The Aprilia SXR GT 125 is the alternative for riders who specifically want a maxi-scooter shape, a reported 5-inch LCD, and 14-inch wheels. Neither scooter can be declared universally better: your route, riding position, passenger needs, local dealer support and actual on-road price matter more than small differences in peak engine figures.
This comparison concerns the Aprilia SXR GT 125 launched in October 2026. It does not use specifications from the older Aprilia SXR 125, which remains on Aprilia India’s legacy pages. Published prices below are launch-period, ex-showroom figures from different cities and dates, so obtain a same-day local quotation before deciding.

Make sure you are comparing the right Aprilia
Search results and dealer listings can still show the older Aprilia SXR 125. That model is not the SXR GT 125. The legacy SXR page lists a 3V i-get engine, 9.61 PS, 10.19 Nm, an LCD display, a 775 mm seat height, USB, a 7-litre tank and 12-inch wheels. The older brochure also lists 124.45 cc, a front disc with CBS, a rear drum and 12-inch tyres. Those numbers belong to the previous model and must not be used as the GT 125’s specifications.

You can see the historic specification set on Aprilia India’s legacy SXR 125 page and the legacy brochure. When requesting a quotation, check that the invoice, variant name and vehicle-identification details say SXR GT 125, not SXR 125.
Engine performance: close on paper, different riding positions
The SXR GT 125 uses a reported 124.5 cc single-cylinder engine making 10.6 hp at 7,400 rpm and 10.4 Nm at 6,200 rpm. Honda’s 2025 release gives the Dio 125 a 123.92 cc engine, 6.11 kW and 10.5 Nm. The displacement and torque figures are close enough that a specification-sheet winner would be misleading. Peak output also does not tell you how either scooter responds from a stop, how smoothly it builds speed with a passenger, or how it behaves on a flyover.
Use the numbers to confirm that both are genuine 125-class options, then ride both on the same route. Try a stop-start section, a moderate uphill, a tight turn and a short open stretch. Notice throttle smoothness, vibration, steering effort and whether the riding position lets you keep a relaxed view through traffic. Do not treat a manufacturer or launch-report output figure as a measured acceleration result; no matched independent acceleration test is established here.
What the SXR GT’s format changes
The SXR GT is positioned as a maxi scooter. Its larger bodywork and reported 14-inch wheels are central to the model’s identity. A rider who spends time on broad roads, uneven city surfaces or longer urban connectors may prefer the sense of space and wheel size, but that is a personal fit question rather than proof of superior ride quality. Wheel diameter alone does not establish comfort, braking distance or stability.
What the Dio’s format changes
The Dio is presented as a sportier, more compact moto-scooter. That can be useful when filtering through dense traffic, turning into narrow lanes or parking in a tight apartment or office space. The practical result depends on the rider’s height, arm reach and confidence, so sit on both scooters with the bars straight and place both feet where you would at a real stop.

Honda’s connected instrument package
The 2025 Dio 125 announcement highlights a 4.2-inch TFT that can show mileage information, a trip meter, an Eco indicator and range-to-empty information. It also lists Honda RoadSync compatibility, a Smart Key, USB Type-C and an idling-stop system. These features are meaningful if you regularly check trip data, use phone-linked functions or want a modern keyless routine.

Honda states that not every feature is necessarily included in every variant. Confirm the exact equipment on the DLX or H-Smart scooter in front of you, and ask how RoadSync pairing works with your phone. Check whether the function you care about requires an app, Bluetooth permissions, a particular phone operating system or a specific variant. A USB-C socket is useful only if it is accessible with your chosen mount and cable while riding.
Aprilia’s reported display and core equipment
Launch coverage reports a 5-inch LCD cluster for the SXR GT 125, along with CBS and 14-inch wheels. The report also identifies BS6 OBD-II Stage B compliance and E20 fuel compatibility. The available material does not establish a comparable connected-navigation feature set, a Smart Key system or a larger list of display functions for the GT 125. Ask the Aprilia dealer to demonstrate every menu and warning light rather than assuming that a larger screen means smartphone integration.
Idling stop and real fuel use are different questions
Honda documents an idling-stop system, but the announcement does not provide a measured fuel-economy result. The presence of the feature is not evidence that the Dio will achieve a particular mileage on your commute. Traffic density, tyre pressure, load, riding speed, weather and maintenance can dominate fuel consumption. No comparable independent fuel-economy test, reliability study or total-cost analysis is established for these two scooters.
Brakes, wheels and the safety questions to ask
The SXR GT 125 launch report lists CBS braking and 14-inch wheels. Honda’s product material describes a disc brake and notes variant differences, but the available information does not provide a directly equivalent, complete braking specification for every Dio 125 version. Do not claim that one scooter has a shorter stopping distance or is safer without a controlled test.
During a test ride, make several progressive stops on a clean, quiet road before trying firmer braking. Check lever reach, initial bite, straight-line stability and how the scooter behaves when the road surface is dusty or wet. Ask the dealer which wheel receives the disc, whether CBS is fitted to the exact variant, what tyre sizes are supplied and what replacement parts cost. Wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules; never use a public road to perform an emergency-braking experiment.
Price: why the published figures are not a direct bargain comparison

The Aprilia and Honda figures come from different dates, states and potentially different dealer charges. They do not include the same registration, insurance, handling, accessories or local offers. Ask both dealers for written, itemised on-road quotations dated the same week. Specify the city, exact variant, insurance type, registration charges, optional accessories, financing fees and any exchange or promotional discount. Compare the final payable amount, not one brand’s ex-showroom launch number with the other brand’s current invoice.

The SXR GT price is a launch-period reported figure, not a guarantee of the current on-road price. Honda’s figures are also dated launch prices and do not establish what every dealer charges now. A quote that is materially higher or lower should be explained line by line.

Rider fit
With the scooter upright, check whether you can place at least one foot securely at a stop without sliding off the seat. Turn the bars fully left and right and make sure your knees do not collide with the handlebar or front bodywork. If you carry a laptop, groceries or a rain suit, bring the items—or representative bags—to the dealership. Do not assume under-seat capacity, glovebox volume or USB placement; the supplied specifications do not establish comparable storage measurements.
Route and road surface
Write down your normal journey before visiting a dealer: kilometres each way, time spent stationary, road width, speed-breaker frequency, steep sections, wet-weather exposure and how often you carry a passenger. Reproduce those conditions as closely as possible. A scooter that feels effortless for a ten-minute showroom loop may be tiring after an hour of stop-start traffic.

Phone and navigation use
If you need navigation, ask Honda to pair your own phone with the Dio’s RoadSync-compatible system and demonstrate the functions you actually use. For the SXR GT, ask what navigation or phone functions are available on the 5-inch LCD and whether a mount is approved or supplied. Keep the phone secured and avoid operating it while moving.
Warranty, service and dealer support
Honda’s current Dio 125 product page states a standard warranty of three years or 36,000 km, whichever comes first. It lists paid service every 6,000 km or six months. Confirm whether the interval is measured from delivery, whether the first service has a different timing, which consumables are excluded, and how warranty claims are handled if you use a different authorised workshop.
Equivalent current SXR GT 125 warranty and service terms were not established in the available material. Ask the Aprilia dealer for the written warranty duration, kilometre limit, scheduled-service intervals, labour rates, consumable list, roadside-assistance terms and expected parts lead times. Ask for the name and address of the workshop that will actually maintain your scooter, not just the showroom selling it.

Questions to put on the quotation
- Which exact model year and variant is being invoiced?
- What is included in the ex-showroom amount, and what is optional?
- What are the registration, insurance, handling and finance charges?
- Which warranty document applies, and what exclusions could void a claim?
- Where are routine services performed, and how long are commonly replaced parts usually ordered?
- Can the dealer show a completed service schedule and the current owner’s manual?
Local support can outweigh a small paper advantage. If the nearest authorised workshop is difficult to reach, include travel time and inconvenience in your ownership decision.
Storage and commuting accessories
Launch coverage for the SXR GT range mentions a utilitarian top box, a large windscreen and a perimeter kit. Team-BHP’s launch coverage is available here. That does not establish current stock, price or exact SXR GT 125 fitment. Ask the dealer to confirm compatibility in writing before paying for an accessory, especially if it affects the rack, rear bodywork, warranty or passenger space.
For either scooter, test your real storage routine: place a helmet, rainwear, lock and work bag in the available compartments; check whether the seat closes without forcing it; and see if the front pocket can hold your phone without exposing it to water or theft. The Honda product page specifically mentions a double-lid external fuel filling arrangement and a front pocket. It does not make the two scooters’ total storage capacities directly comparable.
A fair test-ride procedure
- Inspect the exact scooter. Photograph the model and variant name, check the odometer, inspect tyre condition and confirm that the quoted equipment is fitted to that vehicle.
- Set the controls. Adjust mirrors, sit in your normal footwear and check reach to both levers. If you regularly carry a passenger, repeat the posture check with the passenger seat occupied.
- Ride the same loop. Use the same streets and, where legal and safe, include a stop-start junction, a turn-around, a speed breaker and a short open section.
- Test low-speed balance. Make slow U-turns and tight turns. Note steering effort, mirror clearance and whether your feet can reach the ground confidently.
- Test braking progressively. Use gentle and moderate stops on a clean surface; assess control and feedback rather than trying to create a maximum-stop result.
- Check the daily technology. On the Dio, pair your phone if permitted and inspect mileage, trip and range screens. On the SXR GT, cycle through the LCD menus and ask what each warning indicates.
- Record practical impressions immediately. Write down posture, heat, vibration, storage access, passenger comfort, screen readability in sunlight and ease of parking before riding the second scooter.
- Request written figures. Leave with an itemised on-road quotation, warranty terms, service schedule and accessory prices for the exact scooter you rode.
Pitfalls that can lead to the wrong purchase
Mistaking legacy SXR specifications for GT specifications
The old SXR 125’s 9.61 PS, 10.19 Nm, 7-litre tank, 12-inch wheels and 775 mm seat height are not SXR GT 125 specifications. If a listing shows those figures while calling the vehicle an SXR GT, ask the seller to correct the listing and provide the current brochure or invoice.
Comparing different cities and years as if they were current prices
The Aprilia launch price is reported for Maharashtra in October 2026; Honda’s launch prices are for Pune in April 2025. Registration, insurance, taxes, dealer charges and later price revisions can change the payable amount. Use current local quotations.
Assuming equipment is identical across variants
Honda explicitly notes that not all features may appear on every variant. Smart Key, TFT functions, RoadSync compatibility and other equipment should be checked against the exact DLX or H-Smart vehicle. Do not pay for a feature based only on a generic advertisement.

Turning a feature into a performance claim
Idling stop does not guarantee a particular mileage, 14-inch wheels do not prove better comfort, and a disc brake or CBS label does not provide a braking-distance result. Treat each as a reason to inspect or test the scooter, not as a substitute for evidence.
Ignoring the dealer relationship
A scooter is a recurring service relationship. Before booking, call the workshop, ask about appointment lead times and parts ordering, and verify that warranty and scheduled-service promises will be written on the job card or purchase documents.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Honda Dio 125 when convenience technology leads the decision
The Dio 125 is the stronger starting point if your daily routine benefits from a TFT with mileage and range information, RoadSync compatibility, Smart Key, USB-C and idling stop. Honda also publishes a three-year/36,000-km warranty and a 6,000-km or six-month paid-service interval, giving you a clearer baseline for budgeting. Confirm the exact variant, current price and nearby workshop before booking.

The SXR GT 125 makes more sense when you want the maxi-scooter stance, the reported 14-inch wheels, the larger 5-inch LCD and the bodywork that distinguishes it from compact commuter scooters. Its 124.5 cc engine output is close to the Dio’s published figures, so the purchase should be based on how the scooter fits and feels rather than on a small peak-power advantage. Obtain written warranty and service terms because equivalent current details are not established in the available sources.
When neither is an obvious winner
If your decision depends mainly on fuel economy, long-term reliability, resale value, braking distance, acceleration or total maintenance cost, the available specifications cannot answer it. There is no comparable independent test for those points here. Keep dated fuel and service records after purchase, and ask local owners about their actual workshop experience rather than treating an online claim as a measured result.
The practical verdict is therefore conditional: Honda Dio 125 for a connected, convenience-led urban commute; Aprilia SXR GT 125 for a maxi-style riding position and design-led choice. Make the final call only after a same-route test ride, a same-city on-road quotation and a written service check.
