The two figures represent separate campaign populations, not confirmed defective vehicles. Together they amount to more than 22,000 recall entries, but the campaigns may overlap, so adding them does not establish the number of unique Cybertrucks involved.
What happened with the windshield wiper motor
Failure mode and safety concern
Tesla’s June 19, 2024 filing says the wiper motor controller may stop functioning because electrical overstress damaged its gate-driver component. Tesla reported that a supplier traced the damage to a functional test that applied excessive current; a lower-current test was introduced on May 28, 2024. If the wiper fails, visibility may be reduced in some operating conditions, increasing the risk of a collision.
Repair
Tesla’s remedy is to replace the wiper motor at no charge. Tesla says the work takes approximately 30 minutes on its Cybertruck Wiper Motor Replacement support page. That is Tesla’s stated repair time, not a guarantee of total appointment time or parts availability.

What happened with the sail applique trim
Which trim is involved
The sail applique is cosmetic exterior trim along the Cybertruck’s trunk bed, attached with adhesive. It is not the stainless steel cantrail panel near the windshield and roof.
Failure mode and safety concern
Tesla’s June 19, 2024 filing says the applique or adhesive may not have been installed to specification. The trim could loosen or separate, creating a road hazard for following motorists and increasing their risk of injury or collision. Tesla said an owner might hear noise or notice the trim coming loose. The filing says quality-control changes to adhesive application began May 28, 2024.

Repair
Tesla’s stated remedy is to replace or rework the applique at no charge. The NHTSA filing does not specify a repair duration.
How to check whether your Cybertruck is affected
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN) for your Cybertruck.
- Enter it in Tesla’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup.
- Check the result for campaigns 24V-456 and 24V-457, and follow the instructions for any open recall shown for your vehicle.
The manufacturing windows in the filings describe the overall groups Tesla identified; they do not determine an individual vehicle’s recall status. Tesla says it will contact affected owners when parts are available in their region. A general campaign listing cannot establish whether a specific truck has already been repaired, so use a VIN-specific result or contact Tesla for the vehicle’s status.

Do not confuse the sail applique recall with the later cantrail recall
Tesla has a separate recall for a cantrail assembly, the stainless steel panel near the windshield and roof. Its production window extends through February 27, 2025, according to Tesla’s cantrail recall support page. That later campaign is not the sail applique trim recall, campaign 24V-457.
Why the 2024 coverage said “recalled again”
Contemporary CBS reporting described the June 2024 actions as Tesla’s fourth Cybertruck recall action since launch at that time. That is a historical count from 2024, not a current total. The headline’s “again” reflects that context; it should not be read as indicating that these two campaigns were newly announced in 2026.
