There is no single, objective list of the best motorcycle from every manufacturer. The major award programs judge different classes, use different test methods, and do not cover every motorcycle sold in the United States.
So this list uses a more defensible standard: 15 expert-backed, U.S.-market, street-legal picks from 15 manufacturers, current to August 9, 2026. The selections come from testing, comparison work, category awards, and Motorcycle of the Year finalist lists from Cycle World, Rider, MCN, and Gear Patrol.

1. Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory
MCN named the Tuono V4 1100 Factory its 2025 Best Super Naked. It is the pick here for riders who want superbike-level engine performance without a full fairing and committed race-bike ergonomics.
#1 Best Overall
- 2 Visors Included: Clear + Smoked and 1 Neck Scarf for Winter Use
- Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
- Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell
- Quick Release Clasp and Strap and Removable Inner Lining Pads
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
The “Factory” suffix matters. This is not the smaller Tuono 457. The V4 1100 Factory belongs in a different performance category, with premium chassis equipment and the kind of engine character that makes it especially compelling on fast, technical roads.
2. BMW Motorrad R 1300 RT
Rider placed the R 1300 RT first among its 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalists. The redesigned platform brings more modern touring hardware, improved rider and passenger comfort, and the option of Dynamic Chassis Adjustment.
This is the sensible choice for covering serious mileage on pavement. It is built around weather protection, luggage, two-up comfort, and electronic assistance rather than the lightness or simplicity of a middleweight motorcycle.
3. Can-Am Canyon Redrock
Rider named the Canyon Redrock its 2025 Motorcycle of the Year. It is also the least conventional entry on this list: a three-wheeled Can-Am rather than a standard two-wheel motorcycle.
The Redrock is therefore best considered a motorcycle-category alternative for riders who want adventure-touring capability without managing a two-wheel machine at a stop or at very low speeds.
4. CFMOTO 450CL-C
The 450CL-C was one of Rider’s 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalists. Its appeal is straightforward: a relatively approachable cruiser format, a 449cc parallel-Twin, and a price that made it unusually accessible in the cited coverage.

5. Ducati Panigale V4 S
Cycle World selected the Panigale V4 S as its 2025 Best Open-Class Streetbike, while MCN named it Best Superbike. Cycle World reported 209 hp for the U.S.-spec engine and highlighted revisions to the chassis, ergonomics, aerodynamics, and electronics.
It remains a serious track-capable superbike, but the updated design is intended to make the performance more usable outside a racetrack. That does not make it a relaxed commuter. Insurance, tire wear, service costs, and the learning curve all remain part of the ownership decision.
6. Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic
Rider ranked the Heritage Classic third among its 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalists. It combines traditional Harley-Davidson styling with the touring equipment and modern updates expected from the current Softail family.
Rider’s coverage noted Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine variants, standard cruise control, and lean-sensitive electronic rider aids across six updated models, including the Heritage Classic. The result is a better fit for riders who want a classic-looking motorcycle that is more road-trip capable than a stripped-down cruiser.
7. Honda NT1100 DCT
Rider ranked the NT1100 DCT fourth among its 2025 finalists. Its defining feature is Honda’s Dual-Clutch Transmission; Rider’s coverage stated that the U.S. version is offered only with DCT.
The NT1100 is a sport-tourer, not a substitute for Honda’s Gold Wing Tour DCT. The NT is lighter and more focused on brisk, practical road riding, while the Gold Wing is a much larger luxury tourer. Cycle World separately named the Gold Wing Tour DCT its 2025 Best Touring Bike.
Confirm current U.S. availability and standard equipment before shopping, since model-year lineups can change.

The Chieftain PowerPlus was fifth in Rider’s 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalist ranking. It combines the Chieftain’s distinctive handlebar-mounted fairing with the liquid-cooled PowerPlus V-Twin used in the Challenger family.
Rank #3
- High Resistance ABS Shell With Micrometrically Adjustable Strap
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
- Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
- Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
- Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor
That combination makes it a strong American bagger choice for riders who want substantial highway performance, integrated weather protection, and touring storage. It should not be confused with the Sport Chief RT, which Gear Patrol selected for a separate 2025 roundup.
9. Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX SE
MCN named the Ninja 1100SX SE its 2025 Best Sports-Tourer, citing its blend of performance, agility, comfort, and everyday usability.
The SE designation is important. The standard Ninja 1100SX and the SE are separate versions, so a buyer should compare suspension, braking, electronics, and included equipment rather than assuming every Ninja 1100SX has the same specification.
This is one of the most versatile picks on the list: fast enough for aggressive riding, but substantially more usable for commuting and long days than a dedicated supersport.
10. KTM 390 Adventure R
Rider placed the 390 Adventure R sixth among its 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalists. Its relatively low weight—388 lb in Rider’s listed specification—makes it attractive to riders who want a genuine adventure-bike format without moving immediately to a large, heavy twin.
Rider listed the R at $6,999 and the lower-spec 390 Adventure X at $5,899 in its coverage. Those prices should be rechecked against current listings. The R is built in India by Bajaj, a detail that is relevant to buyers comparing manufacturing location and dealer support.
11. Royal Enfield Bear 650
Cycle World named the Bear 650 its 2025 Best Standard. It uses Royal Enfield’s 650cc parallel-Twin platform in a scrambler-style motorcycle that is more basic and approachable than the high-spec performance machines elsewhere in this list.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe Bear makes sense for riders who value manageable performance, visual character, and mechanical simplicity over maximum acceleration or extensive electronic adjustment. Cycle World listed a $6,849 starting price in its 2025 article; verify the current MSRP, destination charge, and trim availability.

12. Suzuki DR-Z4S
Rider ranked the DR-Z4S eighth among its 2025 finalists. It is the successor to Suzuki’s long-running DR-Z400S and updates that formula with fuel injection, a revised 398cc single-cylinder engine, a new steel twin-spar frame, electronic rider aids, and revised styling.
The DR-Z4S is the dual-sport version. The street-focused supermoto counterpart is called the DR-Z4SM. Choosing between them depends on whether your riding includes dirt trails and rough surfaces or is predominantly pavement.
13. Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS
Rider placed the Speed Triple 1200 RS ninth among its 2025 Motorcycle of the Year finalists. Rider’s listed output is 180 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque, with Öhlins SmartEC3 electronic suspension among the headline features.

14. Yamaha YZF-R9
The YZF-R9 earned three separate forms of recognition: Rider placed it tenth among its 2025 finalists, Cycle World named it Best Sportbike, and MCN named it Best Sportsbike.
Its 890cc CP3 three-cylinder engine gives it a different character from a high-revving 600cc supersport. Yamaha positioned the R9 as a more street-friendly and less expensive alternative to the old R6-style middleweight supersport concept, with stronger real-world torque and less punishing everyday ergonomics.
Rider listed a $12,499 retail price in its 2025 coverage. Treat that as model-year reference information and verify the current Yamaha U.S. price before publication or purchase.

15. Zero SR/F
MCN selected the Zero SR/F as its 2025 Best Electric. It is the electric choice for riders who want a conventional street-bike layout with instant motor response and reduced mechanical complexity compared with a gasoline motorcycle.
Best Value
- High Resistance ABS Shell With Micrometrically Adjustable Strap
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
- Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
- Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
- Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor
Range, charging time, battery warranty, software features, and trim availability are especially important here. Those figures change more often than buyers may expect, so old SR/F reviews should not be used as the final authority for current price or range. Check Zero’s current U.S. model page and confirm the charging hardware available at the dealer.
How the expert picks were chosen
These motorcycles are not arranged as a universal ranking from best to worst. The underlying awards are not interchangeable:
- Cycle World uses testing, dyno work, comparison tests, and staff judgment for category-based Ten Best selections.
- Rider selected Motorcycle of the Year finalists and ranked them, with the Canyon Redrock taking the top overall award in its 2025 coverage.
- MCN gives category awards such as Best Superbike, Best Sports-Tourer, and Best Electric.
- Gear Patrol uses its own editorial testing and selection process.
That is why the list includes everything from a 398cc dual-sport to a 209-hp Ducati and a three-wheeled Can-Am. “Best” depends heavily on the type of riding, rider experience, passenger needs, budget, and tolerance for maintenance or charging logistics.

What to verify before buying
- Check the exact model and trim. Panigale V4 S, Ninja 1100SX SE, 390 Adventure R, DR-Z4S, Speed Triple 1200 RS, and YZF-R9 are specific versions—not interchangeable family names.
- Confirm U.S. availability. A motorcycle appearing in an expert guide may be limited by model year, inventory, or regional distribution.
- Recheck the price. A published 2025 MSRP may not be the current 2026 price, and destination, freight, setup, and documentation fees can add materially to the out-the-door total.
- Compare the use case, not just horsepower. A touring bike, dual-sport, bagger, electric street bike, and superbike solve very different problems.
- Use current manufacturer specifications for hard numbers. Verify power, torque, weight, range, seat height, luggage, suspension, and electronic equipment on the current U.S. model page.
FAQ
Is this literally the best motorcycle from every manufacturer?
No. The U.S. market includes more than 20 major manufacturers and hundreds of motorcycles. This is a curated list of 15 expert-backed picks representing 15 manufacturers, not a complete survey or objective industry ranking.
Why is the Can-Am Canyon Redrock included with motorcycles?
The Canyon Redrock is a three-wheeled vehicle. Rider included it under a legal definition of motorcycle that covers vehicles with no more than three wheels in contact with the ground. It should not be treated as dynamically identical to a conventional two-wheel motorcycle.
Which motorcycle on the list is best for a new rider?
The CFMOTO 450CL-C, Royal Enfield Bear 650, Suzuki DR-Z4S, and KTM 390 Adventure R are more approachable starting points than the Panigale V4 S, Tuono V4 1100 Factory, or Speed Triple 1200 RS. Fit, training, weight, seat height, and local riding conditions matter as much as engine size.
Are the prices in this article current?
Not necessarily. The cited expert coverage includes historical prices such as $5,799 for the CFMOTO 450CL-C, $6,999 for the KTM 390 Adventure R, $6,849 for the Bear 650, and $12,499 for the Yamaha YZF-R9. Verify current MSRP and dealer fees before buying.
The Bottom Line
The strongest all-around choices depend on the job: the BMW R 1300 RT for serious touring, the Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX SE for versatile sport touring, the KTM 390 Adventure R for lightweight adventure riding, the Suzuki DR-Z4S for dual-sport use, and the Yamaha YZF-R9 for accessible modern sport-bike performance. Riders seeking maximum performance can look to the Ducati Panigale V4 S or Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory, while the Honda NT1100 DCT and Indian Chieftain PowerPlus target very different kinds of road touring.
Use the awards as a shortlist, then verify the exact U.S. trim, current price, equipment, availability, insurance cost, and service network before making a decision.
