For most U.S. shoppers, the used Ford F-150 Lightning is the best place to start: it has a familiar full-size pickup layout and broad truck utility. The Rivian R1T is the stronger fit for buyers who prioritize adventure-oriented packaging and a smaller footprint. The Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV offer compelling range figures in newer used examples, while the Cybertruck and Hummer EV suit more specific preferences. The right choice depends on the particular truck’s year, trim, condition, price, and your charging and towing needs—not its nameplate alone.
How this ranking works
This is a U.S. used-truck shortlist ranked by the breadth of its appeal and the use cases each model serves, not by a head-to-head road test. Model-year and trim-specific range figures below are published estimates, not guarantees for a used vehicle. The U.S. Department of Transportation explains that “The EPA estimated range of a vehicle is calculated from laboratory testing in a controlled environment.” Actual range varies with speed, weather, load, tires, and driving conditions.

Asking prices and local availability change quickly, so a ranking cannot substitute for checking comparable listings where you live. Car and Driver’s used-truck listings give a useful view of model-year range variation, while the DOT report reproduces EPA estimates for specific 2025 configurations. Neither source establishes the range of every used example. Car and Driver’s used electric pickup rankings; U.S. Department of Transportation report (2025).

1. Ford F-150 Lightning — best all-around starting point
The Lightning is the clearest choice for shoppers who want an electric truck that keeps the familiar full-size pickup form and conventional cabin layout. Find My Electric also notes available onboard power, which can be useful at a worksite or campsite. Its broad appeal makes it the strongest first stop for ordinary truck use, though the specific trim and equipment still matter.

The DOT’s 2025 table lists 240 miles for a Standard Range XLT, 300 for a Platinum Extended Range, and 320 for a Lariat Extended Range. Those 2025 figures are specific to the named configurations and should not be treated as guarantees for earlier used trucks. Car and Driver; DOT report.
Consider the Lightning if you want a familiar full-size pickup and can find a truck whose range, battery, towing equipment, and condition fit your needs. Find My Electric describes it as a likely budget choice, but that is not proof that it is the cheapest in every local market; compare current listings rather than assuming a price advantage. Find My Electric’s 2026 used-truck guide.

3. Chevrolet Silverado EV — best range-first candidate among newer used trucks
The Silverado EV merits attention if maximizing published range is a priority and you are shopping among newer used examples. Car and Driver lists a 450-mile estimate for the 2024 model, while the DOT’s 2025 table lists 390 miles for its specified Silverado EV configuration and 492 miles for the Silverado EV Work Truck. These numbers describe different years and configurations; they are not interchangeable promises for a used Silverado. Car and Driver; DOT report.
Chevrolet’s current 2026 Silverado EV page advertises maximum available towing of 12,500 pounds and GM-estimated 74–120 miles added in 10 minutes with available 350 kW DC fast charging. Those are manufacturer claims for the 2026 lineup and depend on configuration; do not assign them to a 2024 used truck without confirming its trim-specific specifications. The Hummer EV Pickup is aimed at buyers drawn to off-road equipment and a large, imposing vehicle. Car and Driver lists a 314-mile estimate for its 2024 model. Its size, efficiency, and purchase price deserve careful consideration, so it is not the sensible default for routine commuting. Car and Driver.
What towing does to electric-truck range
Rated range is not a useful proxy for towing range. A DOT report summarizes a Car and Driver test towing a 6,100-pound camper at about 70 mph: the Hummer EV traveled approximately 140 miles, the Lightning about 100 miles, and the R1T about 110 miles in that particular test. These are results from one test under its stated conditions, not universal towing figures for every truck or trailer. DOT report (2025), summarizing the Car and Driver test.

If you tow regularly, plan around the route and charging stops you actually use. The DOT report notes that trailer charging can be difficult because many stations are parking spaces rather than pull-through bays. Check whether you can maneuver your truck and trailer at likely charging stops, and allow for the shorter distance between stops that towing may require.
What resale figures can—and cannot—tell you
iSeeCars’ 2026 resale-value analysis reports five-year value retention of 46.7% for the Ford F-150 Lightning and 45% for the GMC Sierra EV, compared with 44.6% average five-year value retention for electric trucks. The calculation analyzed more than 3 million vehicles. These figures offer a broad resale comparison, not a current used asking price, a prediction for a specific truck, or proof of future depreciation. iSeeCars, “Best Resale Value Electric Trucks for 2026”.
How to choose a used electric truck
- Set the job first. Decide whether you need a full-size bed and cabin, adventure-oriented storage, frequent towing, or primarily daily transportation. This helps narrow the choice before comparing range claims.
- Compare the exact configuration. Match the listing’s model year, trim, battery, wheels and tires, and tow equipment to the relevant range and towing specifications. A model name alone is not enough to identify its capability.
- Check charging against your routine. Consider home charging, the routes you drive, and—if you tow—whether charging stations can accommodate a trailer. A high EPA estimate cannot solve a poor charging fit.
- Evaluate the individual vehicle. Check mileage, title, condition, service records, recall completion, charging equipment, tow package, and remaining battery warranty. Request a battery-health assessment where available, and verify warranty coverage for the specific VIN.
- Compare live local listings. Compare trucks with similar year, trim, mileage, equipment, and condition. Asking prices and availability shift, so a general buying guide cannot establish what is a fair price in your market.
For context, Find My Electric identifies battery, trim, towing equipment, software, warranty, recalls, title, mileage, charging access, and launch-series status as factors that can affect used pricing and availability. Treat its ranges as general 2026 guidance rather than guaranteed values. Find My Electric, updated August 2, 2026.
