The savings depend on the exact local listings and their condition; the power difference depends on whether the GV80 has the 300-hp 2.5T or 375-hp 3.5T engine. Compare those details with the new Highlander’s trim, price, and family-use requirements before deciding.
Start with the exact vehicles and their real prices
There is no verified pair of used-GV80 and new-Highlander listings here that establishes a $15,000 saving. Treat that figure as a possible deal to verify, not a general market fact. The official prices below are new-vehicle manufacturer figures, not used-market comparisons.

The GV80 prices are for new 2025 configurations, while the Highlander figure is for a new 2026 XLE. They do not prove that a used GV80 costs less. For an actual comparison, get written, local out-the-door quotes for the Highlander and the specific GV80, including taxes, fees, dealer-installed options, and any required conditions on advertised offers. Keep financing and trade-in effects separate so they do not obscure the vehicle-price difference.
Check the used GV80’s identity and history
Record its model year, engine, trim, odometer reading, title status, accident and service history, condition, and certification status. Compare equipment as well: a higher-trim GV80 may have features the chosen Highlander lacks, but the exact vehicles—not the model names alone—determine what is included. A $15,000 gap is meaningful only after these differences are visible.

How much more power does the GV80 have?
Toyota rates the 2026 gas Highlander at 265 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. Genesis lists two distinct engine outputs for the 2025 GV80: the 2.5T makes 300 hp, or 35 hp more than the Highlander; the 3.5T makes 375 hp, or 110 hp more. The phrase “way more power” fits the larger 3.5T gap more than the 2.5T gap. Confirm the engine on the individual used vehicle rather than assuming all GV80s have the stronger engine.
Fuel-economy figures are not on the same basis in these published specifications. Genesis lists the GV80 figures as city/highway mpg, while Toyota gives the Highlander an estimated combined 24 mpg. They cannot be directly compared as equivalent ratings. The listed figures do show that the 3.5T GV80’s city and highway ratings are lower than those listed for the 2.5T, so a buyer considering the more powerful engine should weigh its fuel use alongside its performance.

Which better fits passengers, cargo, and towing?
Toyota says the 2026 gas Highlander offers seating for seven or eight, depending on configuration, and a 5,000-pound towing capacity. Those manufacturer specifications make it important to check the exact seating arrangement and whether the vehicle is properly equipped for the trailer you intend to tow. Do not assume either figure applies to every GV80 configuration: the cited Genesis specifications do not establish a comparable seating or towing figure for the GV80.
Before choosing, map the vehicle to your actual routine: how many people ride regularly, whether you need a third row, how much cargo travels with those passengers, and what you tow. Then inspect the exact vehicle’s seat layout and equipment. A more powerful engine is not a substitute for confirming that the cabin and cargo space work for your household.

Compare warranty coverage by date, mileage, and paperwork
New Highlander coverage
Toyota states that the new Highlander has a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty and 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain coverage. Toyota describes the basic warranty as covering components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Confirm the coverage and start date for the vehicle you are buying in the warranty documents.
Used GV80 coverage and CPO status
Genesis says its CPO program requires eligible vehicles to be five model years old or newer, have fewer than 60,000 miles, and have a clean title. Eligible CPO gas vehicles receive a 191-point inspection and a vehicle-history report. Genesis describes CPO coverage as a six-year/75,000-mile extended limited warranty and the remainder of the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, measured from the original in-service date—not from the date you buy the used vehicle. Ask the retailer to confirm in writing whether the specific GV80 is certified, its original in-service date, the remaining time and mileage for each warranty, and the documents governing coverage. Certification and an inspection report provide additional information, but do not replace your review of the vehicle’s history, present condition, and coverage terms.

Make the decision on the trade-offs that matter to you
The used GV80 may be the better fit if
- The particular vehicle is clean, has the engine and equipment you want, and its verified out-the-door price is genuinely lower than the Highlander quote.
- You value the GV80’s additional horsepower—especially the 3.5T’s 375 hp—enough to accept the specific vehicle’s fuel-economy ratings and used-car condition risk.
- You have reviewed its title and service history, obtained an independent condition assessment if appropriate, and understand any remaining factory or CPO coverage.
The new Highlander may be the better fit if
- You need its stated seven- or eight-seat configuration or its manufacturer-listed 5,000-pound towing capacity, after confirming the exact configuration suits your use.
- You prefer a new vehicle with Toyota’s stated new-vehicle warranty rather than evaluating a used vehicle’s mileage, history, and remaining warranty.
- The actual local price difference is small enough that the GV80’s age, mileage, fuel-economy figures, or coverage terms outweigh its extra power and equipment.

- Get comparable quotes: Request an itemized out-the-door price for the new Highlander trim and used GV80 you are considering. Record the date, location, included options, fees, taxes, and any offer conditions.
- Verify the GV80: Match its VIN, year, engine, trim, mileage, title, history, service records, and advertised equipment to the vehicle and its documents.
- Check coverage: Confirm CPO eligibility and status, the original in-service date, and remaining warranty limits in writing.

- Compare the total deal: Review financing terms and trade-in value separately from the vehicle prices, then compare the final costs and the risks you are willing to accept.
