The broad New Vehicle Limited Warranty is listed as 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. It does not make routine servicing, wear items, or every recommended repair free.
Other systems have their own time, mileage, ownership, and eligibility rules. The often-quoted 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain term applies to the original owner of qualifying vehicles and selected engine and transmission/transaxle components; later owners generally receive the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage for those powertrain components. Your vehicle’s model-year handbook and warranty record control the final answer.

Hyundai warranty coverage at a glance
Hyundai Motor America publishes separate limits for different systems. The following figures come from Hyundai’s 2026 warranty overview unless a model year is identified in the row.
| Coverage category | Published term | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| New Vehicle Limited Warranty | 5 years/60,000 miles | For qualifying defects in Hyundai-manufactured or originally installed components under normal use and maintenance. |
| Powertrain Limited Warranty | 10 years/100,000 miles | Extended term is described for the original owner and selected engine and transmission/transaxle components. Commercial-use vehicles are excluded from this extended original-owner coverage. |
| Powertrain coverage for subsequent owners | 5 years/60,000 miles | Second and subsequent owners generally receive the New Vehicle Limited Warranty term for powertrain components. |
| Anti-perforation | 7 years/unlimited miles | A separate category; it is not a promise of unlimited coverage for every body, paint, or corrosion issue. |
| Roadside assistance | 5 years/unlimited miles | A separate assistance program, not the same as paying for a defective-part repair. |
| Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric battery and systems | 10 years/100,000 miles | Exact covered systems and exclusions vary by vehicle and handbook. The 2026 handbook describes a 70% battery-capacity threshold for capacity-loss coverage. |
| Adjustments (2025 model-year summary) | 1 year/12,000 miles | Applies to the 2025 model-year component summary; verify other model years separately. |
| Paint (2025 model-year summary) | 3 years/36,000 miles | Use the matching model-year warranty materials. |
| Air-conditioner refrigerant charge (2025 model-year summary) | 1 year/unlimited miles | This is a refrigerant-charge category, not a blanket term for every air-conditioning repair. |
| 12-volt battery (2025 model-year summary) | 3 years/36,000 miles | Confirm the applicable term for the vehicle’s model year and battery type. |
Emissions equipment, replacement parts, and accessories have separate written terms. A component therefore can have a shorter or otherwise different limit from the headline new-vehicle warranty.

What the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty means
This is the general defect warranty. If a covered component was manufactured or originally installed by Hyundai and fails because of a material or factory-workmanship defect while the vehicle is used and maintained normally, Hyundai’s warranty process is intended to provide repair or replacement according to the handbook.
The duration is measured by both time and mileage: reaching either five years or 60,000 miles ends this general term. The first in-service date, rather than the date a later owner bought the vehicle, is important when determining how much time remains. A dealer can check the recorded warranty start date and mileage.
The defect standard matters as much as the clock. A scheduled service, a consumable part reaching the end of its useful life, or a recommendation made because of your driving conditions is not automatically a warrantable defect. When a dealer says a repair is customer-pay, ask which component failed, what finding was made, and which handbook provision governs the decision.

How the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty works
Original-owner coverage
Hyundai advertises a 10-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty for the original owner of qualifying vehicles. It covers selected engine and transmission/transaxle components, not every part under the hood or every drivability concern. The exact component list and exclusions are in the vehicle’s handbook.

Transfer to a later owner
The extended powertrain term is ownership-sensitive. Hyundai states that second and subsequent owners receive powertrain coverage under the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Buying a used Hyundai does not normally transfer the full 10-year/100,000-mile original-owner benefit.
Commercial use
Commercial-use vehicles are excluded from the extended original-owner powertrain coverage described in Hyundai’s overview. If the vehicle was used for business, delivery, livery, or another commercial purpose, have the dealer verify the applicable limitation rather than relying on the advertised headline.
Separate limits for body, roadside, and electrical systems
Anti-perforation
Anti-perforation coverage has a 7-year/unlimited-mile term in Hyundai’s overview. It is a distinct category, so that figure should not be read as seven years of coverage for every cosmetic finish, panel issue, or paint concern.
Roadside assistance
The overview lists roadside assistance for 5 years/unlimited miles. Assistance benefits and conditions are separate from defect-repair coverage: having roadside eligibility does not mean Hyundai will pay for a failed part or routine service.

Hybrid and electric vehicles
Hyundai lists 10 years/100,000 miles for hybrid and electric battery and system coverage. Battery capacity loss has its own rule. The 2026 Owner’s Handbook and Warranty Information describes coverage at a 70% capacity threshold and identifies exclusions. A battery that has degraded but remains above the stated threshold may not qualify under that capacity-loss provision. Check the handbook for the exact powertrain, measurement method, and exclusions on your vehicle.
Does Hyundai’s warranty include maintenance?
Warranty repair and complimentary maintenance are different benefits. For eligible new 2025 model-year vehicles, Hyundai’s complimentary-maintenance terms provide four basic maintenance services within 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
What the basic service includes
- Hyundai-approved engine oil and oil-filter changes, except for electric and fuel-cell electric vehicles.
- A multi-point inspection.
- Tire rotation.
The benefit follows the vehicle’s normal maintenance schedule and must be performed by an authorized Hyundai servicing dealer. It is not an unlimited number of visits or a prepaid plan for every item listed in the owner’s manual.
Who is eligible
The cited 2025 program excludes commercial, certified pre-owned, used, and fleet vehicles. The benefit is generally nontransferable, with an exception for transfers between spouses. Program terms can vary by state and may change, so a vehicle bought in another circumstance needs its own eligibility check.

Services and parts that can cost extra
Wear items
The complimentary-maintenance terms specifically exclude normal wear items such as engine and air filters, cabin filters, wiper blades, and brake pads. Replacing one because it is dirty, worn, or due under your schedule is normally an owner expense rather than a warranty repair.
Additional or severe-use maintenance
Extra services and parts beyond the included basic visits are excluded. If the owner’s manual calls for more frequent maintenance because of severe driving conditions, those additional services are also outside the complimentary benefit. Examples of severe use must be taken from the manual for your model; do not assume the standard interval applies to towing, repeated short trips, dusty roads, or other demanding use.
Inspection items and recommendations
An item marked “inspect” in the owner’s manual is not automatically a free replacement. A dealer may charge for the inspection or for work recommended after the inspection when it is outside the included basic services. Ask for the inspection finding and a written estimate before authorizing additional work.

Hyundai treats replacement parts and accessories as their own warranty category. The applicable term can depend on whether the part is genuine, when it was purchased, and whether an authorized dealer installed it. Do not assume a replacement part receives the vehicle’s full 5-year/60,000-mile warranty. Keep the invoice and obtain the written warranty that applies to that part.

What a warranty claim may require
A headline term cannot determine every claim. Coverage can turn on the model year, first in-service date, odometer, ownership history, vehicle use, affected component, maintenance records, and the handbook for that vehicle.
- Identify the vehicle. Gather the vehicle identification number, model year, current mileage, first in-service date if known, and title or ownership information.
- Describe the symptom precisely. Note warning lights, noises, operating conditions, when the problem began, and whether it appears during normal or severe use.
- Bring maintenance evidence. Service invoices, parts receipts, and the maintenance log help establish that required care was performed. They also show whether a requested service is routine maintenance rather than a defect claim.
- Use an authorized Hyundai dealer. Ask the service adviser to check the vehicle’s warranty record and identify the component and coverage category being considered.
- Request the decision in writing. If coverage is denied, ask for the reason, the handbook provision relied on, the diagnostic finding, and a customer-pay estimate that separates parts, labor, and any additional recommended work.
- Compare the finding with the correct handbook. Make sure the dealer is using the handbook for your model year and powertrain, not a generic web summary or a different vehicle’s terms.
Questions to ask before approving a bill
- Is the failed item a Hyundai-original component, a replacement part, an accessory, or a maintenance item?
- Is the concern being classified as a defect, normal wear, an adjustment, or a scheduled inspection?
- Which time-and-mileage limit applies, and has either limit been reached?
- Does ownership history change the powertrain term?
- Was the vehicle’s use classified as commercial or severe?
- For a hybrid or EV battery, which capacity threshold and exclusion are being applied?
- Which work is required to correct a covered defect, and which work is optional or due as maintenance?
How to read Hyundai’s warranty promises without overestimating them
Think of the warranty as a set of targeted contracts, not one blanket payment promise. Start with the failed component and defect standard, then check the applicable term, owner status, use restrictions, and exclusions. Maintenance benefits should be evaluated separately because they cover a limited schedule and a defined list of services.
The figures in Hyundai’s 2026 overview and the 2025 model-year maintenance and component summaries are useful starting points, but they are not substitutes for the handbook supplied with your vehicle. The 2026 handbook should be used for 2026 vehicles, and earlier or later model years may have different category terms.
Bottom line for owners and used-car buyers
For a qualifying defect, the broad baseline is 5 years/60,000 miles. The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain promise is narrower: it is tied to original ownership, selected engine and transmission/transaxle parts, and excludes commercial-use vehicles from the extended term. Anti-perforation, roadside assistance, batteries, paint, adjustments, refrigerant, and 12-volt batteries each have their own limits.
Budget separately for filters, wiper blades, brake pads, extra or severe-use maintenance, inspections, and work outside the covered defect. Before paying or disputing a claim, have an authorized dealer match the symptom to your vehicle’s model-year handbook and warranty record.
