That figure counted reservations, not sales or delivered vehicles. The concept was a two-seat pickup designed to accept Slate-specific additions for SUV or hatchback configurations; the reservation terms and planned features described at launch should not be assumed to remain available today.
What did the 100,000 figure count?
New Atlas reported on May 13, 2025, that Slate Auto said the Blank Slate had attracted more than 100,000 reservations in just over two weeks after launch. The report described a refundable $50 deposit at that time and cautioned that a reservation might not become a sale. Slate chief commercial officer Jeremy Snyder was quoted by New Atlas as saying, “We are genuinely humbled by America’s response to Slate’s brand launch and the launch of our truck,”. The reservation total is evidence of early interest, but it does not establish how many customers ultimately ordered, purchased, or received a vehicle.
How was the pickup supposed to become an SUV?
Start with a two-seat pickup
The launch-era concept was described as a two-seat pickup. Its modular approach centered on adding Slate-specific parts to change the vehicle’s form, rather than treating the pickup and SUV as unrelated models.

Add a five-seat SUV configuration
Electrek described a planned five-seat SUV kit and a vehicle concept with more than 100 accessories. MotorTrend reported that the SUV kit was envisioned as a flatpack and that the vehicle had removable panels. These were descriptions of the concept and its intended modular system; they do not verify that a kit or any particular accessory is currently available to buy.
The idea is appealing because one vehicle could serve different needs: an open-bed pickup in one configuration and an enclosed, more passenger-oriented form in another. But a concept description is not enough to establish the final conversion process, cost, compatibility, installation requirements, or which parts would be standard versus optional. What was announced about production and safety?
Mobility Engineering Technology reported on September 8, 2025, that Slate planned to build the truck at a 1.4-million-square-foot facility in Warsaw, Indiana, and had a late-2026 production target. That was a reported plan and target—not evidence that production has begun or that vehicles have been delivered. Mobility Engineering Technology’s September 2025 report
MotorTrend reported that Slate was crash testing configurations and targeting a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A target is not a test result: the report does not establish that the Blank Slate earned a five-star rating.

What remains unconfirmed?
The reports cited here document what Slate was announcing and planning in 2025. They do not establish the company’s current 2026 reservation terms or price, whether production has started, whether deliveries have begun, whether the SUV kit is available, or whether the vehicle has earned an NHTSA rating. Treat those as open questions rather than assuming launch-era plans have been fulfilled.
