But the agency’s April 2024 investigation opening was an inquiry into reported failures—not a finding that every Ocean had a defective door. A separate recall, issued in June 2024, addresses sticking exterior door handles on certain 2023–2024 vehicles.
What NHTSA investigated in April 2024
On April 1, 2024, NHTSA opened preliminary evaluation PE24-010 concerning model-year 2023 Fisker Ocean vehicles. In an April 8 information request, the agency said it had received 14 reports of intermittent failures involving the driver, front passenger, and/or rear doors. NHTSA’s information request and opening resume describe the scope of the inquiry.
Some reports alleged that a door could not be opened from either its interior or exterior handle, and that an emergency override also failed, leaving occupants to use another door. Those are allegations in reports received by NHTSA, not proof that every reported vehicle—or every Ocean—had the same fault.
The opening resume listed an investigation population of 6,813 model-year 2023 vehicles and 14 incidents. It listed zero crashes, zero injury incidents, and zero fatalities at that stage. These are administrative figures in the opening summary, not a failure rate or proof that no unreported harm occurred.

How the investigation differs from the later recall
Fisker later reported a safety defect involving sticking exterior handles. NHTSA acknowledged recall 24V-466 on June 27, 2024. Its acknowledgment lists certain 2023–2024 Ocean vehicles and estimates 8,204 potentially affected units. The recall acknowledgment and Fisker’s Part 573 filing describe the recall.

The 14 reports and 8,204 potentially affected vehicles measure different things, cover different scopes, and should not be compared as a failure rate. An investigation opening is an inquiry, not a final determination; NHTSA says investigations assess whether a potential safety-defect trend presents an unreasonable risk that may warrant a recall. NHTSA’s explanation of investigations provides that context.

What the recall says causes the sticking—and how it is repaired
In its filing, Fisker attributed sticking to dimensional variation in the exterior-handle chassis width. That variation could create friction as a handle deploys or retracts. NHTSA described the safety concern this way: “A door that fails to open can prevent occupants from exiting in an emergency, increasing the risk of injury.”
The recall procedure is an exterior-handle inspection, not a software update. Technicians use a supplier-provided force-checking tool to inspect all four exterior side-door handles and replace any handle that receives a “Not Okay” result. The recall remedy document describes the procedure.

This remedy is specific to exterior handles. It should not be taken as proof that every reported concern involving a latch, interior handle, or emergency override is resolved by the recall.

- Check the VIN. Enter your vehicle identification number in NHTSA’s recall lookup to see whether campaign 24V-466 applies and remains unrepaired.
- Follow current repair instructions. If the recall is open for your vehicle, contact an authorized service channel and confirm the inspection and repair arrangements before visiting.
- Verify any enrollment or reimbursement offer directly. Fisker’s website displayed an enrollment notice for recall repair and reimbursement on model-year 2023 Ocean vehicles with a June 30, 2026 deadline. That date has passed; whether enrollment has reopened or what service capacity is available is not established by the cited records.
NHTSA says recalls do not expire, so check your VIN even if the original notice or enrollment deadline is old. The cited records do not establish PE24-010’s final disposition or the current completion rate for recall 24V-466.
