Mercedes documents a Traffic Sign Assist warning for certain wrong-way entries, but the sources reviewed do not show that the system physically prevents entry or stops the car. The feature is country- and vehicle-dependent. Although Mercedes announced a broad S-Class update in May 2026, that announcement does not specifically say the wrong-way warning was newly introduced or revised.
What the wrong-way warning does
The March 2021 S-Class MBUX owner’s manual describes Traffic Sign Assist as using traffic-sign recognition and digital road-map data. Where supported, it can provide a no-entry warning if the car is driven the wrong way onto a section of road, such as a motorway slip road or a one-way street. Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2021 MBUX Owner’s Manual
The manual describes a warning function—not a system that blocks an entry, steers the vehicle away, or automatically brakes to a stop. Drivers still need to follow road signs and confirm they are entering the correct road.
What Mercedes’ 2026 S-Class update says—and does not say
Mercedes-Benz Media Newsroom USA announced an S-Class update on May 13, 2026, describing extensive vehicle changes and an updated driver-assistance architecture. The release lists ten external cameras, five radar sensors, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a high-performance control unit. It also says the vehicle’s software supports over-the-air updates and that some additional functions will become available later. Who can use the feature
Mercedes’ manual says Traffic Sign Assist is not supported in every country and identifies the no-entry warning as a country-specific additional function. The available equipment and warning functions therefore cannot be assumed to be identical across Mercedes models or markets. Mercedes-Benz Japan also cautions that equipment varies by model and specification; that guidance applies to its market, not universally. Owner’s manual · Mercedes-Benz Japan: Safety & Technology

Why Traffic Sign Assist may not recognize a sign or road
The owner’s manual lists conditions that can impair recognition or prevent the function from working as intended:

Mercedes-Benz Connectivity Services also uses the name “Traffic Signs” for a business data product aimed at authorities, cities, and municipalities. Its page says connected-vehicle cameras can recognize signs and, with driver consent, transmit data to a Mercedes-Benz backend for validation and aggregation. The stated purpose includes monitoring road-sign infrastructure, such as identifying damaged or missing signs. The page does not say this service is the same as, or directly powers, the in-car wrong-way warning. Mercedes-Benz Connectivity Services: Traffic Signs

- DURABLE POLYESTER: 5 mil thick 'Video Surveillance In Use' labels offer exceptional durability! Overlaminated with a clear UV and chemical-resistant polyester, these labels offer enhanced longevity. Square-cornered labels are more prone to peeling and detaching quickly, making our rounded design a superior choice for lasting performance.
- STICKS BETTER: Our labels use a heavy 2 mils thick aggressive adhesive. This allows our labels to be applied to plastics, metal, wood or onto textured, damp or even slightly dirty surfaces. A typical label from a competitor has a lightweight 0.8 mils thick adhesive.
- WRINKLE-FREE PACKAGING: Our labels are also packed in a stiff board flat pack. This ensures that you get your labels delivered wrinkle-free without any jumbling up.
