The Touareg FINAL EDITION marks the last production year in Volkswagen’s main European announcement. Timing is market-specific: Volkswagen Ukraine says its production continues through 2027.
When is Volkswagen discontinuing the Touareg?
Volkswagen’s 16 October 2025 newsroom announcement states: “Production of the Touareg combustion engine model ends in 2026.” That is the applicable schedule for the European program described in the announcement. It does not establish one worldwide shutdown date.

Volkswagen says more than 1.2 million Touaregs have been sold across three generations. The company presented the FINAL EDITION as the model’s final production-year version.
Ukraine has a later schedule
A Volkswagen Ukraine notice dated 16 March 2026 says Touareg production for Ukraine continues through 2027 and that the market receives a specific FINAL EDITION configuration. Buyers outside Ukraine should confirm ordering and delivery dates with a local Volkswagen retailer rather than applying either timetable universally.

Can you still order a Touareg FINAL EDITION?
In the European announcement, Volkswagen said the FINAL EDITION was orderable until the end of March 2026, with prices starting at €75,025. That deadline has passed as of October 2026. A car may still be obtainable from existing dealer allocation or stock, but availability, specification and price are now country- and dealer-dependent; Volkswagen’s announcement does not promise additional European orders after March.

Is there a replacement for the VW Touareg?
No named Touareg successor appears in the official materials cited for this announcement. Volkswagen Group’s 7 September 2026 Future Plan says its model lineup will be concentrated on attractive segments and streamlined by up to 50%, with offering complexity targeted for a reduction of up to 75%. Those plans support describing the Touareg as ending without an announced replacement, but they do not prove that Volkswagen has permanently ruled out every future large SUV.

For buyers who need a large, premium Volkswagen SUV, the practical choice is therefore between locating a remaining Touareg and evaluating whatever larger-SUV products are actually sold in their market. Do not assume that another Volkswagen model is a direct size, equipment or powertrain substitute without checking its local specifications.

Powertrain and emissions rules
The announced model is the combustion-engine Touareg. Check registration taxes, emissions zones, towing requirements and fuel availability in your country before committing to a late-production vehicle.

Timing and scarcity
A FINAL EDITION ordered under the stated deadline is a last-production-year vehicle. After that window, remaining cars are finite dealer stock, and a particular color or equipment combination may not be replaceable. Ukraine’s later schedule is a market exception, not evidence of a global extension.
Price and specification
€75,025 was the starting price quoted in Volkswagen’s October 2025 announcement, not a universal October 2026 transaction price. Compare the vehicle’s actual local list price, taxes, options, delivery charges and warranty terms.

Size and luxury equipment
Confirm dimensions, seating, cargo capacity, towing rating and standard equipment against the alternative vehicle’s local specification. “Large SUV” labels do not guarantee equivalent cabin space or capability.
What happens to Touareg parts and servicing after production ends?
Ending production is not the same as announcing an immediate service cutoff. The official materials cited here do not set a Touareg parts or maintenance end date. Owners should keep the vehicle’s service records, use the maintenance schedule for their engine and market, and ask an authorized Volkswagen retailer about parts availability, software support, recalls and warranty coverage for a specific vehicle.

Before buying a late-production or used Touareg, ask the seller to document its build specification, recall status, service history and remaining warranty. For a vehicle intended for many years of ownership, obtain a local dealer’s written answer on routine-service lead times and any high-value components relevant to that version.
What the end of the Touareg means
The current evidence supports a precise conclusion: Volkswagen’s European program is scheduled to end Touareg combustion-engine production in 2026, the FINAL EDITION identifies the final production year, and no replacement has been announced. Ukraine reports production through 2027, so the date depends on the market. Anyone seeking one should verify local stock or ordering status now, while existing cars remain supported through the normal terms Volkswagen provides for that market.
