Reports published October 2, 2026 say Lewis Hamilton was warned for impeding Gabriel Bortoleto during practice and Ferrari was fined €10,000. The event is not clear: gp.news labels its report as Bahrain, while Grandprix.com places the incident at Sepang. The FIA decision for this incident was not available in the sources reviewed, so the fine, warning and location should be treated as reported rather than confirmed.
What the reports say happened
gp.news reports that Hamilton, in Car 44, unnecessarily impeded Bortoleto, in Car 5, at the entry to Turn 9 during Free Practice 2. It says Hamilton received a warning. Grandprix.com also reports a warning and says Bortoleto was on an out lap, not a timed lap, and told the stewards he remained in control. These are secondary-source accounts, not details verified against the FIA decision.

gp.news’s October 2, 2026 report and Grandprix.com’s October 2, 2026 report agree on the reported warning and fine, but differ on where the incident took place.

According to gp.news, Ferrari was fined €10,000 for failing to warn Hamilton by radio about faster approaching cars while the team knew his right-hand mirror was damaged. That is the reported rationale; without the underlying FIA decision, it cannot be presented as an independently verified finding.

Where did the incident happen?
The event identification remains unresolved in the available reporting. The gp.news page path identifies the story with the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix, while Grandprix.com says the incident happened during second practice at Sepang. Neither account is confirmed here by an FIA document, so it would be premature to name either event as definitive.
What penalty did Hamilton receive?
The reports say Hamilton received a warning for impeding Bortoleto. They separately say Ferrari was fined €10,000 over the team’s handling of traffic warnings. Do not treat the reported team fine as a €10,000 penalty imposed on Hamilton personally.

Do not confuse it with Ferrari’s 2025 Singapore fine
An official FIA document records a separate €10,000 fine for Ferrari at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. That penalty followed an unsafe release involving Charles Leclerc during Practice 2; it is not the Hamilton–Bortoleto incident. The FIA’s Document 21 for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix concerns that distinct case.
