The Chevrolet Corvette and Mitsubishi Mirage followed at 13.6 each. Those figures describe a specific historical study cohort—not a live prediction of how safe any individual Venue is today.
What “deadliest” means in this ranking
iSeeCars measured vehicles involved in crashes in which at least one occupant died, then divided that count by estimated vehicle miles traveled. On that measure, the Venue’s rate was 4.9 times the study’s overall average. This is a fatal-accident rate, not a count of how often a vehicle crashes and not a measure of deaths among drivers alone. iSeeCars’ study provides the ranking and its methodology.

These are iSeeCars figures for its study cohort, covering fatal crashes from 2017–2022. The study’s exposure estimates used data on more than 8 million vehicles from model years 2018–2022 that were on the road in 2022. Heavy-duty trucks and vans, low-volume models, and vehicles no longer in production as of model year 2024 were excluded. iSeeCars does not provide a clear publication date in the page text, so the period covered—not an assumed release year—is the useful date qualification.
Why the Venue’s result does not prove its design caused the rate
A rate from observed crashes cannot, by itself, separate vehicle design from the circumstances in which people drive. iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said the listed models “likely reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions, leading to increased crashes and fatalities.” The study discusses vehicle size and weight and notes that higher-profile SUVs may face greater rollover risk, but it does not isolate a cause for the Venue’s result.

The ranking also does not tell a particular shopper or owner what will happen to them. It compares outcomes in a defined set of data; it is not an individual driver’s forecast or a guarantee that choosing—or avoiding—one model will ensure safety.
Why IIHS identifies a different vehicle
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) measures a different outcome: driver deaths per million registered vehicle years. In its analysis of fatality data from 2018–2021, representing 2020 models and earlier vehicles with the same designs and features, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 had the highest listed rate: 205 driver deaths per million registered vehicle years. The IIHS release also reported an average of 38 across the studied 2020 and equivalent models. IIHS published those figures on July 13, 2023.

Do not compare the IIHS figure of 205 directly with iSeeCars’ 13.9. One counts driver deaths and divides by registered vehicle years; the other counts crashes with at least one occupant fatality and divides by estimated vehicle miles. Their fatality periods and model-cohort definitions also differ. IIHS says its rates adjust for driver age and gender, but not for factors such as speed or miles driven per day.
Where the Mustang fits
IIHS did find high driver-death rates among some muscle cars. Its table lists the Ford Mustang convertible at 97 driver deaths per million registered vehicle years. That is relevant context for the headline’s Mustang reference, but it does not put the Mustang first in either of these two rankings.

What these rankings can—and cannot—tell you
- They can identify elevated rates in the studied data. The Venue led iSeeCars’ fatal-accident-rate ranking, while the Mirage G4 led IIHS’s separate driver-death-rate analysis.
- They cannot establish a single cause. The rates do not isolate the effects of design, driving behavior, road conditions, speed, or exposure.
- They are not a complete safety comparison. Neither ranking alone answers which vehicle is safest overall. That requires a clearly defined comparison and separate evidence, such as crash-test results.
- They do not predict an individual outcome. A model-level rate is not a personal risk estimate. Brauer’s practical point is that an alert, focused driver traveling at a legal or prudent speed and not impaired is more likely to arrive safely, regardless of the vehicle.
