Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R
Mazda unveiled the Roadster 12R at Tokyo Auto Salon on January 10, 2025. It is a road car limited to 200 units, according to Mazda Motor Corporation’s 2025 announcement. Its 2.0-liter engine is rated at 200 horsepower.

The 12R’s significance is its development path rather than its badge alone. Mazda says the car uses suspension settings developed through Super Taikyu racing and is hand-assembled. Executive Nobuhiro Maeda said the company could have cancelled production if the car’s track results had not justified it. He also stated: “We don’t see Mazda Spirit Racing as a sub-brand that uses racing merely as a marketing tool to launch cars.”

Those statements make the 12R a genuine limited road-car derivative of Mazda’s racing work, not a race prototype with registration added afterward. Mazda’s announcement does not establish worldwide allocation, pricing or availability, so buyers must confirm the market-specific situation with Mazda.

MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER
Mazda also sells a broader MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER production model. The Japanese product information lists or offers performance-focused equipment including sports tires, a sports brake set, a sports alignment kit and a Mazda Spirit Racing × Sabelt four-point harness.
The page does not state a fixed production volume equivalent to the 12R’s 200 cars. Equipment can also vary by specification, so the Japanese listing should not be treated as a universal specification for every country. It is a customer road-car configuration, not one of Mazda’s ST-Q development entries.

What the Mazda Spirit Racing race concepts do
Mazda3 Bio concept (2024)
The MAZDA SPIRIT RACING MAZDA3 Bio concept was one of three entries Mazda named for its April 2024 Super Taikyu program. The “Bio” designation identifies an early competition and development effort centered on biofuel-oriented work. It was presented as a race concept, not as a production Mazda3 Spirit Racing trim.
Therefore, the answer to “Is there a Mazda3 Spirit Racing?” is qualified: Mazda has revealed a Mazda3 Bio race concept, but the official material covered here does not document a production Mazda3 Spirit Racing road car.

Roadster CNF concept (2024)
The MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER CNF concept was the other early Roadster-based development entry in the 2024 announcement. “CNF” refers to carbon-neutral-fuel work. Like the Mazda3 Bio, it belongs to Mazda’s historical race-development lineup rather than the customer road-car range.
3 Future concept
Mazda introduced the MAZDA SPIRIT RACING 3 Future concept in its 2025 Super Taikyu announcement and continued it through the 2026 season. The ST-Q works listing identifies it as car 55.

- Crafted from durable materials such as 100% die - cast metal and premium rubber tires
- Our high - end casting method allows for feature rich details, such as an opening hood, doors , detailed interior, and trunk
- Scale is 1:24
- Collect them all
- Suitable for ages 8+
Mazda uses the 3 Future to validate future technologies in competition, including onboard CO2-capture work and alternative fuels. ST-Q is a development category, so the car should be understood as an engineering demonstrator rather than a catalog model or a promise of a future showroom Mazda3.
RS Future concept
The MAZDA SPIRIT RACING RS Future concept is the second ST-Q works car, identified as car 12. Mazda associates it with future sports-car development and renewable or low-carbon fuels.

Mazda’s 2025 Sustainability Report records that, since the 2023 season, the RS Future has used renewable fuel synthesized from ethanol derived from non-edible biomass. The same report says Mazda ran it on ENEOS E20 low-carbon fuel at the 2025 Fuji Super TEC 24 Hour Race. These are documented competition applications, not claims that an equivalent fuel package is available in the production Roadster.

The Club MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER is a separate Roadster race entry aimed at club or customer competition. Mazda named it alongside the works cars in both the 2025 and 2026 Super Taikyu announcements.
It should not be confused with either production Roadster. The Club Roadster is a race car competing alongside Mazda’s ST-Q development vehicles, while the 12R and the broader MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER are road-going products. Mazda’s official material does not give a production quantity or a general retail road-car specification for the Club entry.
How the lineup developed from 2024 through 2026
- 2024: Mazda announced the Mazda3 Bio concept, Roadster CNF concept and Club Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster for Super Taikyu.
- 2025: The works lineup changed to the 3 Future concept and RS Future concept, with the Club Roadster continuing. Mazda also unveiled the production Roadster 12R on January 10.
- 2026: Mazda continued the 3 Future, RS Future and Club Roadster in Super Taikyu. Its current race information places the 3 Future and RS Future in ST-Q development classes and lists Roadster, Mazda2 and Demio cars in other classes.
Production model or race concept: how to tell the difference
- Roadster 12R: a documented, 200-unit road-car production run with a 2.0-liter, 200-hp engine.
- MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER: a production Roadster specification with listed performance hardware or options; no matching volume is stated.
- 3 Future and RS Future: ST-Q works cars used for technology validation, not ordinary trim levels.
- Mazda3 Bio and Roadster CNF: 2024 historical race concepts associated with biofuel and carbon-neutral-fuel development.
- Club Roadster: a separate club/customer competition entry, not the retail Roadster.
The race concepts are presented as competition vehicles, so road legality and retail access should not be assumed. Mazda has not published a complete global sales map for the production models; availability, allocation and equipment require verification in the relevant market.
Why Mazda calls Spirit Racing an engineering program
Mazda describes Spirit Racing as a way to move lessons from motorsport into customer products while testing technologies that are not ready for normal showroom use. The 12R demonstrates the customer-product side of that strategy through race-derived suspension work and hand assembly. The 3 Future and RS Future demonstrate the validation side through ST-Q competition, CO2-capture research, future sports-car development and lower-carbon fuels.
