Volkswagen recalled certain 2024–2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs because an engine cover may have been improperly installed after service. If it comes loose and touches hot engine surfaces, it can melt and increase the risk of fire. Volkswagen’s remedy is free removal of the engine cover by a dealer.
Which Volkswagen SUVs are affected?
The recall covers certain 2024–2025 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs under NHTSA campaign 25V100000, Volkswagen recall code 10X5. Reuters reported that the U.S. recall population was 177,493 vehicles in 2025; that is the reported population, not confirmation that every vehicle in those model years is included. Check the vehicle identification number (VIN) to determine whether a specific SUV has an open recall. Cars.com’s reproduced NHTSA recall listing identifies the campaign and affected models, while Reuters reported the population figure.
What is the fire risk?
The engine cover may have been installed incorrectly after vehicle service and could come loose. If it contacts hot engine surfaces, it may melt, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. The recall describes a potential hazard; it does not mean that every vehicle included in the population will catch fire.
What is Volkswagen’s remedy?
Volkswagen’s remedy is for an authorized dealer to remove the engine cover at no charge. The owner notification letters were mailed March 7, 2025, according to the recall listing. Do not buy a replacement cover or attempt to treat a separate repair as a substitute for having the recall addressed.

How to check your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport
- Find the SUV’s 17-character VIN. It is commonly visible at the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side and on vehicle registration documents.
- Enter the VIN in Volkswagen’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- If the lookup shows this recall as unrepaired, contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer to arrange the free engine-cover removal. Volkswagen advises owners to have safety recalls completed without delay. Volkswagen recall information
If the recall does not appear in a VIN search
NHTSA’s lookup shows unrepaired recalls for supported manufacturers. A completed recall will not appear as an unrepaired recall, and some newly announced recalls may not yet have all affected VINs identified. If you believe your vehicle may be involved but no result appears, check again later and follow any interim guidance from Volkswagen. NHTSA says the manufacturer’s recall remedy should be free.
