These figures cannot simply be added together. The dealer article is a broad service estimate, while the catalog entry is a parts listing. Neither establishes a universal installed price for every CR-V Hybrid year or trim.
The two numbers answer different questions. Do not treat the displayed price as a do-it-yourself shopping recommendation. Honda’s 2026 owner manual recommends a genuine Honda high-voltage assembly for an out-of-warranty replacement and warns of safety risks associated with non-genuine designs. A battery sold separately also does not tell you whether a shop will accept customer-supplied parts or provide labor coverage for them.

Warranty coverage you should check before paying
Honda’s 2025 U.S. warranty booklet states that high-voltage battery capacity coverage lasts 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The booklet also says gradual capacity loss is expected and excluded, while degradation greater than normal may be covered subject to the applicable warranty limits.
Coverage depends on the correct warranty terms for the vehicle, its in-service date, mileage, location and any exclusions. Have the dealer or Honda confirm eligibility using the vehicle identification number (VIN) before authorizing a paid replacement. Do not assume that reduced electric assist automatically proves a covered defect.

Capacity coverage is not the same as a promise that the battery will perform like new for eight years. Honda specifically describes gradual capacity loss as expected. The key question is whether the measured degradation or diagnosed defect exceeds the warranty’s normal-loss standard and meets the applicable terms for that vehicle.

Certain affected 2023 CR-V Hybrid vehicles were subject to a recall notice that promised free high-voltage battery replacement. This is not general coverage for every 2023 CR-V Hybrid or every battery problem. Check the VIN with Honda or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to determine whether the vehicle is included and whether the remedy remains available.
Recall status is separate from the normal warranty. Ask for the campaign number, the remedy description and confirmation that the proposed work is being performed under the recall rather than billed as customer-pay service. If a paid estimate was prepared before the VIN check, ask the service department to reclassify the work if the recall applies.
How to get a dependable replacement estimate
- Record the vehicle details. Have the VIN, model year, mileage, trim and in-service date ready. Note warning messages, changes in fuel economy, reduced electric operation or other symptoms without assuming the battery is the cause.
- Request a hybrid-system diagnosis. Ask the provider to identify the tested fault and state whether the recommendation is to replace the complete high-voltage assembly or another component.
- Check coverage first. Request a warranty and recall eligibility check before accepting a customer-pay estimate.
- Obtain a written dealer estimate. Require separate lines for diagnosis, battery pack, labor, additional work, taxes or fees, disposal and parts-and-labor warranty.
- Obtain a written independent estimate. Use a shop that specifically performs high-voltage hybrid work. Ask for the technician’s qualification, equipment capability, battery source and exact warranty terms.
- Make the estimates comparable. Ensure both quotes cover the same component, labor scope, tests and charges. A battery-only price is not comparable with an installed total.
- Verify the part and VIN fitment. Have the provider identify the proposed part number and whether the assembly is genuine Honda, remanufactured or another source.
- Review the warranty in writing. Confirm who pays labor if the replacement part fails and whether the warranty is limited by mileage, time or installation location.
- Authorize only after clarification. Ask what happens if diagnosis finds a different failed component or additional damage, and require approval before extra work is performed.
Documents to keep
Save the diagnostic report, both estimates, the final invoice, the part number, warranty document and any recall or warranty claim number. These records make it easier to challenge an incorrect charge, obtain warranty service or prove which assembly was installed. If the vehicle is sold later, the documentation also distinguishes a verified replacement from an unsupported parts listing.
Honda’s warning about non-genuine high-voltage assemblies
Honda’s 2026 CR-V Hybrid owner manual says: “If you ever need to replace your vehicle’s high voltage battery assembly outside of warranty coverage, we highly recommend that you only use a genuine Honda high-voltage battery assembly.” It warns that non-genuine assemblies may not have been designed, engineered and manufactured in the same way and that installation could result in overcharging, fires, loss of power or other conditions that increase the likelihood of a crash or injury.
This does not by itself establish that every non-genuine assembly will fail. It does mean the part source and safety design should be explicit in any independent-shop quote. Honda also warns owners not to modify or attempt to repair the high-voltage hybrid system themselves.
For that reason, a lower quote should not be evaluated on price alone. Confirm that the shop has the appropriate high-voltage isolation procedures, equipment and trained personnel, and ask who assumes responsibility if the battery does not meet the vehicle’s specifications.

Why diagnosis matters before replacing the pack
A warning light, reduced fuel economy or less frequent engine-off driving does not, by itself, identify the failed component. The shop should diagnose the high-voltage system and document why a complete battery assembly is recommended. Do not authorize a pack based solely on a generic code description, an online symptom list or a parts listing. High-voltage components require appropriate isolation procedures, tools and training.
