Ather Energy has postponed the entry-level Konarc S/SR1 electric scooter to Q4 FY27 (January–March 2027 under India’s April–March financial year). The company says it is delaying the lower-priced, 100 km IDC variant because current production cannot satisfy demand for existing scooters. Ather wants new capacity at AURIC in Maharashtra and additional Hosur expansion operating before it introduces a high-volume model that could reduce sales of higher-margin variants.
No exact calendar launch date has been announced as of October 27, 2026. Buyers who need a scooter now can consider the 125 km or 161 km Konarc S in select cities; those seeking the expected ₹99,999 entry point will need to wait for the revised window.

Why is the Ather Konarc launch delayed?
Ather changed its rollout plan because it cannot currently build enough scooters to meet demand. The company had expected to prioritise entry Konarc versions, but around the August 29, 2026 Konarc launch it switched focus to the mid-range SR2 and SR3 variants after supply shortages affected its existing range.
CEO Tarun Mehta said launching the cheaper model before production improves would create a margin problem: “Otherwise, it’s honestly a margin loss for us, which is not very healthy.” In practical terms, Ather believes a volume-oriented scooter could displace sales of more profitable models while factories are already capacity-constrained.

- Ather reported approximately 1.8 lakh Q2 FY27 preorders, up 108% year over year.
- Average production was about 33,000 units per month during Q2 FY27.
- Management estimates it is missing roughly 18,000–20,000 potential retail units each month because of production limits, according to Autocar Professional’s 2026 reporting.
Those figures explain why the company is sequencing the range rather than launching every Konarc version at once.
When will the entry-level Ather Konarc launch?
Ather’s official product information places the Konarc S 100 km IDC in Q4 FY27. That means the company’s current target is the final quarter of India’s 2026–27 financial year, from January through March 2027. Ather has not published a specific day or month, so the window should not be treated as a firm delivery date.

What must happen before Ather can release it?
The launch depends on factory capacity, not just product readiness.
AURIC expansion
Ather expects trial production at its AURIC facility in Maharashtra in Q3 FY27 and completion of capacity installation by Q4 FY27. Installed equipment will still need additional quarters to ramp, so an operational factory does not automatically mean immediate full-volume deliveries.
Additional Hosur capacity
The company also plans staged capacity additions at Hosur. Autocar Professional reported a planned investment of ₹122 crore for 2.25 lakh units of annual expansion, while Ather’s earnings call described a path toward 11.4 lakh annual installed capacity by Q2 FY28. These are capacity plans and targets, not guaranteed production or delivery totals.
Dealer inventory
Ather has slowed dealer-network expansion because it cannot reliably guarantee inventory. Management expects more noticeable dealer additions from Q4 FY27 as supply improves. That could affect how quickly the entry model reaches smaller cities after its initial release.
Is the Ather Konarc S 100 available in my city?
No. The 100 km IDC entry version has not been announced for sale, and Ather has not published a complete city-by-city launch list for it. Konarc rollout began in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, then expanded to Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and other states. Southern-market availability is tied to the additional capacity planned for Hosur.
Ather’s FAQ says the 125 km and 161 km Konarc S variants are currently available in select cities, with deliveries already started in select locations. Bookings in eligible markets require a refundable ₹2,499 fee. Availability can therefore differ between a state, a city and an individual dealer.

What do the available Konarc variants offer?
Ather lists an introductory starting price of ₹99,999 for the Konarc range. The company’s published specifications currently identify the following buyer-relevant differences:
| Specification | Konarc S | Konarc Z |
|---|---|---|
| Range choices | 100, 125, 161 and 200 km IDC, with availability varying by version and timing | 125 and 161 km IDC planned; line marked “coming soon” |
| Top speed | 70 km/h listed by Ather | Not stated in the cited FAQ/product information |
| Boot space | 31 litres | Not separately stated |
| Front compartment | 2 litres, with USB charger | Not separately stated |
| Charging | Combined Charging requires an additional 450 W charger; USB charger is separately purchasable for Konarc S | Not separately stated |
| Battery warranty | 3 years/30,000 km standard; optional 8 years/80,000 km or 10 years/100,000 km coverage | Not separately stated |
| Service interval | Annually or every 10,000 km | Not separately stated |
IDC figures are standardised test-cycle claims and are not a guarantee of real-world distance. Ather has not provided a TrueRange figure in the cited material, so buyers should not treat the IDC number as an everyday range promise.
Should you wait for the ₹99,999 Konarc or buy an available variant?
Wait if the lower entry price and 100 km IDC configuration are your priorities and your current scooter can cover the intervening months. The revised Q4 FY27 timing is a company forecast, and delivery timing may vary as AURIC and Hosur capacity ramp.
Buy an available Konarc S if you need an electric scooter before then and live in a city where the 125 km or 161 km version is actually in stock. Confirm the on-road price, delivery estimate, charger equipment and local service coverage with the dealer; the ₹99,999 figure is an introductory starting price, not a universal on-road total.
For either choice, check the charging setup first. Combined Charging needs the additional 450 W charger, and the Konarc S USB charger is a separate purchase according to Ather’s FAQ.
What should prospective buyers monitor next?
- An exact launch date for the 100 km Konarc S, which Ather has not yet released.
- Trial-production and installation milestones at AURIC during FY27.
- Hosur capacity additions and whether dealer inventory improves from Q4 FY27.
- City-specific booking and delivery announcements, rather than relying only on the national rollout window.
- Final on-road pricing and charger inclusions when bookings open for the entry variant.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Q4 FY27 mean for an Ather Konarc buyer?
For an Indian company using an April-to-March financial year, Q4 FY27 runs from January through March 2027. It is a target window, not a promised delivery day.
Can I reserve the delayed 100 km Konarc S now?
Ather has not announced a nationwide booking process for that delayed version. Its published ₹2,499 refundable booking fee applies only in select markets and should not be assumed to cover the 100 km model.
Will the Konarc’s IDC range equal the distance I get every day?
No. IDC is a standard test-cycle figure. Traffic, speed, payload, temperature and riding mode can all change actual distance, and Ather has not published a TrueRange value in the cited information.
Does the ₹99,999 price include everything needed to charge at home?
The ₹99,999 figure is an introductory starting price. Ather says Combined Charging requires an additional 450 W charger, so confirm the charger supplied, optional accessories and all on-road charges before paying.
