Jeep vehicles are made by Stellantis N.V., the multinational automaker that also owns Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and Peugeot. They are not all built in the United States: the assembly plant depends on the model, model year, powertrain and sales market.

For the 2026 U.S. market, Wrangler and Gladiator production remains in Toledo, Ohio, while Grand Cherokee and the full-size Wagoneer family are built in Michigan. Several newer models, including the Cherokee, Compass and Wagoneer S, are assembled in Mexico.

Who makes Jeep vehicles?

Jeep is a brand of Stellantis N.V., not a standalone automaker. Stellantis designs, engineers, manufactures and sells Jeep vehicles as part of a portfolio that includes Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and Peugeot.

Stellantis was formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merged with Groupe PSA. That is why older references may say that Jeeps are made by Chrysler or Fiat Chrysler. Chrysler is still a Stellantis brand, but Stellantis is the current parent company of Jeep.

Where current U.S.-market Jeeps are built

The following locations cover the principal assembly plants for current U.S.-market Jeep models. A vehicle built for another country can come from a different factory, and production assignments can change between model years.

Jeep model Primary assembly location Country
Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe Toledo Assembly Complex, Toledo, Ohio United States
Gladiator Toledo Assembly Complex, Toledo, Ohio United States
Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L Detroit Assembly Complex, Detroit, Michigan United States
Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Warren Truck Assembly Plant, Warren, Michigan United States
Wagoneer S Toluca Assembly Plant, Toluca Mexico
2026 Cherokee Toluca Assembly Plant, Toluca Mexico
2026 Compass Toluca Assembly Plant, Toluca Mexico
2026 Recon Mexico listed as the final-assembly country in NHTSA data Mexico

Jeep models built in the United States

Wrangler and Gladiator: Toledo, Ohio

The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are assembled at the Toledo Assembly Complex. Toledo has a particularly strong connection with Jeep: the Wrangler program and the Gladiator pickup are both based there.

That includes the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. Its electrified powertrain does not mean the vehicle is assigned to a separate country or unrelated Jeep plant; the model is part of the Toledo production program.

Grand Cherokee: Detroit, Michigan

The current Grand Cherokee and longer-wheelbase Grand Cherokee L are assembled at the Detroit Assembly Complex, including the Mack and Jefferson facilities. Grand Cherokee production has been associated with Detroit since the nameplate was introduced in 1992.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe is also part of this model family. As with any Jeep, equipment, drivetrain and destination market should be checked on the individual vehicle rather than inferred solely from the badge.

Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer: Warren, Michigan

The Wagoneer, Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L are assembled at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. Stellantis has said that electrified Wagoneer variants can be produced on the same line as internal-combustion versions, rather than requiring a completely separate final-assembly facility.

Jeep models built in Mexico

Toluca: Wagoneer S, Cherokee and Compass

Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant builds the Jeep Wagoneer S and is the listed assembly location for the 2026 Cherokee and 2026 Compass sold in the United States.

Stellantis has also announced plans to reopen its Belvidere, Illinois, plant for future Cherokee and Compass production, with initial production expected in 2027. That announcement should not be confused with the assembly location of every 2026 vehicle: current vehicles may still carry a Toluca final-assembly designation.

The new Jeep Recon is another case where production timing and market allocation matter. NHTSA’s 2026 American Automobile Labeling Act data lists Mexico as its final-assembly country, but detailed production schedules can vary as the program launches.

Where Jeeps are built for other markets

Jeep uses a global manufacturing network. The same model name can represent vehicles assembled in different countries, particularly when a model is sold across North America, Europe, Asia and South America.

The Compass demonstrates why a model name is not enough to identify a factory. Different generations and regional versions have been assembled in Mexico, Italy, Brazil, India and elsewhere.

Does U.S. assembly mean a Jeep is made entirely in America?

No. Final assembly location and parts origin are different measurements. A Wrangler assembled in Ohio can contain components sourced from the United States, Canada and other countries. The country where the vehicle receives its final assembly does not establish that every part was produced there.

For U.S.-market vehicles, the American Automobile Labeling Act information separates several facts, including:

  • the vehicle’s final assembly country;
  • the percentage of U.S. and Canadian content;
  • the country of origin for major components such as the engine and transmission; and
  • the vehicle’s overall fuel-economy and emissions information.

These figures can differ between trims and powertrains. A U.S.-assembled Wrangler and a Mexico-assembled Compass should not be compared using assembly country alone if the question is domestic parts content.

How to find where your specific Jeep was built

For a particular vehicle, use the vehicle’s own identification documents instead of relying on a general model guide.

  1. Open the driver’s door. Look at the certification label attached to the door jamb or door pillar. It includes the vehicle’s manufacturing and certification information.
  2. Check the U.S. window sticker. The Monroney label identifies the final-assembly country and provides content information for vehicles covered by U.S. labeling requirements.
  3. Match the VIN and model year. Confirm that the label belongs to the exact vehicle you are considering. A model’s assembly plant can change between generations, years or markets.
  4. Use NHTSA AALA data for comparison. NHTSA publishes American Automobile Labeling Act reports with final-assembly country, content percentages and major parts information.

The door-jamb label and window sticker are more dependable than a dealer listing, a forum post or the assumption that every vehicle with the same name came from the same plant.

Common mistakes about Jeep manufacturing

“All Jeeps are made in America.”

That is incorrect. Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee and several Wagoneer models are built in the United States, but other Jeeps are assembled in Mexico, Italy, Brazil, India and other countries depending on the model and market.

“Jeep is made by Chrysler.”

This is an outdated description of the current corporate structure. Jeep and Chrysler are both brands owned by Stellantis. Chrysler or Fiat Chrysler may still be the correct historical reference for an older vehicle.

“The name tells you the plant.”

Not reliably. A model may be assembled at several plants for different regions, generations or powertrains. Compass production is a clear example.

“Built in the U.S.” means all parts are U.S.-made.

It does not. Final assembly is only one part of a vehicle’s manufacturing history. Check the vehicle’s AALA information if parts content matters to your purchase.

Which Jeeps are made in the United States?

The Bottom Line

Jeep vehicles are made by Stellantis, and their assembly locations vary by model. U.S.-market Wranglers and Gladiators come from Toledo, Grand Cherokees from Detroit, and Wagoneers from Warren. The 2026 Cherokee, Compass and Wagoneer S are associated with Toluca, Mexico. Because plants can change by model year and market, verify a specific Jeep using its door-jamb certification label or window sticker.
