The Kia Telluride did not disappear in 2026. Kia skipped the 2026 model year while it replaced the first-generation SUV with an all-new 2027 Telluride. That distinction matters: shoppers could buy a Telluride during calendar year 2026, but they would be choosing either leftover 2025 inventory or the redesigned 2027 model—not a vehicle officially designated “2026 Telluride.”
Why Kia skipped the 2026 Telluride
Kia was not carrying the outgoing Telluride forward with a minor update. The company was preparing a full second-generation redesign, so the existing 2025 model sold down while production and launch preparations shifted to the 2027 model.
That created a gap in the model-year sequence:

Kia revealed the redesigned SUV on November 10, 2025, ahead of its official debut at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show. The company initially said it expected the new Telluride to reach U.S. dealers in the first quarter of 2026. It is assembled at Kia’s West Point, Georgia, plant.
There is a Telluride being sold during 2026
The confusing part is the difference between a calendar year and a model year. A 2027 vehicle can arrive at dealerships and be sold during 2026. That is what happened with the redesigned Telluride.

So the accurate version is:
- There is no 2026-model-year Kia Telluride in the U.S.
- 2025 Tellurides may remain available as leftover inventory.
- 2027 Tellurides are sold during calendar year 2026.
- Kia has not permanently discontinued the Telluride nameplate.
If a dealer website shows “2026 Telluride,” treat that label cautiously. It could be a data-entry mistake, a generic reference to a Telluride available in 2026, or a listing that has not been updated. Check the vehicle identification number, window sticker and official Kia configuration details before assuming it is a genuine 2026 model year.
What changed for the 2027 Telluride?
The skipped year made room for substantial mechanical and dimensional changes rather than a simple trim refresh. The new Telluride is 2.3 inches longer overall, has a wheelbase nearly three inches longer and is one inch taller than the outgoing generation.
The powertrain change is even more significant. The previous Telluride’s naturally aspirated V6 is gone from the U.S.-market 2027 lineup. The standard engine is now a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 274 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.
Kia also introduced the first Telluride Hybrid. Its system combines the 2.5-liter turbo engine with a 1.65-kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motors. Total output is 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque.

2027 Telluride trims and pricing
Kia’s current U.S. lineup includes both gas and hybrid versions. The gas model is offered in LX, S, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line and X-Pro trims. The hybrid lineup uses EX, SX, X-Line SX, SX-Prestige and X-Line SX-Prestige designations.

What happened to the 2025 Telluride?
The 2025 Telluride was the last first-generation U.S. model year. It did not become obsolete simply because the 2027 model arrived. Remaining new 2025 vehicles could still be sold after production ended, subject to local inventory.

- Verify the VIN and vehicle history. A VIN lookup can help confirm whether the vehicle is a 2025 or 2027 model.
- Compare the engine. A 2025 uses the outgoing naturally aspirated V6; a U.S.-market 2027 uses the 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder or the turbo-hybrid system.
- Review the purchase contract. Make sure the year, trim and stock number match the vehicle you inspected and test-drove.

Common claims that need correcting
“Kia discontinued the Telluride.”
Not exactly. Kia discontinued the first-generation model after 2025 and skipped the 2026 designation. The Telluride name continued with the second-generation 2027 SUV.
“There will be no Telluride in 2026.”
That statement is misleading. There is no 2026-model-year Telluride, but 2025 leftovers and 2027 Tellurides can be sold during calendar year 2026.
“The new Telluride is still expected to arrive in early 2026.”
That was the pre-launch schedule. Kia now lists the 2027 Telluride and 2027 Telluride Hybrid in its U.S. lineup, with configurations and pricing available.
“The 2027 Telluride still has the V6.”
For the U.S. market, it does not. The redesigned model uses a turbocharged four-cylinder as standard, with a turbo-hybrid option.
