What to confirm with a dealer
- The complete model name shown on the quotation, registration paperwork and vehicle-identification documents.
- Whether the scooter is currently available in your state or country, rather than only appearing on a legacy product page.
- The exact engine specification and the manufacturer’s certified fuel-economy figure for that variant.
- The on-road price, which can differ by city because of taxes, registration, insurance and local incentives.
- The written warranty terms, service intervals and parts coverage for the vehicle you will actually receive.
Until those checks are complete, the Aprilia figures should be read as specifications for the SXR GT 175 hp-e page only, not as verified specifications for an unspecified “SXR 175.”
Ather 450S battery, range and charging configurations
Ather’s official materials describe more than one 450S configuration. The current product page lists 122 km and 161 km IDC range and associates them with installed capacities of 2.9 kWh and 3.5 kWh. A separate Ather release dated July 31, 2025 announces a 3.7 kWh 450S with a 161 km IDC range. Those capacity figures cannot be silently merged: they come from different official documents and may represent a model-year, market or specification change.

Before comparing the Ather with any petrol scooter, match the battery capacity, range rating and charger to the exact trim on the invoice. A 161 km figure paired with the wrong capacity or charging time can make the comparison appear more certain than the manufacturer’s own documents allow.

What IDC range means
IDC is a certified range measure published by the manufacturer. It is useful for comparing configurations tested under the same certification framework, but it is not a promise that every rider will travel that distance. Speed, acceleration, payload, tyre pressure, temperature, traffic, gradients and riding mode all affect the distance available in ordinary use.

No independent, directly comparable real-world test was established for the Ather 450S against the relevant Aprilia variant. Plan your commute using a conservative margin below the IDC number and confirm actual consumption after you have several weeks of riding data.
How far does the Ather 450S go on one charge?
The answer depends on which 450S you are buying: Ather lists either 122 km or 161 km IDC. Those are the manufacturer’s certified figures, not guaranteed trip distances. The 161 km rating also appears with two different capacity references in official Ather material—3.5 kWh on the current specification information and 3.7 kWh in the July 31, 2025 release—so ask the dealer to identify the current battery and software version in writing.
Test the range against your commute
- Measure the full distance of your normal round trip, including detours and the journey to a charging location if one is needed.
- Determine how many days you expect to ride between charges. A scooter that covers one round trip only on paper leaves little margin for traffic, weather or an unplanned stop.
- Use the lower published Ather rating as the starting point when the dealer has not yet confirmed the larger configuration.
- Keep a reserve for the final part of the journey rather than planning to arrive at zero indicated charge.
- After delivery, record odometer distance and energy added over repeated cycles. That personal record is more useful for your route than an IDC number alone.
For the Aprilia, the equivalent calculation cannot be completed until the exact SXR model’s verified kilometres-per-litre figure is obtained. Do not substitute a number from a different engine, model year or market.

Ather’s published 0–80% home-charging time ranges from 3 hours 12 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes on the current specification material, depending on the battery configuration. Charging details to verify before purchase
- Which battery capacity and range configuration is being invoiced.
- Which charger is included and whether the quoted time assumes a particular electrical supply or installation.
- Whether the charging time is measured from empty to 80% and not to a full 100% charge.
- Where the scooter can be charged overnight at home, work or another permitted location.
- Whether the dealer’s quoted time matches the current owner documentation for your market.
The official specification table also lists Ather Grid top-up capability of up to 15 km in 10 minutes for the 450S. “Up to” is important: it is a manufacturer-stated network-charging figure, not a guaranteed distance gained at every visit. Actual energy added depends on the charger, battery state and operating conditions.
Petrol refuelling versus home charging
The two scooters impose different time and access requirements. The Aprilia uses petrol, so a refuelling stop is tied to station availability and the vehicle’s fuel-tank and mileage characteristics. The Ather shifts most energy replenishment to the time when the scooter is parked, but that advantage exists only if you have reliable access to a compatible electrical supply.
Questions for an Ather buyer
- Can you leave the scooter where it is parked for the published 0–80% period?
- Is the electrical connection available every night, including during workdays or apartment parking restrictions?
- What is your fallback if a planned charge is interrupted?
- Does your route require a public top-up, and is an Ather Grid location convenient rather than a detour?
Questions for an Aprilia buyer
- Is a petrol station available along your normal routes and during the hours you travel?
- What fuel price should be used for your location and review period?
- What fuel economy is certified for the exact SXR GT 175 hp-e, and under what test conditions?
- How often will service, oil and other consumables be required under the manufacturer’s schedule?
Charging is not automatically cheaper in every household, and refuelling is not automatically more convenient for every commute. The better choice depends on your parking, electricity access, route length and local prices.

Handle charging losses consistently. If your electricity measurement is taken at the wall, it already includes the energy lost during charging; if it comes from a battery-use estimate, add losses using the same method for every comparison. Do not compare a petrol figure measured at the tank with an electric figure measured only at the battery.
Inputs you need for a defensible calculation
- Write down your city and the date of the price check.
- Record the petrol price per litre that applies to your usual station or region.
- Use the household electricity tariff that applies to your marginal consumption, including any slab or time-of-use effect.
- Obtain the Aprilia model’s verified fuel-economy figure and identify whether it is certified or independently measured.
- Measure Ather wall-to-battery energy over repeated charges, or use a clearly sourced consumption test for the exact configuration.
- Choose one annual distance and apply it to both vehicles.

The current Ather product page lists a ₹135,999 starting price for the 450S and a standard battery warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km. Both figures are time- and market-sensitive; confirm whether the advertised price is ex-showroom or includes the charges in your quotation, and read the warranty exclusions and claim conditions.
No equivalent current price or warranty figure was established for the intended Aprilia model. That prevents a meaningful upfront-cost or warranty-value verdict. Ask for an itemised on-road quotation and the complete warranty booklet for the exact scooter, then compare like with like: registration, insurance, taxes, delivery charges and any local incentive should be treated consistently.

Battery warranty is not the same as a lifetime battery guarantee
The Ather figure is a stated period and distance limit for the standard battery warranty. It does not by itself establish service life beyond that term, replacement pricing, degradation thresholds or coverage for every failure mode. Those details belong in the written warranty and ownership documents you receive for your market.

The Ather 450S specification page lists 5.4 kW peak power, 22 Nm torque, a 90 km/h top speed and 0–40 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The Aprilia page located for this article lists 9.76 kW and 14.14 Nm for the SXR GT 175 hp-e. Peak power and torque from different propulsion systems do not predict the entire riding experience on their own; gearing, control software, mass, tyre choice and delivery at different speeds also matter.
Use the figures to confirm that the scooters occupy different technical categories, not to claim that one will always accelerate faster or feel stronger in every situation. Pause the purchase when the basic identity is unclear
