Yes, the Xiaomi SU7’s wireless charging can feel slow—but that does not automatically mean the charging pad is faulty. The “50W” figure is a maximum capability for compatible Xiaomi phones using Xiaomi’s proprietary wireless-charging protocol. It is not the universal speed every phone receives.
According to Xiaomi’s reported response to complaints in May 2024, the SU7’s pad can deliver up to 30W to a Xiaomi 13 Pro, up to 15W to other Qi-compatible Android phones, and up to 7.5W to iPhones. Heat, battery level, phone usage, case thickness and placement can reduce the real-world rate further.

How fast does the Xiaomi SU7 charge different phones?
The most useful way to interpret the SU7’s headline specification is as the ceiling of its charging hardware—not a promise that every handset will charge at 50W.

These figures come from reporting on Xiaomi’s response, rather than a newly issued 2026 announcement. Treat them as reported maximums, and check the specifications for your particular vehicle market, software version and phone model.

Why the 50W figure does not apply to every phone
Wireless charging speed depends on several layers working together:
- The pad’s capability: The SU7 hardware is advertised as supporting up to 50W.
- The phone’s wireless input limit: A phone must be designed to accept that level of wireless power.
- Protocol compatibility: A Xiaomi phone’s proprietary fast-charging mode must successfully negotiate with the pad. Otherwise, the connection may fall back to a lower Qi rate.
- Physical coil design: The phone’s receiving coil, not just its software, affects how much power it can use.
- Operating conditions: Temperature, alignment, battery level and background activity all influence the sustained rate.

Why the Xiaomi 13 Pro is reportedly limited to 30W
The Xiaomi 13 Pro supports 50W wireless charging as a phone feature, but Xiaomi’s specifications list up to 30W with a specified 50W wireless charging stand. Its reported explanation for the SU7 result is the phone’s smaller wireless-charging coil.
That is an important distinction: supporting Xiaomi’s fast-wireless protocol alone does not guarantee 50W. The phone’s hardware and the particular charging system still determine the negotiated rate. Xiaomi’s official Xiaomi 13 Pro specifications confirm both the phone’s 50W capability and the lower 30W figure with a particular accessory.
Why iPhones feel especially slow in the SU7
For an iPhone, the SU7’s 50W headline should not be compared with Apple’s MagSafe experience. The reported SU7 maximum for iPhones is 7.5W through the Qi charging pathway.
MagSafe is a separate Apple accessory and alignment system. A MagSafe-compatible case or magnetic ring may help hold a phone in position, but it does not turn the SU7 pad into a MagSafe charger or increase its Qi power limit. Xiaomi’s own 50W Wireless Charging Stand Pro documentation also lists iPhone charging at 7.5W, providing useful first-party context.

For an iPhone running navigation, streaming music and a bright screen, 7.5W may only slow battery drain—or fail to offset it. A USB-C wired connection is generally the better choice when the phone needs to gain charge quickly.
What other Android phones should expect
The reported SU7 ceiling for other Qi-compatible Android phones is up to 15W. That includes phones that may support faster proprietary wireless charging with their own branded chargers. Without a shared Xiaomi charging protocol, the SU7 pad may use the phone’s Qi charging mode instead.
The 15W figure should be treated as the reported SU7-specific maximum, not a universal rule for every Android phone or every later vehicle revision. A phone can also receive less than 15W because of heat, battery protection or poor alignment.
Why wireless charging slows down in real use
Heat and navigation
Heat is one of the most likely reasons the SU7 seems slow during a journey. The phone is receiving energy wirelessly while it may also be running GPS, displaying navigation, using mobile data and sitting in a hot cabin or direct sunlight.
Xiaomi’s wireless car charger FAQ says a phone may switch to a lower-power charging mode when its temperature rises, including when navigation is running or hot air is directed toward it. A thick case, direct sunlight or warm air from the climate system can make the situation worse.

Charging power is not constant from empty to full. Phones generally accept more power at lower charge levels and reduce the rate as the battery fills. The same phone that charges quickly at a low percentage may appear much slower above the middle or upper part of its charge cycle.

Consequently, “50W” is not a promise of a fixed 50W from 1% to 100%. Battery capacity, conversion losses, thermal limits and the phone’s charging curve all affect the time required.
Background apps and screen use
Navigation, high brightness, video, gaming, hotspot use, music streaming and other demanding tasks consume power while the phone is charging. The phone may technically be charging while its battery percentage rises very slowly—or falls.
Placement and movement
Wireless charging works best when the transmitter coil in the pad is aligned with the receiver coil in the phone. Place the handset as centrally and flatly as possible. Acceleration, braking and cornering can move it away from the optimal area.

Xiaomi’s wireless-charging alignment guidance recommends centering the phone and adjusting its position if charging is abnormal. A large camera bump may prevent the handset from sitting flat.
Cases, cards and magnetic accessories
Thick cases increase the distance between the coils. Metal plates, cards, magnetic rings and other objects between the phone and pad can interfere with charging or trigger foreign-object protection. Remove them while testing.
A magnetic accessory can improve positioning in some setups, but it cannot unlock a higher charging rate. Depending on its material and location, it may also interfere with charging.

How to tell whether the SU7 pad is working normally
- Confirm that the phone supports wireless charging.
- Identify its maximum wireless standard and whether it supports Xiaomi’s proprietary fast-wireless protocol.
- Set realistic expectations: iPhones are reportedly limited to 7.5W, other Qi Android phones to 15W, and some Xiaomi phones to higher rates.
- Remove a thick case, metal plate, cards and magnetic accessories.
- Center the phone on the pad and ensure it remains flat.
- Test with a cool phone, away from direct sunlight or hot airflow.
- Temporarily stop navigation and demanding apps, then turn the screen off.
- Compare the battery percentage after 15–30 minutes.
- Repeat the test while the vehicle is stationary, and try another phone if one is available.
This is a practical comparison, not a laboratory power measurement. It helps distinguish a low but normal charging rate from a connection that repeatedly cuts out.

When a service visit is justified
Slow charging alone is not enough to prove a defective pad. Contact the dealer or service center when:
- A compatible Xiaomi phone never charges at all.
- The pad repeatedly disconnects with correct placement and a cool phone.
- Multiple phones fail in the same way.
- The pad becomes abnormally hot.
- There is visible damage or a vehicle warning.
- The problem began after a software update and remains after controlled testing.
Do not assume the vehicle can display an exact real-time wireless power figure; that depends on the relevant SU7 software and market configuration.
Is wired charging better?
For many SU7 owners, yes. USB-C wired charging is preferable when you need to run navigation continuously, the phone is hot, the battery must gain a large amount quickly, or the handset is an iPhone or non-Xiaomi Android phone limited to Qi charging.
The trade-off is cable clutter. The built-in pad is convenient for short trips and maintenance charging, while a cable is generally more consistent and less sensitive to coil alignment and heat.
Verdict
The SU7’s 50W claim is a conditional maximum, not a universal wireless-charging speed. A compatible Xiaomi phone may approach the headline figure under suitable conditions; the Xiaomi 13 Pro is reportedly limited to 30W, other Qi Android phones to 15W, and iPhones to 7.5W. If the phone is merely charging slowly, check compatibility, temperature, workload and placement before treating the pad as defective.
