Three very different vehicles were reported in a Jalopnik roundup dated October 2, 2026: a project 1994 Nissan Cedric, a stretched 2022 Range Rover, and a 2025 Hyundai Elantra N TCR EVO competition car. Their reported asking prices were $5,000, $69,000 and $99,000 respectively. Those figures are a dated snapshot of marketplace listings, not verified current offers. None of the sources confirms that a listing remains live, that a seller still has the vehicle, or that any car has passed an independent inspection.
The useful way to view the trio is by mission. The Cedric is an unfinished VIP-style project with a known drivetrain fault; the Range Rover is a luxury limousine conversion whose engineering history is unknown; and the Elantra is a race car that should not be treated as a road-legal sports sedan. The checks required before spending money are therefore completely different.

Because the amounts came from a single October 2, 2026 report, they should be treated as asking prices at that time. A screenshot, cached post or repost is not proof that a seller will honor the number now. Confirm the live post, seller identity and vehicle documents before arranging travel or sending a deposit.

1994 Nissan Cedric: a cheap entry to a demanding project
What the listing tells you
The Cedric was presented as an unfinished VIP build rather than a ready-to-drive classic. The reported transmission slips and the car has no reverse gear. Those are not cosmetic defects: they can indicate worn clutch packs, hydraulic problems, damaged gears, a failing valve body or an engine-to-transmission issue. Without a road test and a lift inspection, the fault cannot be narrowed down.

A transmission replacement may be sensible, but the suggestion of using a Nissan CD009 is only an idea from the listing coverage, not confirmed fitment advice. A swap can require an adapter or bellhousing solution, custom mounts, a driveshaft, clutch and flywheel choices, wiring, shifter placement, differential compatibility and changes to the transmission tunnel. Parts availability and inspection rules also vary by country and state. Price the complete conversion, not just a used gearbox.
Inspect the car in the order that limits risk
- Establish identity. Photograph the VIN on the body, compare it with the title and check that the stamped number has not been altered. Record the chassis code, engine number where applicable and odometer reading.
- Check the shell. Inspect suspension pickup points, floor pans, rocker panels, wheel arches, firewall and windshield surround for rust or previous collision repairs. A VIP build can hide corrosion beneath body kits, sound deadening or fresh underseal.
- Test the drivetrain. With the engine cold, verify that every forward gear engages, the clutch releases cleanly and the transmission does not produce abnormal noise. Test reverse only if the seller can do so safely; the report says it is currently unavailable.
- Map the unfinished work. Photograph wiring, air suspension, audio equipment, interior panels, wheels and any parts supplied with the car. Separate installed components from loose parts and identify missing fasteners, brackets and trim.
- Get an independent estimate. Ask a shop familiar with imported vehicles to quote both a repair of the existing transmission and a properly engineered replacement. Require labor, fabrication, fluids, cooling changes and certification work to be listed separately.
Do not confuse it with Nissan’s documented 1982 Cedric
Nissan’s Heritage Collection describes a different car: the 1982 K430 four-door hardtop Turbo Brougham. That historical model used a 1,998 cc L20E-T inline-six producing 107 kW (145 PS) at 5,600 rpm and 206 Nm at 3,200 rpm, driving through a three-speed automatic. Those figures provide period Cedric context only; they do not establish the engine, power or gearbox in the 1994 marketplace car.
The sensible buyer profile is someone who can fabricate or supervise fabrication, source obscure trim and tolerate an uncertain final budget. It is a poor choice if you need dependable transportation immediately or if the purchase price is the entire available budget.

2022 Range Rover limousine: luxury presentation with a documentation problem
What is known—and what is not
The listing was described as a 2022 Range Rover limousine and called supercharged. The available account does not identify the company that stretched it, explain how the body was reinforced, or provide mileage, maintenance records, title branding or an inspection report. Those omissions matter more on a converted vehicle than on an unmodified SUV because the conversion affects structure, braking, suspension, wiring, weight distribution, doors and emergency exits.
“Supercharged” should be verified from the vehicle identification record and engine bay, not accepted as a guarantee of a particular engine or output. A model year also does not prove when the conversion occurred. The donor vehicle may have been built in one year and modified later, and the finished limousine may carry separate certification requirements.
Questions for the converter and seller
- Who performed the stretch, and is the company still operating?
- Are there build photographs showing the donor shell before cutting, reinforcement points and final underside work?
- What engineering standard was used for structural strength, seat anchorage, glazing, door latches and emergency egress?
- Was the conversion inspected or certified by the authority that registers it in your jurisdiction?
- How were the brakes, steering, driveshaft, cooling system, air suspension and electronic stability systems recalibrated for the added length and mass?
- Does the title identify the vehicle as altered, reconstructed, limousine or another special category?
- Are there water leaks, uneven tire wear, driveline vibration, warning lights or faults in the rear climate and entertainment systems?
Arrange a lift inspection by a shop that understands both the underlying vehicle and limousine conversions. Check welds and reinforcements, driveshaft angles, brake-line routing, fuel-system protection, tire load ratings and evidence of chassis sag. Have an insurer confirm coverage in writing before committing; some policies treat converted vehicles differently from standard production models.

The reported asking figure may look like a way to obtain a late-model luxury vehicle below the cost of commissioning a conversion, but the price cannot be judged without the conversion file, title status and condition. Until those documents exist, the car is a high-value unknown rather than a verified bargain.

Competition specification
Hyundai Motorsport’s 2025 technical sheet identifies the Elantra N TCR as a front-wheel-drive race car with a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo engine. It lists 350 hp at 7,000 rpm, 450 Nm at 3,500 rpm and a six-speed sequential pneumatic paddle-shift gearbox. Competition seats, six-point HANS-compatible belts, a 100-litre fuel tank and a minimum weight of 1,265 kg including the driver are specified under TCR regulations.

Why registration is unresolved
The listing reportedly showed a VIN written on the roll cage and raised the question of whether that would permit registration. It did not answer the question. A cage marking is not, by itself, proof of a road-vehicle VIN, title or eligibility for public-road use. Race cars can lack equipment required for road registration, including compliant lighting, emissions systems, glazing, airbags, wipers, noise control and road-approved restraints.

Before considering any road use, obtain the original title or import documents, the exact VIN in the manufacturer-approved location, a bill of sale, the build sheet and the car’s competition logbook. Ask the registering authority—not a seller or forum poster—whether this exact chassis can be titled in your jurisdiction. If the answer is no or uncertain, treat it as a track-only asset and budget for transport to events.
Competition history changes the value
Request event records, crash reports, engine and gearbox hours, damper service sheets, replacement tub or panel records and the dates on belts, nets, fire systems and extinguisher bottles. A car with a documented professional rebuild can be preferable to a cheaper car with unknown impact damage. Confirm which spares, wheels, data system, rain setup and transport fixtures are included in the reported price.

Hyundai announced a separate US-market 2026 ELANTRA N TCR Edition on November 20, 2025. The company described it as a limited-production road model planned for first-quarter 2026 availability, with a six-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch transmission; pricing was to be announced with market availability. Hyundai N’s model description lists a 2.0T GDi engine, 280 PS and 40 kgfm.

That road edition is mechanically and legally distinct from the 2025 competition car. Its published road-car power figure, transmission choices and production intent cannot be transferred to the race listing. Hyundai Motor North America senior vice president Olabisi Boyle described the road model as “motorsports-derived” with additional performance parts and motorsports visuals, but that marketing description does not make a race chassis road legal.

The sources do not establish reliable ownership-cost, reliability or road-legality rankings. Any claim that one is “the best deal” would be guesswork without inspections and documents.
How to verify an online vehicle listing before paying
- Confirm the post is live. Ask the seller to send a current video showing the vehicle, today’s date and the VIN. Search for duplicate photos and mismatched descriptions.
- Match every document. Compare VINs on the title, body, registration, import paperwork and receipts. Resolve any spelling, mileage or ownership mismatch before a deposit.
- Use an independent inspection. The inspector should work for you, not the seller, and should provide photographs, fault codes, fluid checks, structural findings and a written roadworthiness opinion.
- Check legal category. Ask the relevant registration authority and insurer how an imported classic, stretched limousine or competition car is classified. Get the answer in writing.
- Make payment conditional. Use a documented bill of sale stating VIN, price, included spares, title status, lien release and refund conditions if identity or legal status differs from the advertisement.
- Plan transport. A car with no reverse gear, an uncertified limousine or a race car should be moved by suitable trailer or transporter until its road status and mechanical condition are established.
Bottom line for these three unusual finds
The Cedric offers the lowest reported entry price but comes with a confirmed transmission problem and an unfinished build. The limousine promises the most visible luxury, yet its critical conversion and title history are not documented. The Elantra has the clearest published performance specification, but that specification belongs to a competition machine whose registration remains unresolved. Treat the three prices as leads for due diligence—not as proof of availability, value or legality—and let the VIN, inspection report and registration authority determine whether any of them is actually buyable for your intended use.
