The watch at the center of Hanhart’s Steve McQueen edition is the 417 ES, a hand-wound chronograph McQueen wore personally. It is not the Heuer Monaco associated with his on-screen appearance in Le Mans. Hanhart’s Limited Edition No. 1 reproduces details tied to McQueen and the original 417 ES, with 300 watches reported for the release.
Which watch did Steve McQueen wear?
McQueen wore an original-generation Hanhart 417 ES from the 1950s, according to contemporary reports from Gear Patrol and Fratello. The 417 ES was a hand-wound chronograph. The Heuer Monaco is a separate watch, best known for its appearance on McQueen in the 1971 racing film Le Mans.
“Official reproduction” here means a Hanhart commemorative edition built around the 417 ES and McQueen’s documented personal connection to it. Fratello reports that his grandchildren Chase and Madison approved use of his signature and took part in the commemorative card; that account comes from contemporary reporting rather than an official statement included in the available coverage.
What is distinctive about Limited Edition No. 1?
The edition retains the 417 ES’s functional identity as a flyback chronograph and adds commemorative details. Its dial has yellow-tinted Super-LumiNova, and a reproduction of McQueen’s signature—reportedly taken from his 1964 racing license—appears on the watch. The Bund-style cuff strap is recreated in Shell Cordovan leather from Italian tannery Comipel, as reported by Fratello.

The presentation set also includes a booklet, a numbered plaque and red nail polish, a nod to the red pusher associated with Hanhart’s chronographs. These touches distinguish the commemorative package from the regular-production Heritage Flyback.

These specifications are reported by Gear Patrol and Fratello in 2026. The flyback function is especially relevant to a racing chronograph: it lets the wearer begin timing a new interval without stopping, resetting, and restarting through separate operations.

How much does it cost, and how limited is it?
Fratello reported a run of 300 watches and a price of €2,890 including VAT. Gear Patrol reported a U.S. price of $3,570 and said Hanhart’s North American distributor, WatchBuys, sells the edition exclusively in the United States. Those are publication-time reports from 2026, not guarantees of current stock or prices in every market. Check Hanhart or an authorized regional seller for current availability and pricing.

Gear Patrol describes the commemorative watch as nearly identical to the regular Heritage Flyback, but the available reports do not provide a complete current side-by-side specification or the regular model’s price. The clearest reported differences are the McQueen signature, yellow-tinted luminous material, Shell Cordovan cuff strap and commemorative presentation set, alongside the 300-piece limit.
