Yes—the production Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV is an electric full-size SUV with a peak output of 860 kW. Mercedes-Benz Canada converts that figure to 1,153 hp, while Mercedes-AMG’s global materials call it 1,169 hp; both describe the same top GT 63 model, so “1,150 hp” is a rounded headline rather than a separate specification.
This is also AMG’s first full-size SUV engineered entirely in-house from the ground up, using the dedicated AMG.EA electric architecture. The range includes the 1,153/1,169-hp GT 63, an 805-hp GT 55 and a 536-hp GT 53, combining supercar acceleration with full-size SUV seating and cargo space.

The GT SUV is not a conventional Mercedes-Benz SUV with an AMG powertrain added later. Mercedes-AMG says it is the company’s first full-size SUV developed entirely in Affalterbach, on the AMG.EA high-performance electric platform. A November 2024 announcement described development vehicles approaching initial testing; the 2026 production announcement identifies the finished vehicle as the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV.
Mercedes-AMG’s 2024 release described the project as its first in-house SUV in the company’s 57-year history. The 2026 production release calls it the first in 59 years. Those statements are dated descriptions made at different points in the company’s timeline, not conflicting claims about the vehicle.

How much horsepower does the AMG GT 63 SUV really have?
The GT 63’s peak output is 860 kW. The horsepower label changes by Mercedes’ regional materials:
| Model | Motor arrangement | Published peak output |
|---|---|---|
| GT 53 | Two synchronous motors | 536 hp (400 kW) |
| GT 55 | Three axial-flux motors | Up to 805 hp (600 kW) |
| GT 63 | Three axial-flux motors | 1,153 hp (860 kW) in Mercedes-Benz Canada materials; 1,169 hp (860 kW) on Mercedes-AMG’s global page |
Mercedes-Benz Canada also lists 530 kW, or 711 hp, of continuous output for the GT 63. That is a sustained-output rating, not the short-duration peak used in the headline figure.
The GT 63 and GT 55 use two High Performance Electric Drive Units containing three axial-flux motors. The GT 53 uses two synchronous motors. Because the same 860-kW figure is converted to different horsepower numbers in different markets, comparing the kilowatt rating avoids a unit-conversion argument.

How fast is the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV?
Mercedes-Benz quotes the GT 63 at 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and 0–200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. With the Driver’s Package, its quoted top speed is 270 km/h. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.
The chassis hardware is designed to make that output usable beyond a straight line:

How quickly does the AMG GT SUV charge?
The AMG High Performance Electric Battery uses an 800-volt electrical system and directly cooled cylindrical cells. Mercedes-Benz lists usable battery capacities of 106 kWh (18 modules) and 128 kWh (22 modules).
| Battery configuration | Maximum DC charging rate | WLTP range added in 10 minutes | Other published figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 106 kWh usable | Up to 600 kW | Up to 380 km | Not stated |
| 128 kWh usable | Up to 710 kW | Up to 450 km | 10–80% in about 12 minutes |
Mercedes-Benz says the larger battery configuration supports up to 700 km of WLTP range. The vehicle can also charge at 400-volt stations and supports NACS DC charging at 800-volt sites, subject to the charger, vehicle configuration and local-market equipment.

The 600- and 710-kW figures are charging-system ceilings. A vehicle will reach them only when the charging site, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions allow it. WLTP range and added-distance figures are laboratory-cycle results; real driving, weather, speed, payload and heating or air-conditioning use can produce different results.
What is the difference between the GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63 SUVs?
GT 53: the entry point
The GT 53 combines two synchronous motors for 536 hp (400 kW). It is the range’s lower-output model and the way into the AMG GT SUV family while retaining the full-size body and electric architecture.

The GT 55 moves to the three-axial-flux-motor layout and raises peak output to 805 hp (600 kW). Mercedes-AMG positions it between the GT 53 and GT 63, with chassis and control hardware varying by market and specification.
GT 63: the maximum-performance version
The GT 63 is the headline model, with 860 kW and the 2.5-second 0–100 km/h claim. Its emphasis is maximum repeatable performance, while the range as a whole keeps the seating, cargo access and long-distance brief expected of a full-size SUV.

AMGFORCE Sport+ adds an artificial emotional layer: Mercedes-AMG says it can reproduce recorded AMG V8 or six-cylinder sounds, simulated gear changes and seat-shaker effects in real time. When will the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV be available?
Mercedes-Benz Canada says 2028 AMG GT SUV models are planned for Canadian availability in summer 2027. That statement is specific to Canada and a planned model year. The cited official announcements do not establish one worldwide delivery date, final pricing for every country or dealer allocations, so buyers elsewhere need market-specific confirmation.
Before ordering, confirm the local GT 53, GT 55 or GT 63 model year, battery size, charging connector, standard equipment, option packages, pricing and delivery timing. Those details can differ even when the headline powertrain description is the same.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does WLTP range mean in everyday driving?
WLTP is a standardized laboratory driving cycle used for comparable vehicle ratings, not a guarantee of the distance available on a particular trip. High speed, cold weather, heavy loads, elevation changes and frequent cabin heating or cooling can all reduce real-world range.
Can the GT SUV use a 400-volt fast charger?
Yes. Mercedes-Benz says the 800-volt system can charge at 400-volt stations as well. That compatibility does not mean a 400-volt site will deliver the vehicle’s 600- or 710-kW maximum, because the station and vehicle operating conditions set the actual rate.
Does Mercedes-AMG offer a seven-seat GT SUV?
No seven-seat configuration is announced in the production information cited for this launch. The described cabin uses a three-seat rear bench, making the vehicle a five-seat SUV.
Why should buyers verify the battery pack before ordering?
Mercedes-Benz lists both 106-kWh and 128-kWh usable batteries, with different charging ceilings and 10-minute WLTP range additions. The published material does not map every pack to every trim and market, so the local order sheet is the authoritative specification.
