Its lounge-like appeal comes from comfort-focused seating and a flexible cabin, but no independent 2026 road test or crash-test rating is established by the sources cited here. The specifications below distinguish the Australian and China-market cars rather than treating them as one global configuration.
What is the 2026 XPENG X9?
The X9 is a seven-seat premium MPV, designed around passenger space and flexible seating rather than the proportions of a conventional SUV. It is not one identical vehicle worldwide: the reviewed official materials show different powertrains, trim names, prices and equipment in China and Australia. XPENG’s global product page also cautions that actual configurations vary by market and that some features may be optional (XPENG global).
That market distinction matters most for range. China’s range-extended X9 has both an electric-only range and a stated combined range, while Australia’s listed versions are battery-electric and use WLTP range figures. Those test-cycle numbers are not directly comparable.
How much does the 2026 XPENG X9 cost, and what range does it offer?
XPENG’s published figures are market-specific manufacturer claims, not independent real-world measurements. Prices may change, and the Australian prices below exclude on-road costs.

The China range-extended version uses a 1.5T range extender alongside its 63.3 kWh battery. It should not be described simply as a battery-electric X9: XPENG publishes separate electric-only and combined CLTC figures for it. The China configuration table also claims 800V architecture, 5C charging and at least 11.7 minutes for a 10–80% DC charge (XPENG China configuration table).
XPENG’s March 2, 2026 China announcement listed five battery-electric trims from RMB 309,800 to RMB 369,800 and also named the range-extended 1602 Ultra SE at RMB 321,800 (XPENG China announcement). The launch promotion in that announcement was time-limited and had expired by October 7, 2026, so it is not a current offer.

For the Australian battery-electric versions, XPENG says range can differ from standardized figures. The AWD Performance is listed with up to 542 kW peak DC charging and a 10–80% charge in as little as 12 minutes under test conditions; both Australian versions list 11 kW AC charging. Those are manufacturer specifications for the Australian lineup, not a promise of the same result on every charger or in all conditions (XPENG Australia, July 21, 2026).
Does the cabin live up to the “luxury lounge” idea?
The description is grounded in specified comfort equipment, though availability varies by market and trim. XPENG’s global product page lists heated, ventilated and massaging seating, an adjustable third row and one-touch access. It also describes silent-breeze air conditioning with more than 6,000 micro-vents and six-zone voice interaction; these are manufacturer descriptions, and some features may be optional (XPENG global).

Australia’s launch specification is more specific about its local cabin. It describes Zero Gravity second-row seats with 14-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage, plus heated third-row seats. The page also lists a flat floor and second- and third-row seats that split-fold 60/40. These details should not be assumed to apply to every X9 sold elsewhere (XPENG Australia, July 21, 2026).
The Australian model’s listed passenger amenities include a 21.4-inch rear entertainment display, 27-speaker XOPERA audio, a voice-controlled refrigerator, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a panoramic glass roof. These are launch specifications, not independent assessments of sound quality, comfort or usability.

XPENG Australia lists 721 litres of cargo capacity with all seven seats in use and up to 2,554 litres with the rear seats folded. The Norwegian-market specification PDF also lists seven seats and those same cargo figures with the rear row folded, while noting that configurations and prices can change. The figures support a flexible people-and-luggage layout, but they do not by themselves establish how easily the seats fold or how much luggage a particular family can fit (XPENG Australia; XPENG Norway specification PDF).
What safety and driver-assistance features are documented?
XPENG’s global page lists nine airbags and an ultra-high-strength safety-cage body, and says the X9 is “Designed to E-NCAP 5-Star safety standards.” That wording describes the manufacturer’s design claim; it is not proof of an achieved independent crash-test rating. The reviewed official material does not establish a verified 2026 X9 rating (XPENG global; XPENG China).

- The overall shape fits the vehicle body and regulates fluid flow during travel.
- It is a core front part with stylized shapes and unique visual features.
- The grid forms a protective layer to block road debris and avoid direct contact with internal components.
For Australia, XPENG lists XPILOT Assist features including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, parking assistance and a 360-degree camera. XPENG says these systems support the driver rather than replace safe driving, and that the driver remains responsible. Its global page also warns that assistance cannot handle every traffic, weather or road condition. These features should not be treated as autonomous driving (XPENG Australia; XPENG global).
What warranty applies in Australia?
For eligible vehicles sold by XPENG ANZ from June 1, 2026, XPENG Australia states a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for private owners. It also lists eight years or 160,000 kilometres of coverage for the traction battery, Battery Management System, drive motor and Intelligent Power Unit, as well as paint and anti-corrosion coverage. The page recommends servicing every 12 months or 20,000 km, whichever comes first. Terms, conditions and eligibility apply; these Australian provisions should not be carried over to other markets (XPENG Australia).
Is the 2026 XPENG X9 worth considering?
The X9 makes most sense for shoppers who want a premium seven-seat MPV and can assess the version actually sold in their market. Before comparing it with another vehicle, check the local drivetrain and trim, the local price and included equipment, the range test cycle, charging capability, passenger and cargo needs, and local warranty and service terms. In particular, do not treat China’s CLTC range claims as equivalent to Australia’s WLTP figures.
The documented cabin equipment gives the “lounge” description substance, especially in the Australian specification, but it does not substitute for a test drive when judging ride comfort, visibility, seat fit or third-row access. The available official sources do not establish an independent road-test result for the 2026 X9.
