The Segway Ninebot MAX G3 is a well-equipped commuter scooter built for a comfortable ride, not easy carrying. Its 597 Wh battery, hydraulic suspension at both ends, disc brakes and self-sealing tires make it appealing for end-to-end trips, but its roughly 54 lb weight and bulky folded size are real drawbacks for stairs and transit transfers. It makes the most sense if you can store and charge it at ground level.
What the MAX G3 offers
The US MAX G3 combines a 597 Wh, 46.8 V battery with an 850 W nominal motor rated for 2,000 W maximum power. Its 11-inch self-sealing tubeless tires, front twin-tube and rear dual hydraulic shocks, and front and rear disc brakes are a substantial equipment package for a commuter scooter. The US manual also lists an IPX6 vehicle rating and a maximum payload of 286 lb. See Segway’s US MAX G3 manual for the model 051601U specifications.
The ride-quality case is supported by T3 reviewer Mark Knapp’s hands-on assessment. He praised the suspension, quick pickup after launch, lighting and range, and described it as suitable for commuting or recreational rides. He also found the throttle somewhat jerky with partial input and said electronic braking alone did not always bring the scooter to a full stop; those are observations from one reviewer, not a guarantee that every rider will experience the same behavior. T3’s review was published June 27, 2025.
How much range can you expect?
Range figures depend heavily on test conditions, so the manufacturer’s estimates and a rider’s real-world result should not be treated as equivalent. Segway’s US manual gives approximately 40 miles at maximum speed and approximately 50 miles in ECO mode. Its maximum-speed test specifies a full battery, a 165 lb load and pavement; actual distance changes with rider weight, battery state, wind, terrain and speed.

T3’s city ride provides a more grounded example, but it is still one test rather than a universal forecast. Knapp rode 12.7 miles on a full charge and measured 360 Wh used. Based on that ride, he estimated about 21 miles on a full charge for his 240 lb riding weight and city riding pattern. He noted that lighter riders and suburban or rural conditions could yield more. The two sets of figures describe different protocols and conditions, not a direct contradiction.
Is the MAX G3 too heavy to carry?
At approximately 54.2 lb in Segway’s US manual—and 54.4 lb on T3’s scale—the MAX G3 is a poor choice if you regularly need to carry a scooter upstairs or lift it onto transit. The manual lists dimensions of about 48 × 23.2 × 51.1 inches unfolded and 48 × 23.2 × 23.3 inches folded. Those measurements and its mass matter even when the scooter is folded: it is bulky as well as heavy.

That makes it better suited to a commute that begins and ends where the scooter can be rolled, parked and charged than to a train-plus-last-mile routine requiring frequent lifting. T3 specifically suggests a lighter NIU KQi Air X may be more sensible for riders who must carry a scooter upstairs, while the MAX G3 is the stronger choice for ride quality and power when frequent lifting is not part of the plan. The available reviews do not provide a like-for-like test that establishes one model as a universal winner.
Speed, charging and riding setup
For the US model, the manual lists a factory-default maximum speed of about 20 mph. The approximately 28 mph high-speed setting must be enabled in the Segway Mobility app. A scooter’s available setting does not establish that riding at that speed is legal on a particular road: rules vary by state and locality, so check the current requirements where you plan to ride.

Segway lists approximately 3.5 hours for single charging and 2.5 hours for dual charging in the US manual. The manual also gives a maximum climbing slope of about 30%. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise of the same result on every route or charging setup.
Check tire pressure regularly and keep it within the manual’s specified 42–48 psi range. Segway warns that underinflation can permanently damage tires, compromise safety, and overwork or overheat the motor.

MAX G3 versus MAX G3 Plus
The MAX G3 Plus is a separate model, not a trim level whose specifications should be assumed for the MAX G3. Tom’s Guide’s page update in September 2026 says the Plus adds rear turn signals, a 2,200 W motor and a 717 Wh battery. Those are Plus specifications; the US MAX G3 manual lists a 597 Wh battery and 2,000 W maximum motor power. Tom’s Guide reported the Plus at $1,499 and said it could be found around $1,199 in that update, but those are time-sensitive Plus prices, not a current price for the MAX G3. Tom’s Guide’s review and update provides that model distinction.

Choose the MAX G3 if comfort, suspension, substantial equipment and a capable end-to-end commute matter more than easy portability—and if you have a practical ground-level place to keep it. Look elsewhere if your routine involves carrying it regularly, especially on stairs, or if a scooter’s main job is to bridge a short transit gap. T3 reported a $1,499 launch MSRP and a $1,199 price at the time of its June 2025 review; those are historical prices, not a current offer. Check the Segway US store listing for current availability and pricing.

When comparing alternatives, put actual carry weight and folded dimensions alongside measured range, with rider weight, speed and terrain disclosed. Also compare suspension and tires, braking, throttle response, lighting, speed settings and local legality, charging time, storage needs, and any separately sold battery cost. Segway’s international MAX G3 page describes a 65 km claim at 25 km/h and up to 105 km with an external battery sold separately; those international figures should not be mixed with US manual figures without accounting for the different market and test conditions.
