The right schedule depends on your model, year, equipment, driving and environment. For your car’s current recommendations, open Controls > Service > Maintenance; Tesla says the Maintenance Summary requires software version 2024.44.25 or later.
How to find the schedule for your Tesla
Use the in-car Maintenance Summary as the vehicle-specific reference. It lists maintenance items, records completed work and indicates when an item should be performed again. Tesla says its records persist through factory resets, but owners are responsible for keeping records accurate—particularly when work is done by an independent repairer or by the owner.
Intervals below summarize Tesla’s published guidance, not a one-size-fits-all calendar. Check the Maintenance Summary and the manual for your exact vehicle; recommendations can vary by model year, installed equipment, climate and use. Tesla’s Vehicle Maintenance guidance was accessed in 2026.
Recurring maintenance: tires and filters
Tire rotation
Tesla recommends rotating tires every 10,000 km or when the tread-depth difference reaches 1.5 mm, whichever happens first. Its Model 3 DIY guidance also gives the distance as 6,250 miles and the tread difference as 2/32 inch. Aggressive driving can speed up tire wear, so do not wait for the distance interval if the tread difference has already reached the threshold. See Tesla’s vehicle maintenance guidance and Model 3 DIY service intervals.

Cabin air filters
Tesla’s general recommendation is replacement every two years for Model 3 and Model Y, and every three years for Model S and Model X. For Model S and Model X produced from 2012 through 2020, Tesla lists a two-year interval instead. A filter interval can vary with the vehicle and environment; confirm the applicable interval in the Maintenance Summary.
HEPA and carbon filters
If fitted, Tesla recommends replacing HEPA and carbon filters every three years. This interval should not be assumed to apply to Cybertruck, for which Tesla provides separate guidance. Confirm the equipment and interval for your vehicle in the Maintenance Summary.

Brake care depends on use and winter conditions
Brake-fluid testing
Tesla recommends testing brake fluid for contamination every four years and replacing it as needed—not automatically at that interval. Towing, mountain descents or performance driving, particularly in hot and humid conditions, can mean more frequent checks are appropriate. Tesla advises that fluid levels be checked by Tesla or a professional automotive repair shop; its Model 3 manual warns owners not to top up brake fluid.
Cleaning brakes in road-salt regions
Where winter road salt is used, Tesla generally recommends brake cleaning and lubrication every year or 20,000 km. Tesla’s support guidance says this lubrication is not required for Model Y vehicles produced after February 2025. The recommendation concerns salt exposure, so it is not a universal annual task for every Tesla.

Why brake inspections still matter
Regenerative braking typically means Tesla brake pads are used less often than in a conventional braking system. That does not remove the need to check brake condition or follow guidance for the car’s climate and use. Tesla’s Model Y Owner’s Manual includes brakes among routine owner checks.
Items to replace or service only when needed
Wiper blades
Tesla’s Model 3 DIY interval list recommends replacing wiper blades every year. Tesla describes its published interval list as based on typical use and not comprehensive, so follow the Maintenance Summary for your vehicle and replace blades sooner if they no longer clear the windshield effectively.

A/C desiccant bag
Tesla says scheduled A/C desiccant-bag replacement is not generally required for Model S, Model 3, Model X or Model Y. There are historical and model-specific exceptions, including certain older vehicles without heat pumps; check Tesla’s support guidance and your Maintenance Summary rather than applying the general statement to every year and configuration.
Wheel balance and alignment
These are as-needed services. Steering-wheel vibration can indicate a need for wheel balancing; uneven tire wear or the vehicle pulling to one side can indicate a need for alignment. Tesla also recommends alignment after installing a new set of tires.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Simple checks owners can make
The Model Y Owner’s Manual recommends routine checks of:
- Tire condition and pressure
- Lights, horn, turn signals, wipers and washers
- Vehicle alerts and brake condition
- Seat belts
- Abnormal fluid deposits beneath the vehicle
These checks help identify a problem; they do not replace scheduled work or professional inspection when the car displays an alert or a component is not working properly.
Fluids and high-voltage work: know the limits
For Model 3, Tesla says battery coolant generally does not need replacement during the vehicle’s life under most circumstances. Coolant and brake-fluid levels should be checked only by Tesla or a professional automotive repair shop. Do not open or tamper with high-voltage components: Tesla says high-voltage battery service must be performed by a trained technician. See the Model 3 Owner’s Manual.
Using an independent repairer or doing work yourself
Tesla permits owners to use an independent repairer, but advises checking warranty implications if a problem occurs. If you perform maintenance yourself or use a shop outside Tesla, keep accurate records and make sure completed work is reflected in the Maintenance Summary where applicable. Follow Tesla’s DIY instructions and do not attempt work involving high-voltage components.
