Citroën’s targets.

A separate report discussed an M1E policy concept involving vehicles under 4.20 metres and a possible 1.3 CO2-accounting factor. That reported policy idea is not an Opel specification and should not be read as confirmation of Agila dimensions or emissions performance.
When could an electric Agila launch?
There is no confirmed launch date. Stellantis’ official timetable says first E-Car production is planned from 2028, while reporting suggests the Opel could follow the Citroën and Fiat entries by several months. Until Opel publishes a product plan, the safest expectation is only that any Agila would come after the programme’s initial launches, if it is approved.

What battery and range will the electric Agila have?
No reliable Agila-specific information has been published for battery capacity, motor output, charging speed, driving range, connector type or warranty. Citroën has also withheld final series figures for the 2CV concept. Battery and range claims circulating before an Opel announcement should therefore be treated as speculation.

Will the electric Opel Agila use the same battery as the Citroën 2CV?
