BYD has launched the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i plug-in-hybrid sedan in China. The two upper trims offer up to 220 km of CLTC electric-only range, while the entry version is rated at 140 km. Limited-time launch prices run from RMB 76,900 to RMB 97,900, each RMB 3,000 below its stated guide price. It is not a battery-electric car: a 1.5-liter petrol engine works with a 120-kW electric motor and either a 16.2-kWh or 24.3-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery.

All versions use BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system. A 1.5-liter petrol engine produces up to 74 kW, while the electric motor is rated at 120 kW. The battery is an LFP pack in one of two reported capacities:
- 16.2 kWh: associated with the 140-km CLTC configuration.
- 24.3 kWh: associated with the 220-km CLTC configuration.
Because it is a plug-in hybrid, the Qin Plus DM-i can drive on battery power for shorter trips and continue using petrol when the battery’s usable charge is low. The 220-km figure should therefore be read as a laboratory-cycle EV distance within a combined petrol-electric vehicle, rather than as a promise of 220 km in every season or driving situation.
How quickly does it charge, and how efficient is it?
Launch reports say charging from 30% to 80% can take as little as 20 minutes. That is a partial-charge claim, not a full-charge time, and the actual result depends on the charger, battery temperature and other conditions. Buyers arranging home or portable charging should verify the connector, voltage and China-market compatibility before purchasing equipment.
BYD claims a combined range of up to 2,290 km with a full fuel tank and full battery. It also quotes fuel consumption as low as 2.58 L/100 km under the NEDC cycle after the battery is depleted. Both figures are manufacturer or test-cycle claims; they are not guarantees of real-world consumption or distance. NEDC and CLTC results are not directly interchangeable with one another or with an owner’s driving record.

What are the Qin Plus DM-i’s dimensions and exterior changes?
The redesigned sedan measures 4,840 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,498 mm high, with a 2,800-mm wheelbase. Reports describe a new front end, a fastback-style roofline and full-width rear lamps. Island Blue is among the reported exterior colors.
For context, an outgoing 2026 database listing showed a 25.3-kWh battery, 210 km CLTC range and pricing of RMB 74,800 to RMB 94,800. The new car’s maximum electric range rises to 220 km, while its body dimensions and styling are revised. The battery capacities and prices are not a direct trim-for-trim comparison, so buyers should treat the older listing as model-year context rather than a like-for-like specification sheet.

What technology is inside the cabin?
The third-generation model introduces BYD’s DiLink 150 infotainment system. The dashboard has an 8.8-inch instrument display and a central touchscreen measuring either 10.1 or 12.8 inches, depending on configuration.
Is LiDAR driver assistance standard?
No. The LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B package, also called DiPilot 300 in some coverage, is optional equipment. Its listed functions include city navigation assistance, highway and expressway navigation assistance, and intelligent parking.

Since the package is not standard across the range, the exact trim availability, hardware specification and any activation requirements should be checked in the Chinese order documentation. The launch reports do not establish that every function is available on every trim or in every operating area.
How does it differ from the previous Qin Plus DM-i?
The clearest changes are the larger body, a maximum 220-km CLTC electric range, the refreshed interior and the availability of optional LiDAR-based assistance. The preceding second-generation model covered by an 11 February 2025 Xinhua report was priced at RMB 79,800 to RMB 103,800, used fifth-generation DM technology and claimed 2.93 L/100 km NEDC consumption after battery depletion, with a 2,055-km full-tank/full-charge range claim.

Those earlier figures came from a different model year and should not be used to infer an exact equipment, battery or performance delta for each new trim. The prior model was also reported in both plug-in-hybrid and battery-electric forms; the 27 October launch coverage concerns the DM-i plug-in-hybrid sedan.
Why is BYD pricing the new sedan aggressively?
Secondary sales figures cited by CnEVPost from ZhongAuto put Qin-family September 2026 sales at 23,472 units, down 65.27% year over year, and nine-month sales at 207,589, down 54.71%. Those numbers are a compiled secondary report rather than a directly opened company filing, but they provide context for the launch discount and equipment refresh.

Can buyers outside China order the new Qin Plus DM-i?
The cited launch reports confirm sales in China only. They do not announce an overseas launch, export price or foreign-market specification, so buyers outside China should not assume that a dealer can officially order this exact version.
