Google Maps can now let signed-in drivers report and confirm road incidents from a compatible Android Auto car display. The feature adds a dashboard-based Report control for hazards such as crashes, traffic jams, construction, lane closures, and speed cameras. However, it is not guaranteed to appear in every vehicle: availability depends on Android Auto compatibility, your Google account, regional support, and the amount of usable space on the car’s screen.
What changed with Google Maps on Android Auto?
Google Maps has supported crowdsourced road-incident reports on phones for years. Drivers could report problems including crashes, speed traps, traffic slowdowns, construction, lane closures, disabled vehicles, and objects in the road. The important change is that the reporting control has now moved into the in-car Android Auto experience.

Google announced the wider expansion on July 31, 2024, covering Android and iOS devices, cars with Google built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The Android Auto feature became broadly visible in late September 2024. On supported displays, Google Maps shows a triangular hazard button below the compass. Tapping it opens the available incident categories.
This closes a significant gap between the phone version of Google Maps and the dashboard version. Drivers no longer need to pick up the phone simply to submit a report—but the feature remains subject to the same safety and legal limits as any other interaction with an infotainment screen.

How to report an incident from Android Auto
- Connect a compatible Android phone to a compatible vehicle or aftermarket stereo running Android Auto.
- Make sure you are signed in to the Google account used by Google Maps.
- Open Google Maps on the vehicle’s infotainment display.
- Start navigation, or open Maps outside active navigation if your display supports that mode.
- Tap Report. On many layouts, this appears as a triangular hazard icon below the compass.
- Select the incident that matches what you are seeing.
The exact choices can vary by country. Google’s current documented categories include:
- Crash
- Slowdown or traffic jam
- Mobile speed camera
- Police
- Construction
- Lane closure
- Object on road
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
Not every category is available everywhere. In particular, reports involving police or speed cameras may be restricted by local rules or by Google’s country-specific implementation. Do not assume that a category shown in another country will be present in your vehicle.
How to confirm another driver’s report
Google Maps may show an incident alert as you approach the reported location. Depending on your alert settings, the car may also provide an audible warning.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When you reach the alert, Maps can ask whether the incident is still present. Tap Yes if it remains relevant or No if it has cleared or is not accurate. These confirmations help Google decide whether an alert should remain visible.
Reports are crowdsourced, so they are not guaranteed to be correct, complete, or current. Google describes reports as anonymous and says they may be retained without being associated with the contributor’s account. Treat them as supplementary information—not as a replacement for road signs, official emergency notices, or your own observation of traffic conditions.

Why the Report button may be missing
A missing button does not necessarily mean that Google removed the feature. There are several possible explanations.
1. Your display may not support reporting
Google says that not all car displays are compatible with incident reporting. Some displays may allow you to vote on existing reports while not exposing the control for creating a new report.
Compatibility is determined by the vehicle or stereo, the Android Auto implementation, and the display configuration. Check the vehicle manufacturer’s Android Auto documentation if you cannot find the control.
2. The screen may be too wide and too short
Android Auto does not use screen width alone to decide which controls fit. Independent reporting found that the hazard button can disappear when a dashboard layout does not provide enough vertical space for the full set of Google Maps controls.
That means two vehicles using the same phone, Google account, and Maps version can show different controls. A large panoramic display may still have insufficient usable height, particularly when the dashboard uses a wide, short aspect ratio.

3. You may not be signed in
Google’s Android Auto documentation says that users must be signed in to a Google account to use the incident-reporting function. Check the account shown in Google Maps and Android Auto before treating the missing control as a compatibility problem.
4. The rollout and interface may differ
The feature was announced before it appeared broadly, and the rollout was gradual. Controls can also move as Android Auto’s interface changes. A Google Android Auto Community response from December 1, 2025, said that incident reporting was supported on small-vehicle displays for logged-in users, while noting that the control had moved into the Android Auto interface. Because that was a community-support statement rather than the primary help page, it should not be read as a guarantee that every vehicle will expose the button in the same place.
Android Auto connection requirements
Incident reporting is not a separate dashboard app that automatically works in any car. The practical requirements form a chain:
- A compatible Android phone.
- A vehicle or aftermarket stereo that supports Android Auto.
- A working wired or wireless Android Auto connection.
- A supported Google Maps and Android Auto implementation.
- A Google account signed in to the service.
- A vehicle display layout that exposes the reporting control.
Android Auto can connect by USB or wirelessly, but wireless operation requires a vehicle or stereo that supports wireless Android Auto. For a wired setup, Google instructs users to connect the phone to the vehicle’s USB port with a USB cable.
If you already have factory-wired Android Auto and only want wireless convenience, an optional wireless Android Auto adapter may convert a compatible wired connection to wireless. It does not add incident reporting to an incompatible display or unlock categories that are unavailable in your country.

What to do if Android Auto itself is unreliable
Before troubleshooting the Maps button, make sure Android Auto is connecting normally:
- Confirm that your vehicle or stereo is listed as Android Auto-compatible.
- Install available updates for Google Maps, Google Play services, and Android Auto-related components.
- If using a cable, reconnect the phone firmly and try a known-good data cable rather than a charge-only cable.
- Test a wired connection if your vehicle supports it, or test wireless only if the vehicle supports wireless Android Auto.
- Make sure Google Maps is the active navigation app on the car display.
- Sign in to Google Maps and Android Auto with the same Google account.
- Restart the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system.
- Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information, especially if the vehicle uses an aftermarket stereo.
A USB cable for Android Auto can be useful when the existing cable causes intermittent disconnections, but changing the cable will not change Google Maps feature availability. It only addresses the connection layer.
For a vehicle without a compatible factory infotainment system, an Android Auto-compatible aftermarket head unit may be an option. Verify vehicle fitment, wiring, steering-wheel-control support, display dimensions, and manufacturer compatibility before buying. Replacing the stereo is a hardware upgrade, not a guaranteed way to obtain every Google Maps feature.

Moving the control to the dashboard reduces the need to handle a phone, but it does not eliminate distraction. Google specifically advises users to report only when it is safe, pay attention to road and traffic conditions, and obey applicable laws.

Local law also matters. The legality of displaying or reporting speed-camera, police, or other enforcement-related information differs by jurisdiction. Google’s inclusion of a category does not establish that using it is lawful in every location.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Google Maps incident reporting available on every Android Auto screen?
No. Google documents the feature for compatible car displays, but availability can vary by vehicle, stereo, country, account status, and screen layout. Some wide, short displays may not have enough vertical space to show the Report control.
Do I need to be signed in to use Report on Android Auto?
Yes. Google’s Android Auto documentation says that users must be signed in to a Google account to access incident reporting.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can I report a speed camera or police presence everywhere?
No. Incident categories vary by country, and local laws may restrict the use or display of enforcement-related information. Do not treat the presence of a category in Google Maps as legal advice.
Will a wireless Android Auto adapter make incident reporting available?
Not by itself. An adapter may provide wireless convenience for a vehicle that already supports compatible wired Android Auto, but it cannot add Android Auto or force Google Maps’ Report button onto an unsupported display.
Are Google Maps incident reports always accurate?
No. They are crowdsourced alerts that can be outdated or incorrect. Confirm them carefully and prioritize road signs, official warnings, and current traffic conditions.
The Bottom Line
Google Maps’ Android Auto incident reporting is now a genuine dashboard feature: signed-in drivers can report hazards and confirm existing alerts without opening the phone app. But “available” does not mean universal. Vehicle compatibility, regional categories, Android Auto updates, account status, and especially screen geometry determine what appears. Use it only when safe, and treat every crowdsourced alert as supplemental information rather than a substitute for attentive driving.
