The 2025 Maverick Owner’s Manual documents the Remote Start Setup control, while Ford’s app controls depend on an eligible vehicle with an activated modem. If the truck still starts or wakes after every authorized remote-start path is disabled, Ford’s published material does not identify one universal cause; document the symptom and have Ford app support or a dealer diagnose that specific vehicle.

First determine what is actually happening
Owners often describe several different events as a Maverick “starting by itself” or “waking up.” Before changing settings, observe the truck closely and record the model year, time, location, and what you can verify.

Do not leave the vehicle unattended while trying to identify the symptom. A running engine can create an exhaust hazard, and Ford’s 2025 Maverick manual says remote start can power the truck’s 12-volt outlets.

Turn off Remote Start in the Maverick
2025 Maverick: use Remote Start Setup
Ford’s 2025 Maverick Owner’s Manual (edition dated July 2024) describes a Remote Start Setup menu in the vehicle’s information display. Open the information display settings, select Remote Start Setup, and set the remote-start feature to Off. Confirm the setting before leaving the menu.
Ford does not publish one universal screen path for every Maverick configuration in the material available here. Your display may use different wording or place the setting under a vehicle or convenience category. Use the year-specific manual shown on Ford’s owner-information site if the label is not where expected. Do not confuse the Remote Start setting with automatic climate controls: changing cabin temperature does not disable the command that starts the engine.
Earlier model years: verify the year-specific menu
The 2024 Maverick documentation confirms that remote starting is supported, but menu names and equipment can differ from the 2025 truck. Select the manual for your model year and search for Remote Start, Remote Start Setup, or Remotely Starting and Stopping the Vehicle. Ford’s 2024 Maverick Owner’s Manual section on remotely starting and stopping the vehicle is the appropriate reference for that year.
If the setting is already off, do not keep toggling it as a diagnostic substitute. Move to the connected-app and key-fob checks below, then escalate an unexplained event.
Know when Ford will reject a remote-start request
Turning Remote Start off is the cleanest way to prevent an authorized remote-start command. When the feature is enabled, the 2025 manual lists conditions that prevent a remote start:

- Remote Start is disabled in the vehicle settings.
- The hood is open.
- The transmission is not in Park.
- The alarm horn is sounding.
- The vehicle is already on.
These are operating conditions, not a complete fault diagnosis. For example, a hood switch or alarm condition can block a command, but the list does not establish why a truck would wake, display a status, or run unexpectedly. Treat a rejected command and an unrequested engine start as separate observations.
Remove or restrict Ford app remote access
Confirm whether the app can control this Maverick
Ford says app remote functions require an eligible vehicle with an activated modem connected to the Ford app. Model year, trim, and installed equipment determine which controls appear. Ford’s Ford App remote-features page explains that availability is not identical across all vehicles.

If another authorized account, household member, or previously paired phone can issue commands, include that possibility in your check. A notification by itself is not proof that the engine started; compare it with the truck’s actual condition.
Disable Vehicle Connectivity
Ford identifies disabling Vehicle Connectivity as one way to disconnect remote access. In the truck’s connectivity or privacy controls, turn that setting off if it is available for your vehicle. The wording and location vary by equipment, so follow the model-year manual or the in-app instructions.
Disabling connectivity can remove legitimate app functions, including status and remote commands. Record the original setting before changing it so you can restore the feature later if desired.

Turn off vehicle location sharing
Ford also lists turning off vehicle location sharing as a way to disconnect remote access. Use the privacy or location-sharing control associated with the vehicle and app account. This is a broader privacy change than merely disabling a start command, so make sure every authorized driver understands the consequence.

Consider a vehicle factory reset only with guidance
Ford lists a vehicle factory reset among the ways to disconnect remote access. A factory reset changes vehicle settings and may require account or device setup again. It should not be your first troubleshooting step for a single unexplained wake event.
- Read the reset warning on the Maverick’s screen and in the correct owner’s manual.
- Record user preferences, paired devices, and any settings you will need to restore.
- Ask Ford app support or a Ford dealer whether a reset is appropriate for your model year and symptom.
- Perform the reset only after you understand which settings and connections will be removed.
Ford’s Ford App Remote Features support page provides additional guidance on remote access and connectivity controls. Controls can differ by market; the United States and other regions may not expose identical options.
Check every authorized remote-start source
The Ford app
The 2024 Maverick manual says the Ford app can remotely start the vehicle. After an app remote start, the truck remains secured, and a valid key is required to switch it on and drive. That security behavior does not make an unrequested start harmless: the engine can still run while the vehicle is unattended.
After turning off Remote Start in the truck, attempt no further remote commands and watch whether the app reports a new start. If the app shows a command you did not issue, change the account password, review authorized users, and contact Ford app support through Ford’s official support channel. Do not assume that reinstalling the phone app alone revokes vehicle authorization.

A supported key fob
Ford’s general instructions cover remote start from a supported key fob as well as from the app. Check every fob that can operate the Maverick, including one kept by another driver. Store fobs where accidental button presses are unlikely, and inspect whether a button is being held down or pressed inside a pocket or bag.
Use the exact remote-start sequence printed in your key-fob instructions or the year-specific owner’s manual. Ford’s remote-start instructions explain that supported commands can come from the app or key fob, but equipment and market availability affect what your Maverick supports.
Other authorized accounts and devices
Ask whether a family member, fleet administrator, dealer-installed system, or second phone is linked to the truck. Remove access only through documented Ford account and vehicle controls. Do not install an aftermarket disablement device, cover, or signal-blocking product as a substitute for diagnosis; the available Ford documentation does not establish that any such product solves an unexplained Maverick wake event.

Ford’s 2025 Maverick Owner’s Manual states: Do not start the engine in a closed garage or in other enclosed areas. Exhaust fumes are toxic.
Perform remote-start checks outdoors, away from doors, windows, and other enclosed spaces. Ford’s general guidance likewise recommends using remote start only outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
The same manual warns: Do not keep electrical devices plugged in the power outlet whenever the device is not in use. Power outlets power up during remote start.
Unplug chargers, heaters, compressors, and other electrical devices before testing or parking the truck. If the engine starts unexpectedly, move people away from exhaust and stop the vehicle using the normal procedure described in the owner’s manual.

If the Maverick still wakes or starts after Remote Start is off
Once Remote Start is disabled, Ford app access is disconnected, and every supported key-fob source has been checked, the remaining symptom is not explained by the documented remote-start settings alone. Ford’s published material does not identify a single universal cause for a truck that continues to wake or run under those circumstances.
Prepare a useful report
Give Ford app support or a dealer facts that let them separate a command from a vehicle event:
- Model year, trim, powertrain, and market where the Maverick is registered.
- Whether the engine was running, or only the displays, lights, locks, or app status changed.
- Exact date and time, duration, and whether the event repeated.
- Whether the truck was in Park, whether the hood and doors were closed, and whether the alarm was active.
- Remote Start setting, Vehicle Connectivity status, location-sharing status, and whether a factory reset was performed.
- Which phones, Ford accounts, and key fobs are authorized.
- Screenshots of app notifications and a short video of the symptom when it is safe to record.
Do not erase the app account or reset every setting before capturing this information; doing so can remove evidence that support staff need.
Contact Ford app support for account or connectivity questions
If the app shows commands you did not send, or if you cannot determine which account has access, contact Ford through its app-support channels. Ford’s official Ford App page explains the connectivity requirements and available remote features. Tell support that Remote Start is disabled in the vehicle and describe whether the observed event was an engine start or only a wake notification.
Book dealer diagnosis for a vehicle-specific event
A Ford dealer can inspect the Maverick using the model-year service information and the vehicle’s stored data. Ask for diagnosis of the exact symptom rather than requesting a generic “remote-start fix.” If the truck never actually started and only electronics woke, say that explicitly; it directs the technician toward a different investigation than an engine that ran.
A practical decision path
- Observe safely. Confirm engine operation versus lights, displays, locks, or an app notification.
- Record the year and equipment. Menu paths and Ford app controls vary by model year and installed modem.
- Disable Remote Start Setup. Use the information display and confirm the setting is Off.
- Disconnect app access if needed. Review Vehicle Connectivity, location sharing, and authorized accounts. Use a factory reset only with Ford guidance.
- Check key fobs. Identify every supported fob and rule out accidental or unauthorized commands.
- Test outdoors only. Keep electrical devices out of power outlets during remote-start testing.
- Escalate persistent symptoms. Provide Ford app support or a dealer with the exact event, timestamps, settings, and model-year information.
This sequence prevents a common mistake: treating every electronic wake-up as a remote start, or assuming that one setting can explain every unexpected activation.
The Bottom Line
Disable Remote Start in the Maverick’s information display, disconnect Ford app access when necessary, and check every authorized key fob. If the truck still starts or wakes, separate the exact symptom from a confirmed remote start and have Ford app support or a dealer diagnose the vehicle for its model year and equipment.
