What happened in the Cybertruck explosion at the Trump hotel?
LVMPD said it received a report of an explosion at about 8:40 a.m. on January 1, 2025. The Cybertruck had entered the hotel valet area shortly beforehand. The department reported one deceased occupant and seven people with minor injuries. Who was the driver?
On January 2, LVMPD identified the driver as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger of Colorado Springs and described him as an active-duty Army Green Beret serving with the 10th Special Forces Group. The same release said the coroner determined his cause of death was suicide by gunshot. Those identity and service details were attributed to LVMPD, not to the Pentagon. What did the Pentagon confirm?
At a January 3, 2025 briefing, Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said Army CID was working with the FBI and local law enforcement on the Las Vegas investigation. She also said the department had turned over medical records to local law enforcement. Was the Cybertruck explosion linked to the New Orleans attack?
An Associated Press report published January 2, 2025 attributed to FBI Deputy Assistant Director Chris Raia the statement that officials had found “no definitive link” between the Las Vegas explosion and the New Orleans attack. In the same January 2 AP report, ATF Special Agent in Charge Kenny Cooper said, “The level of sophistication is not what we would expect from an individual with this type of military experience.” This is Cooper’s assessment as reported by AP, not a general finding about military training or proof of a particular motive.
