To watch Formula 1 live, first identify the official broadcaster for your country and the specific event. Rights are territorial and can change by season. Formula 1’s broadcast directory is the best starting point, followed by the broadcaster’s local event listing for session times and coverage.
Once you know where to watch, the weekend is easy to follow: practice helps teams set up the cars, qualifying determines the starting order, a Sprint may add a separate Saturday race, and the Grand Prix is the main Sunday event. The exact order and local start times depend on the venue.

There is no single worldwide subscription that guarantees the same Formula 1 coverage everywhere. Television and streaming rights are negotiated by territory, and a service that carries every session in one country may offer only highlights—or be unavailable—in another.

1. Check Formula 1’s territory list
Begin with Formula 1’s official broadcast-information page. Select your country or region to see the named rights holder, then open that broadcaster’s schedule for the Grand Prix you want to watch. Local listings are important because a broadcaster may put practice, qualifying, a Sprint and the race on different channels or platforms.
The directory also identifies territories where F1 TV is available. Availability, live-session scope and plan conditions still need to be confirmed for your resident country before you subscribe. Treat the directory as the starting point for a legal, current answer, not as a guarantee that every listed service carries every session.
2. Confirm the event, not just the season
Coverage can vary by event. Check the listing for the particular Grand Prix, including whether practice is live, whether a Sprint is scheduled, and whether any sessions are offered as highlights rather than a live feed. Do not assume that a service’s description for one country applies to another.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Look for the event date, local time zone, channel or app, and the exact label used for each session. “Qualifying” can mean Saturday qualifying for the Grand Prix, while “Sprint Qualifying” is a separate Friday session on a Sprint weekend. A listing that shows only “race” may not include practice or qualifying.
3. Use the broadcaster’s own schedule as the final check
Rights announcements describe an agreement, but the broadcaster’s event page tells you how that agreement is delivered. It may identify a television channel, a streaming login, a free-to-air window or a highlights programme. Check shortly before the weekend because channel assignments and local start times can be updated.
F1 TV Pro: the direct Formula 1 option
F1 TV Pro is Formula 1’s live service in selected countries. Its listed features include live sessions, onboard camera views, replays, highlights, shows and live timing. Formula 1’s 2026 announcement says F1 TV offers live coverage of every Grand Prix, Sprint, qualifying and practice session, but that statement does not make Pro universally available. Check the service page for your location before purchasing.
What the service is useful for
- Full session access: In eligible territories, Pro is designed for live practice, qualifying, Sprint and Grand Prix coverage.
- Multiple viewpoints: Onboard feeds can show a driver’s steering, track position and traffic in a way the main television feed cannot.
- Timing information: Live timing helps you follow sector times, gaps and pit-stop strategies while the video feed is running.
- Catch-up viewing: Replays and highlights are useful when a session starts at an inconvenient local time.
- Formula 1-specific presentation: The service combines live video with the championship’s own shows and timing tools rather than limiting you to a single television feed.
Supported viewing platforms
F1 TV’s subscription information lists web browsers, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, Roku and Chromecast as viewing options. A compatible Amazon Fire TV device can therefore be used to put the service on a television, but Formula 1 does not require a particular device model on its subscription information page.

If you travel or move, check the service’s current rules rather than assuming the same access will continue. Do not buy a plan on the expectation that a different country’s catalogue or rights will follow you indefinitely.
What to compare before choosing F1 TV
Confirm that the plan offered in your location includes live sessions rather than only replays or highlights. Then check the supported device you actually intend to use, whether live timing and onboard feeds are included, and how the service handles a session that has already finished. The subscription page is the appropriate place to verify current plan terms and price for your country; a price quoted in another territory is not a reliable comparison.
United States: the announced 2026 arrangement
For the 2026 season, Formula 1 announced Apple TV as the new exclusive United States home of F1. The announcement says Apple TV subscribers can watch practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions and Grand Prix sessions throughout the season.
This is a 2026 United States arrangement, not a global rule or a promise that the same provider will hold rights permanently. Viewers in the United States should still check the current Apple TV listing for the event they intend to watch, while viewers elsewhere should use the territory directory for their own country.
The arrangement also illustrates why season and location belong in every viewing answer. “Apple TV carries F1” is incomplete without “in the United States during 2026.” A viewer in another country should not subscribe on the assumption that the US service is available there or that it replaces the local rights holder.

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Italy in 2026
Formula 1’s May 2026 announcement says Sky continues to show every practice, qualifying session, Sprint and Grand Prix on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and on Sky Sport in Italy. The announcement also names NOW as an access platform.
- The United Kingdom and Ireland agreement is announced as running through the 2034 season.
- The Italy agreement is announced as running through the 2032 season.
- UK free-to-air coverage includes highlights and live coverage of the British Grand Prix, subject to the event listing.
- Italy’s TV8 is identified for a live Italian Grand Prix, with details to be checked in local listings.
Those rights statements describe the announced arrangements; they do not replace the broadcaster’s schedule for a particular weekend. Sky, NOW, free-to-air highlights and the named event broadcasts can have different presentation, login and timing details, so verify the listing before you plan around one.
How the Formula 1 race weekend works
A standard weekend is built around three questions: how teams prepare the cars, who starts where, and who wins the Grand Prix. Practice supplies preparation time, qualifying sets the starting order and the Grand Prix awards the main result.
Free practice
Free practice sessions let drivers and engineers work on setup, tyres, fuel loads and the circuit. Teams use the running to learn how the car behaves over a long stint and how quickly it can produce a lap in qualifying trim. Practice times can be informative, but they do not determine the Grand Prix grid by themselves.
For a viewer, practice is the session that provides context. A driver may spend part of it evaluating setup changes or longer runs instead of chasing the fastest lap. A low position on the practice timing screen is therefore not automatically a forecast of the race result. Watch for how consistently a car runs, whether both drivers complete their programmes and how conditions change during the session.
Qualifying
Grand Prix qualifying determines the starting order for the main race. Drivers run for lap time under a session format that progressively narrows the field. The fastest competitive lap is valuable, but teams also consider tyre preparation, traffic and the effect of track evolution. The event’s official timetable is the authority for the qualifying start time.
Qualifying is important even when the race is expected to include overtaking. Starting position influences the first-corner risk, the ability to control the pace and the strategy choices available to a team. A session can also be interrupted or reshaped by traffic, weather or a red flag, which is why watching the complete session is more informative than checking the final grid later.

The Grand Prix
The Grand Prix is the principal race, normally held on Sunday. Drivers complete the scheduled race distance while teams manage tyres, fuel, pit stops, weather and traffic. The winner is the driver who completes the race distance first under the applicable regulations; the final classification can also be affected by penalties.
During the race, the broadcast may show the running order, gaps, pit-stop choices and tyre information. The driver in front on one lap is not necessarily in the best strategic position, because a car that has stopped earlier or later may have a different tyre life and remaining pit-stop requirement. The final result is confirmed by the classification, not merely by a mid-race order.
How to read a normal weekend schedule
On a traditional weekend, find the practice entries first, then the Grand Prix qualifying entry and finally the Sunday Grand Prix. The exact number and placement of practice sessions should come from the event’s official timetable. Treat the published local times as the authority rather than converting a generic schedule from another circuit.
What changes on a Sprint weekend
On a 2026 Sprint weekend, Formula 1’s announced sequence is:

- Friday: Free Practice 1, followed by Sprint Qualifying.
- Saturday: The Sprint, followed by Grand Prix qualifying.
- Sunday: The Grand Prix.
This is the order announced for Sprint events, not a universal set of clock times. Circuit location, local time zone and the event’s official timetable determine when each session begins.

Friday Free Practice 1
Because Sprint Qualifying follows immediately on Friday, teams have less practice running before a competitive session than on a traditional weekend. Engineers must prioritize baseline setup, tyre understanding and reliability checks during the available running.
Friday Sprint Qualifying
Sprint Qualifying establishes the starting order for Saturday’s Sprint. It is separate from Grand Prix qualifying, which takes place on Saturday and sets the grid for Sunday’s race.
When searching a broadcaster’s schedule, use the full name if possible. A listing that says “qualifying” without identifying the race can be ambiguous on a Sprint weekend. Friday’s session belongs to the Sprint; Saturday’s belongs to the Grand Prix.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Saturday Sprint
The Sprint is a short race that provides competitive action before the Grand Prix. Its result does not replace Saturday’s later Grand Prix qualifying; the two sessions serve different races and therefore produce different starting orders.
The Sprint is worth watching in its own right because it is a separate live race, not an extended practice session. It can change the story of the weekend, but it does not remove the need for the later qualifying session that sets Sunday’s grid.
Saturday Grand Prix qualifying
Saturday qualifying determines where drivers line up for Sunday’s Grand Prix. A strong Sprint result cannot be treated as a substitute for this session. The starting order for Sunday comes from the qualifying session designated for the Grand Prix, even though the Sprint has already taken place.
Sunday Grand Prix
The weekend concludes with the main race. When planning to watch, allow for the Sprint and both qualifying sessions on separate days rather than looking only for a single Sunday broadcast. If you want the complete competitive narrative, calendar reminders should cover Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The 2026 Sprint calendar context
Formula 1’s announcement for the 2026 calendar identifies six Sprint venues and describes the Sprint format as entering its sixth year. Those figures refer to the announced 2026 calendar and format; use the official event schedule to identify which individual weekends include a Sprint.
Do not infer a Sprint from a venue’s history or from an old calendar. The event page for the current season tells you whether that weekend uses the Sprint sequence and gives the applicable local times.
How to choose between viewing options
Once you have identified the legal services available in your territory, compare them on the things that change your viewing experience—not on a price that may expire or differ by country.
| Decision point | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Territorial eligibility | Whether the service is offered to residents of your country and whether the subscription country must match your residence. |
| Live session scope | Whether practice, Sprint Qualifying, the Sprint, Grand Prix qualifying and the Grand Prix are live, or whether some are replay or highlights only. |
| Features | Onboard feeds, live timing, replays, highlights and additional shows. |
| Devices | Support for your browser, phone, tablet, streaming stick or television platform. F1 TV lists web, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, Roku and Chromecast. |
| Local schedule | The start time, channel or app for the particular Grand Prix, including any free-to-air or highlights windows. |
| Access conditions | Whether an account, subscription tier or location check is required, and whether the plan remains valid when you travel. |
Current prices are not established uniformly across territories; check the service page for your country before committing. A lower advertised price is not a useful saving if it omits live qualifying, requires a different resident country or cannot be used on your preferred television platform.
When a television broadcaster may be the better fit
A local broadcaster can be the simplest choice when it carries every session you want and already works with your television package or streaming login. Its event listing may also provide local commentary and clearly labeled times. Confirm whether the package includes practice, Sprint sessions and qualifying instead of assuming that a race-focused channel includes the complete weekend.

When F1 TV may be the better fit
F1 TV can be attractive in an eligible territory if you want onboard views, live timing, replays and Formula 1’s own shows in one service. It is not automatically the best option everywhere: local rights can limit availability, and the plan must match both your resident country and subscription country.
A practical setup checklist
- Name the event: Decide which Grand Prix or Sprint weekend you want to follow.
- Identify your territory: Use your actual viewing location and resident country, not the country of the circuit.
- Open the official broadcast directory: Find the local rights holder and any listed F1 TV availability.
- Read the event listing: Confirm which sessions are live, where they appear and the local start times.
- Check your devices: Verify that the chosen service works on your browser, mobile device or television platform. For F1 TV, listed options include web, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, Roku and Chromecast.
- Mark every session: On a standard weekend, include practice, qualifying and Sunday’s Grand Prix. On a Sprint weekend, add Friday Sprint Qualifying and Saturday’s Sprint.
- Test access before the session: Sign in, update the app if necessary and confirm that your plan is valid for your resident country.
- Save the replay route: If you cannot watch live, note where the service places its replay and highlights so you do not rely on an unofficial clip.
- Recheck on race week: Verify the channel, app and local time again because event listings can be revised.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming one service works worldwide
Broadcast rights are territorial. A friend’s provider, a guide written for another country or an old season’s arrangement may not apply to you. Start with the current territory list.
Confusing Sprint Qualifying with Grand Prix qualifying
On a Sprint weekend, Friday Sprint Qualifying sets the Sprint grid, while Saturday qualifying sets the Grand Prix grid. They are different sessions with different consequences.

Practice and qualifying may be decisive for understanding setup and starting position, and the Sprint adds a separate race. Read the full event schedule rather than searching only for the Grand Prix.
Treating a rights announcement as a clock-time schedule
Announcements identify providers and coverage arrangements; they do not establish the local start time for every event. Use the official timetable for the circuit and date.
Buying a device before checking service support
Choose the broadcaster or streaming service first, then verify compatible hardware. F1 TV lists several platforms, and its information does not require a particular Amazon Fire TV model.
Comparing prices without comparing what is live
A price comparison is meaningless if one option supplies every session live and another supplies only highlights. Compare territorial eligibility, session scope, features, devices and the local schedule first. Verify current prices directly with the service you can legally use.

Using the circuit’s country instead of your own
Rights are based on the viewer’s territory. Watching a race held in Italy does not automatically make an Italian service available to a viewer elsewhere. Enter your own country in the Formula 1 directory and use that result.

The Bottom Line
Start with your country, not the circuit: use Formula 1’s territory directory, confirm the event listing and verify which sessions are live. A standard weekend centers on practice, Grand Prix qualifying and Sunday’s race; a 2026 Sprint weekend adds Friday Sprint Qualifying and Saturday’s Sprint before Saturday Grand Prix qualifying. F1 TV Pro, Apple TV in the United States and Sky/NOW in the named UK, Ireland and Italy arrangements are territory-specific, so check current eligibility, features, devices and local times before you subscribe.
