The same comparison lists the Crosstrek with better fuel economy and the Bronco Sport with more maximum cargo volume. Ford’s official published specifications available for this comparison are for the 2026 Bronco Sport, not the 2027 model. They show a higher towing rating for the 2026 Badlands than for the specified 1.5-liter trims, but that cannot be carried over to 2027 without checking Ford’s 2027 guide.

Cargo space: the Bronco Sport appears larger on paper
The secondary comparison lists 65.2 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume for the Bronco Sport and 54.7 cubic feet for the Crosstrek. Its detail section lists 32.5 cubic feet behind the Bronco Sport’s second row and 19.9 cubic feet behind the Crosstrek’s. Published cargo volume is not the same as the space your particular items occupy. Seat angle, cargo-floor position, spare-tire configuration, roofline, dog crates and the height of the liftgate opening all affect usability. Bring the largest object you regularly carry when you test-drive.

- Measure the object’s length, width and height, including handles or wheels.
- Ask the salesperson to demonstrate the cargo area with the rear seats in their normal position.
- Check whether the object fits through the hatch opening, not just inside the widest part of the floor.

Subaru’s official 2026 trim comparison lists a 2.5-liter BOXER four-cylinder and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive in its table. It also lists gasoline and hybrid Crosstrek trims. How to think about trails
“Better off-road” is not one measurement. If you regularly travel unpaved forest roads, snow-covered access roads or rocky trails, inspect the tires, recovery points, underbody protection and drive-mode controls on the exact trim. If you only encounter occasional gravel or winter weather, prioritize the equipment and fuel economy you will use every day.
Towing: verify the exact 2027 vehicle before relying on a rating
Ford’s official 2026 information lists 2,200 pounds for specified 1.5-liter trims equipped with the available Class II Trailer Tow Package, and 2,700 pounds for Badlands with its standard package. The rating depends on equipment, payload, occupants and configuration.
