The RX was redesigned for 2023, so a pre-2023 used model is a different generation from a 2023-or-newer RX.
1. Identify the generation, model year and exact vehicle
The RX was redesigned for the 2023 model year, according to IIHS. That makes model year an important starting point when comparing used examples: pre-2023 vehicles and 2023-and-newer vehicles are from different generations.
For the 2026 U.S. RX 350, Lexus lists a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 275 horsepower, with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) available. Lexus lists a $52,775 starting price for the RX line, not a guaranteed price for every RX 350 trim or a dealer’s out-the-door price. When comparing listings, match the advertised year and trim to the vehicle identification number (VIN), title and odometer. Equipment and specifications can vary by year, trim and market; do not assume that a feature shown in a listing is standard on every RX 350.

2. Choose the drivetrain using the right fuel-economy figures
For the 2026 gas RX 350, Lexus lists FWD and AWD. The manufacturer’s combined fuel-economy figures are 25 mpg for FWD and 24 mpg for AWD. For a different model year, use that year’s figures rather than carrying current specifications over to an older vehicle.
The 2025 Lexus RX brochure lists the RX 350 turbocharged 2.4-liter engine at 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy is 22/29/25 mpg city/highway/combined for FWD, and 21/28/24 mpg for AWD. These are manufacturer-published estimates for the specified model year and configuration, not a promise of real-world mileage. Driving conditions and individual use can affect actual fuel economy.

Compare like with like: year, drivetrain and trim. AWD may be a priority for a buyer’s conditions, while the published estimates give a way to compare the configurations on paper; the figures alone do not establish which drivetrain is right for a particular driver.
3. Read crash-test results by test, not as a single safety label
The IIHS rating page covers 2023–2026 RX models and identifies a 2023 RX 350 4-door 4WD as the tested vehicle. IIHS reports Good results for the small-overlap front test and updated side test, but Poor in the updated moderate-overlap front test. In that moderate-overlap test, the rear-passenger chest result and rear-passenger restraints and dummy kinematics were rated Poor. Review the full IIHS rating and test details rather than treating any single category as a blanket verdict.

Ratings describe performance in specific tests; they are not an inspection of a used vehicle’s condition, nor do they establish the history or repair status of the car you are considering.
4. Check recalls for the specific VIN
A model-year recall search and a vehicle-specific VIN search answer different questions. NHTSA says its recall lookup identifies unrepaired recalls for a specific vehicle, while model-year searches show general records. NHTSA also cautions that recently announced recalls may not yet have all affected VINs identified. Run the VIN lookup close to purchase and ask the seller for documentation of completed recall repairs.

One example shows why not to generalize from a campaign: the Lexus/NHTSA-hosted FAQ for campaign 24V-482 identifies certain 2024 RX 350 vehicles produced from late March to early May 2024. It does not mean every 2024 RX 350 is affected. The FAQ gives a campaign-wide population of 11,418 vehicles; that figure is not the number of RX 350s alone.

Service history and inspection
Request maintenance records and invoices, then arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection and road test for a used RX. The available evidence does not establish a defensible year-by-year RX 350 reliability ranking, so a broad reputation claim cannot replace checking the actual vehicle’s service history and condition.

- Match the VIN, title, odometer and advertised model year.
- Review service records and have an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle.
- Use the model-level crash ratings as safety-test information, not as a substitute for inspecting the individual car.
Remaining warranty and certified-used status
LexusCare summarizes the new-vehicle limited warranty as four years or 50,000 miles. It also lists a ten-year or 150,000-mile hybrid battery warranty for Lexus hybrid models; that hybrid battery term is not coverage for the gas RX 350. Ask for written confirmation of the vehicle’s original in-service date, mileage and remaining coverage, and consult the governing warranty booklet. See Lexus warranty information.
If a seller advertises an RX as Lexus Certified, verify the status and applicable terms directly. Lexus’s LCertified information says its policy does not allow certification while applicable recalls or specified campaigns remain outstanding.
Towing equipment, if you need it
The 2025 RX brochure lists an optional RX 350 tow package with a hitch and a 3,500-pound towing capacity when additional equipment is fitted. That conditional figure is not a capacity to assume for every RX 350. Check the exact year and configuration, confirm the required equipment is installed, and verify the vehicle-specific limit before towing. A hitch receiver is not necessarily standard equipment, and an aftermarket listing is not proof of Lexus endorsement or compatibility.
