A Bugatti Veyron oil change can cost about $20,000–$25,000 because technicians must dismantle much of the car to reach a dry-sump system with 16 drain plugs. The often-cited $21,000 and 27 hours describe a filmed service reported by Motor Authority in 2018—not a universal Bugatti price list.
Why a Veyron oil change is a teardown job
On an ordinary car, an oil service usually means lifting the vehicle, removing one drain plug, changing a filter and refilling the crankcase. The Veyron’s mid-mounted 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W-16 is packaged tightly inside a complex body and underbody structure, so routine access becomes the main labor task.

In the Royalty Exotic Cars video covered by Motor Authority, technicians begin with wheel jacks rather than treating the car like a normal vehicle on a standard lift. They remove the rear bumper, side panels, inner wheel liners and other body and underbody pieces. The top engine cover and surrounding panels then come off so the powertrain can be reached.
A Bugatti dealer, Bugatti Broward, describes the same basic challenge: the Veyron’s dry-sump oiling system requires removal of the grille, fender liners, rear deck and rear brakes to drain and refill the oil correctly. Those access operations, not the act of pouring in oil, account for much of the elapsed time.

What happens during the filmed 27-hour service
- Positioning and lifting: Wheel jacks are used to start raising the car. The unusual procedure reflects the Veyron’s low clearance and vulnerable bodywork.
- Bodywork removal: Rear and side exterior panels, wheel liners and underbody sections are removed to expose service points.
- Engine access: The top cover and adjacent panels are taken off around the W-16.
- Warming the oil: The engine is run until the heavy oil flows more readily.
- Draining: Technicians remove 16 drain plugs. The filmed service drains approximately 15.6 litres (16.5 US quarts).
- Inspection and ancillary work: The video includes replacement of tired or damaged parts. Replacing the air filters also requires removing a large section of bodywork.
- Refilling and reassembly: The system is refilled, panels and liners are reinstalled, and the car is checked before it leaves service.
Motor Authority attributed the 27-hour duration and $21,000 cost to the video in 2018. CarThrottle’s account, updated October 10, 2024, likewise follows the lengthy lifting, draining and parts-replacement process. Neither report establishes that every Veyron receives exactly the same labor time or invoice.
How the Veyron’s dry-sump system changes the job
In a dry-sump design, much of the engine oil is stored outside the crankcase and circulated through external tanks and passages. That arrangement helps a high-performance engine maintain oil control under hard acceleration and cornering, but it creates more oil galleries and service points than a conventional wet-sump passenger car.

The dealer’s description identifies 16 drain plugs. Each plug must be located, removed and correctly reinstalled; missing one or leaving a sealing problem can cause an oil leak or an incorrect fill level. Access to the plugs is spread across the engine and dry-sump system, which is why removing panels and wheel-liner sections is part of the scheduled work rather than cosmetic disassembly.

How much oil and what viscosity does it use?
The filmed car receives about 15.6 litres (16.5 US quarts). The reports identify the oil as a thick 60W grade. That quantity and viscosity belong to the documented service example; they are not a substitute for a VIN-specific factory parts and fluids record.

- Set Includes Two: Our oil can pump oiler set comes with two cans, giving you the flexibility to have one ready for different types of oil or to keep an extra on hand. This keeps that you always have a clean and efficient way to dispense oil
The public accounts do not establish the exact approved oil brand, a current Bugatti specification number or a universal fill quantity for every Veyron configuration. An owner should obtain the required specification and filter from an authorised Bugatti service centre before ordering materials. “SAE 60” on a bottle alone does not prove approval for this engine.
Is $21,000 the normal price?
Bugatti Broward quotes a usual Veyron oil-change range of $20,000–$25,000 (information accessed in 2026). That range is broader than the $21,000 figure because labor rates, inspection findings, replacement parts, taxes, regional costs and the car’s condition can change the invoice.

The $21,000 number came from one filmed example reported by Motor Authority in 2018. No public invoice in the available accounts breaks that total into labor, oil, filters, seals, inspection or repairs, so it should not be read as a fixed factory tariff or as the price of oil alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan you change a Veyron’s oil yourself?
Technically, a skilled specialist could reproduce the physical steps, but the filmed DIY-style approach is not factory approval. The reporting warns that certified-service procedures can differ, and the dealer explicitly recommends professional service.

Why home servicing is unusually risky
- Safe lifting: The Veyron’s low, expensive bodywork requires an appropriate lifting and support method; ordinary jack placement can damage panels or structure.
- Access and reassembly: Bumpers, liners, brakes, rear deck sections and underbody panels must be removed and aligned without damaging fasteners, seals or carbon-fiber parts.
- Sixteen sealing points: Every drain plug needs the correct seal, torque and leak check. The available public reports do not provide a complete torque chart.
- Dry-sump filling: Oil level depends on the manufacturer’s procedure and temperature conditions, not simply on pouring in a stated number of quarts.
- Inspection responsibility: The service is an opportunity to find worn or damaged components. A home drain-and-fill can miss problems hidden behind the removed panels.
- Documentation and provenance: Collectors and insurers may require documented work, approved parts and a traceable service history.
For those reasons, owners should use a Bugatti-authorised facility or an independent exotic-car shop that can document Veyron-specific procedures, equipment and parts. A written estimate should state the access work, inspection scope, fluids, filters, seals, reassembly checks and any additional repairs before work begins.
