Toyota’s fastest production Supra is not the famous fourth-generation Turbo. That title belongs to the limited-run European and Japanese GR Supra A90 Final Edition, which Toyota rates at 275 km/h (171 mph). The result needs a market qualifier, though: the North American 2026 MkV Final Edition uses the regular U.S.-specification powertrain and is rated at 155 mph.

This ranking covers factory-stock, road-legal Supras and uses manufacturer claims or period-published specifications. Where an independent road test produced a different number, it is shown separately rather than mixed into the official ranking.

1. GR Supra A90 Final Edition — 275 km/h (171 mph)

The European/Japanese GR Supra A90 Final Edition is the quickest factory Supra by published top speed. Toyota Gazoo Racing quotes 275 km/h, equivalent to about 171 mph.

Its 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six produces 441 DIN horsepower and 571 Nm of torque, sent through a six-speed manual transmission. The car also receives chassis, brake, suspension and aerodynamic changes intended to make it more capable on track. Production is limited to 300 examples worldwide.

The key detail is the market. This 441-hp A90 Final Edition is not the same vehicle as the North American 2026 GR Supra MkV Final Edition. Calling every 2026 Final Edition a 171-mph Supra is inaccurate.

2. GR Supra Lightweight EVO — 270 km/h (168 mph)

The European-market GR Supra Lightweight EVO is listed at 270 km/h, or approximately 168 mph. It sits just 5 km/h below the A90 Final Edition and is the second-fastest production Supra on this list.

It uses the 3.0-liter engine and six-speed manual gearbox, but the performance work is not limited to power. Toyota gives it revised suspension and differential tuning, stronger braking hardware, altered camber settings and additional aerodynamic changes. It is a lighter, more focused version of the A90 rather than the full-output Final Edition.

3. Supra Turbo A80/MkIV — 155 mph officially, 160 mph tested

The fourth-generation A80 Supra Turbo is the Supra most often associated with extreme speed, but its factory-published number is lower than many internet claims suggest. Toyota’s official figure is 155 mph, reflecting the car’s electronic speed limiter.

A 1993 Supra Turbo tested by Car and Driver reached 160 mph, giving the MkIV a credible independent road-test result above its official limited figure. That does not make 160 mph the universal factory specification; it is a measured result from a particular test car and test method.

The frequently repeated claim that a stock MkIV was officially a 180-mph car also needs caution. Toyota discussed 180 mph as a possible speed with the limiter removed, not as the normal published top speed of the road car.

4. GR Supra 3.0/A90 — 155 mph

The standard U.S.-market GR Supra 3.0 shares a 155-mph electronically controlled top-track-speed rating with the A80 Turbo’s official figure. Toyota’s 2025 U.S. brochure lists the limit for both the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium grades.

The current American 3.0 produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. Some third-party sources describe the A90 as a roughly 160-mph car, but that usually reflects an estimate, an independent test or a different interpretation of the limiter. Toyota’s published U.S. specification is 155 mph.

5. North American 2026 GR Supra MkV Final Edition — 155 mph

The North American 2026 GR Supra MkV Final Edition does not receive the 441-hp engine used by the European/Japanese A90 Final Edition. Toyota USA lists it with the familiar U.S.-market output of 382 hp and 368 lb-ft, and published specifications put its top speed at 155 mph.

Its upgrades are primarily aimed at control rather than a higher terminal speed. The package includes revised braking, suspension, steering, chassis-rigidity, differential and aerodynamic work. North American production is limited to 1,300 units, and the 2026 model year marks the final production run of the fifth-generation GR Supra, with production scheduled to end in spring 2026.

6. Supra Turbo A70/MkIII — 153 mph in European specification

Toyota UK’s archive gives the 1989–1993 Supra Turbo A70 a 153-mph top speed in European specification. That version used a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six producing 232 bhp.

Market differences matter more with the A70 than the close ranking suggests. Road & Track lists a 1989 U.S.-specification Supra Turbo at 140 mph. The 153-mph figure therefore should be described as the European figure, not a universal rating for every MkIII Supra Turbo.

7. Celica Supra A60/MkII — 125 mph

The second-generation A60 Celica Supra reached a published 125 mph in the 1982 specification listed by Road & Track. The U.S.-market car used a 2.8-liter inline-six rated at 145 hp.

Although its top speed is modest beside later turbocharged Supras, the A60 established the formula that made the nameplate increasingly serious: a front-engine straight-six, rear-wheel drive and a long-distance GT character with growing performance ambitions.

8. Celica Supra A40/MkI — 112 mph

The original A40 Celica Supra is the slowest entry in this ranking at 112 mph. The 1979 U.S.-market model used a 2.6-liter inline-six producing 110 hp.

It was conceived more as a fast grand tourer than as a dedicated sports car. Even so, the combination of a six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive provided the foundation for the faster Celica Supra and Supra generations that followed.

Why Supra top-speed figures do not always agree

  1. Electronic limiters: A car may have enough power to continue accelerating, but its computer can stop it at a lower speed.
  2. Market specification: Engine output, gearing, tires and calibration can differ between U.S., European and Japanese cars.
  3. Claim versus test: A manufacturer’s specification is not interchangeable with a magazine’s measured result.
  4. Test conditions: Tire condition, road surface, temperature, wind, altitude and the length of the test area all affect the result.
  5. Modified cars: A tuned or engine-swapped Supra may exceed 200 mph, but it does not belong in a factory-stock ranking.

For that reason, the ranking uses the highest clearly documented factory or period-published figure for each model and identifies exceptions. The A80’s 160-mph test result is useful context, but its official 155-mph rating remains the comparable factory number.

The fastest Supra overall

On published factory figures, the answer is the European/Japanese GR Supra A90 Final Edition at 275 km/h (171 mph). The European Lightweight EVO follows at 270 km/h (168 mph). The older A80 Turbo remains highly competitive in independent testing, but its official 155-mph limit places it below the two late-production special editions.

The distinction between the two Final Editions is essential when comparing cars across markets: the European/Japanese A90 Final Edition is a 441-hp, 171-mph car, while the North American MkV Final Edition is a 382-hp, 155-mph car with its emphasis on chassis and braking upgrades.

FAQ

What is the fastest Toyota Supra ever made from the factory?

The European and Japanese GR Supra A90 Final Edition is the fastest factory-built Supra by published top speed. Toyota Gazoo Racing rates it at 275 km/h, or approximately 171 mph.

Is the 2026 Toyota Supra Final Edition a 171-mph car?

Only the European/Japanese A90 Final Edition carries the 275-km/h (171-mph) rating. The North American 2026 GR Supra MkV Final Edition uses the 382-hp U.S.-market powertrain and is published at 155 mph.

How fast is a stock MkIV Supra Turbo?

Toyota’s published factory figure is 155 mph because of the electronic limiter. Car and Driver independently recorded 160 mph from a 1993 Supra Turbo, but that is a test result rather than the official factory specification.

How fast was the original Toyota Celica Supra?

The first-generation A40 Celica Supra had a published top speed of 112 mph in the 1979 U.S.-market specification. The later A60/MkII increased that figure to 125 mph.

The Bottom Line

The GR Supra A90 Final Edition is the fastest production Supra by published top speed, at 275 km/h (171 mph), followed closely by the European Lightweight EVO at 270 km/h (168 mph). The MkIV Supra Turbo’s 160-mph independent test result is impressive, but Toyota’s official figure for the car was 155 mph. And despite the similar name, the North American 2026 MkV Final Edition is a separate 155-mph specification.
